Title: 1943 AUST PENNY DOT ERROR?
Post by: aussie1984 on November 01, 2014, 10:32:28 AM
I have this penny I found and noticed an extra dot at the end of AUSTRALIA under the A is this an error?
I have used a loupe and it is an extra dot but is it common?

I can't find any reference to it in Fred Levers' book, but judging by the condition, (just my personal opinion) is that it's unlikely to be of any great value.

It's possibly a spot of corrosion like the one that's broken through in the middle of the base of the 'R'.

Thanks I thought the same but I used a loupe there is no broken metal around the dot.

most certainly didn't mean to be rude, especially to a new member

just saying how I saw it as this issue can be a very beautiful looking coin (being another of my favourite years) but all in all the year is  common enough for quality examples to be readily found and this one is definitely not that

and it looks as if it has been sitting in the bottom of the coin bin barrel

you don't have to take my opinion but it is a coin forum and I assumed you were asking for opinions ... sorry to offend

I am afraid that this forum is getting far too many odd balls for my liking
i'm outta here

I wouldn't be too stressed about it RG ...... and I don't think you were rude at all. Honest yes, rude no.

If people ask for opinions then what else do they expect other than opinions?
