I was shown some pics of the new $1 coin set from RAM.Due out this year
26 yes 26 $1 25mm coloured coins with each letter of the alphabet.
Each one in a card like the bugs series but I believe will be released all at once.
Each coin has a different background with a large capitol letter in the foreground.
Was also informed that the baby sets will be supplied without the normal $1 coin and a alphabet dollar of your choice will have to be ordered from the mint or dealer to place in the set, included in the price of the set.( I think this is for the proof baby set) as the coin will be in a capsule.
Don't have any more details or prices.
You mean this?

Yup. Each letter is an animal. L Lyrebird, etc. There's a currency determination covering the second half of the alphabet. Can't find the first half.
WTF......???
goovy
so,you could buy your name in coins and ...... pop them in a folder that you never look at
I'll be buying an A for Ariana - my grandie
and a G for Grr-nannie which is what she calls me
Quote from: 'interest' pid='61079' dateline='1413637079'WTF......???
so what you really mean is
W for wombat
T for tree or ty-ran-a-saw-yus - or Tick - or Tinkerbell
and F for fly (not bat)
ha ha
Nice pic.
I hope they are not up around $15 a coin. It's still going to be a real expensive complete set to get.$300+
I would expect some of the coins to be a lower mintage like U,X etc which could be hard to get in the future like some of the commonwealth games coins.
Maybe you have to guess how many things are on the coin beginning with F.
Let's see, Flying Fox, or could it be Fruit Bat, then Fly, Fruit, Footprint...
Anyone see any others?
Trout's going to love this set. :)

Cant see them being less then $15.00 x 26 = $390.00 plus delivery
Probably have some sort of deal where you pay up front & they will send coins when they press them.
Yuk I think it's about to say bye bye RAM
I might have to save up and buy a vowel.
I have known about this stuff for ages but had no idea why the RAM went with, it now it makes sense, so if they are going into baby sets, I guess they wont be needing the dot and kangaroo design $1 {they keep that design for 3 years then change it} so you will be seeing the a-z coins for 3 years then, they also intend to do silvers for these too, wonder if they will be the ones for proof sets, and the ali-brz will be the individual purchase ones, or a bit of both. glad I wont be getting a complete set of these it would hurt the budget a lot, of course I would look at the k one, but if I don't like the product in hand, im going to walk away, interesting concept from the mint, I wonder if it will be a hit or miss, only time will tell.

Didn't you know Umberto and Xeraphina are becoming way more popular. You could even call your child Umbrella or Xylol.
Unbloodybelievable :dash1::dash1::dash1:
This is just plain ridicules , RAM seems to be pumping more crap out than the Perth Mint:dodgy:
I wonder if RAM has been bought out by the Franklin mint, Its starting to look that way.
That's it for Me, I'm throwing the towel in on Dollar coins MY set ends as of now.
My God! You can go bankrupt collecting $1 coins.......

My impression is that these sets are likely a losing proposition is it not?
E.g. the Commwealth Games coins. For the shooting coin (one of the lowest mintages), Bluesheet values are $2, $6, $16, $60 for MS64, MS65, MS66 and MS67. But at the time retail was $4.95. I guess it depends on what MS you can achieve?
I quite like the 50c Australia At War coins. But the thought of paying $10 for a coin now that I could pick up for less in the future is putting me off. My logic wrong?

I saw the footprints too and wondered about F's
and the plant with fruit but I couldn't figure out what it was but yep - fruit tree fits with the FFFfff's
I fink it's goanna be fun!

The risk is not being able to get the complete set of war coins or these in the future and have to pay heaps for missing coins. eg gymnastics coin.
I find blue sheet values change to much.Values can go up and down by 50% in a matter of weeks. I guess this is linked to the amount of coins in pegs data base more than the value of all the coins (slabbed and raw)
Details are out in the new mint issue
$15ea for the al/br
$50ea for the silver proof versions.
Personalized Proof baby set $125 with a AL/BR version coin of your choice to place in the set.
Standard proof and Unc baby sets also available which have the MOR $1 coin in them.
Dealers will get the Anzac press $1 AL and M counterstruck coins allocation.
Thank goodness I don't have to buy a baby mint set to get each of the letter coins. Right now I don't even know if I'll stretch to the $15 x 26, it's awfully harsh.
edit: awwww they make it easy, you can spend $351.10 and just get all of them at once:dodgy:
That's 26x $50 = $1300
26x $15 = $390
Them we have yet again another Ethel Pedley coin, Proof MOR , Standard MOR.
That's without the year of the Goat and whatever else they dream up to put all the various countersamps/Mintmarks on for the ANDA Shows.
Then you have to add the postage etc
Probably will work out costing a small fortune and I wont be able to view/pick out the best coins either.
NO thanks, I can buy some rather nice Proclamation coins or some REAL numismatic Coins with that sort of money.
This year was bad enough just to get the different coins, I am buggered if I am going through all that again.
The number of different 25mm coins has been escalating over the last few years to a point where I cannot truly be bothered with them any more; The FUN has gone out if it for me and it is becoming a real pain in the rear end and simply a chore now to collect these.
I'M OUT :P
I am seriously considering on selling up ALL my Decimal collections and concentrating on truly interesting and historic coins rather than try to keep up with the plethora of $1 and 50 cent coins The Mint is Churning out lately.
notice the baby proof set has a different 50 cent coin to the normal proof set
So the proof set is $100 and mint set $25. Sydney ANDA coin show prices are not discounted. No bargain there.
Quite like the new 50c in Centenary Coin program though.

All the other Silver 25mm Coins are minted deep cameo proof, I wonder why these new ones aren't .
Maybe they are going to pad print these as well as the ali bronze coins ?

I intend to keep all my coins that were minted for circulation and sell the rest.
I wonder if the market can handle a few hundred different 25mm dollar coins all at once

My thoughts exactly. If you start collecting NCLT, just where do you stop?
These will be a flop whoever dreamt this up in RAM marketing needs a slap
I have long help the opinion that the Perth dollar coins were better in most facets then the RAM dollar coins, the frosted finish, plus the images always seemed to be clearer & sharper. The most compelling difference was the size & the themes used.
Now with the RAM A-Z alphabet kit coins it looks like they are using the same frosted style & finish as the Perth dollar coins just slightly smaller .
So now is the only difference between the two mints the size of their dollar coins.
Is that really a difference & have they just become the same, ?
Just my late night thoughts & opinion.
If the RAM had only made them a slightly different size then we wouldn't be having this discussion or concern I don't think.

Absolutely spot on.
Which of course is why they did this. But it may backfire with unintended consequences.

Because then they wouldn't be 'real' coins and could be safely ignored as the granny bait they are.
but I thought these are going to be the same size as a 1 dollar coin?
Quote from: 'serial' pid='61183' dateline='1413859133'but I thought these are going to be the same size as a 1 dollar coin?
That's exactly the problem, you see?
Its why Trout threw a hissy fit and walked away.
If they are the same as circulation dollars then they need to be in the complete collection. If they were different they could be overlooked (yes as grannybait). I guess everyone has their own collecting criteria and mine stipulates 25mm 9g al br unc.
Quotemine stipulates 25mm 9g al br unc.
Me too, These have slipped under the Radar and I am certain that RAM are aware of the fact that most serious collectors don't value the oversize coins as much as the 25mm ones.
So yes I am having a "Hissy Fit" and have spat the dummy so far I am unable to even find it now
My Dollar Days are over and it's time for me to move on to other areas of Numismatics.
I don't intend to throw the baby out with the Bath water, I'm keeping my numismatic interests alive by getting some nice clean water and Changing direction in what I collect from now on :good:
Nothing like a change of interest to spark up the "Wow" factor in collecting :)
As far as I am concerned, the alphabet coins are coloured, 25mm diameter alum-br legal tender coins and thus have to be in ones collection.
All the coloured coins issued in cards remain in the cards and I do not remove them into the UNC collection.
So, a little under $400.00 for the set for me is a must.
Lets see how long it takes before trout owns up that he has bought a set..........
I gave up collecting these pad print coloured $1 coins years ago
Cost is a real problem for anyone who was once a keen collector of RAM coins
If these are coloured $1 coins the pressure's off. I made a point of not collecting coloured dollars after the AIR series. My plan is to stay committed to al br up to and including the 50th anniversary of decimalisation. After that it is strictly counter stamped dollars only.
Of the two kinds, Silver & ali bronze,
the ali bronze look the better of the two.
Just my opinion.
Quiet simply RAM have made the same mistake as AP for collectors
Killed the goose that laid the Golden Egg

$351 and Free postage I couldn't resist :dash1:

Now, how many of us will go ahead and get the Silver Set of these coins at $50 each I think?
I am about to cancel m y order for them because they are not Proof Issue.

Not Me Mate, the silver coins look like Crap, even with the discount they are garbage in my eyes.
$50 for a virtually bullion coin at 9g when silver is at about $16 per Oz :dodgy:
My silver alphabet coin order was cancelled this day.
