I just checked our monthly invoice from ebay and they were kind enough to pop an overall fees advice
"your fees as percentage of your sales is 16.56%"
jeepers between the store fees, the postage fees and the paypal fees and they are up there with the auction houses now!
*****happy for mods to move my thread to the right section***
Looks like you are working for eBay, Paypal and the post office Mate :dash1:
This factors in your monthly fee too. Its a % of all sales. Maybe you sold less value items in that month so its showing higher than usual. For example sell something high value with a capped fvf will drop that % right down.
Our fees were shown as 10.47% of total sales. We don't have many listings so only pay insertion fees on about 5, or so, listings each month.
We always ignore the "400 free listings" offers but, if you have a lot of items to list that can save you $1.50 minimum per listing.
It's becoming a rip off. As the seller you do all the work. Ebay simply provides some blank forms to fill out. I am increasingly looking for opportunities to avoid ebay fees so I think ebay are not doing themselves any favours by making the fees so prohibitive/uncompetitive.
Numisbid seems like the best option for selling NGC/PCGS graded coins.
10% off the fall of the hammer price is all it costs and He and AC do all the work taking photo's, Listing, Collecting the cash, running the auction and best of all taking care of that pesky postage.
I have done a comparison using Numisbid and eBay with 99 cent start auctions and Numisbid blows eBay out of the water as far as ease of use AND prices realised .
I spat it with numisbid a while back because in my naivety I assumed that my coins would make the estimate and they didn't on most occasions and embarked on a campaign to sell on eBay and achieve a better result, Stupid Stupid Boy
I have lost hundreds if not thousands by doing this :dash1:
So if Walter will forgive be for being a stupid, cranky old Fart I will be dropping my coins off at Numisbid and sip on a quiet Beer whilst he and AC do ALL the work and sell my coins for me :yahoo:
I have heard about most of the auction houses and ebay raising their prices and I view it as a bit unfair. I mean you own the item and you are selling it and they somehow seem to justify 30-40% premiums for Auctions and 10%+ on ebay so either they are raking in a ton of profit or just plain inefficent. In terms of selling graded coins selling with Walter is the best way and very cheap
haha sending more work my way mate, last week took it out of me, I love doing most of the photography now and all the postage, but labelling and sorting all the coins for auction did my head in, haha Walter has never been so organised me thinks ;)
of course Walter will except more coins to sell that's his job, everyone is welcome :)
I have learnt from mailing coins out and printing invoices that some coins can sell cheap and others are money, Walter says he doesn't think about each coin as a sale, he think about the total auction, he says it all evens out, he just enjoys what he does and provides a nice place for it.
I don't collect graded coins, but I have been learning that everything seems to be popular in its own way, of course the higher the grade the more money it will attract, and some coins seem to be more plentiful than others, haha the other day I said to Walter must be worth it to pull apart proof sets, cos even I can do a quick calculation in my head, I seen some 2013 coins go out and you can easily double you money on that with 1 coin ;), we currently don't have anymore for sale atm, but yeah I thought that was cool, I wonder if that was because its a new proof set to be released, or the factor of the PR70 top grade, ,, maybe its a population thing - how many coins were graded in top grade?? price would prob go down a little after 2015 set gets released,, as I guess attention would change to that, to which I recon you would jump on that bandwagon *haha in no way am I capable of giving advice with buying and selling :p
Walters auctions are very much the standard for graded coins. It will probably boom even more when the Australian market really catches on to TPG's and those dealers opposed to them are proven wrong.
AC it's good that you don't collect the slabbed coins otherwise you'd be spending all your hard earned pay on them,
when I worked as a barmaid the one big plus that I always had with the publicans was that I didn't drink - they all said that they don't have to worry about the stock with barmaids like myself ha ha
Hi, As some of you may know, http://oldcoinchest.com/ website offers sellers to open a store. Low 5% fee on the sale price (postage excluded) and no listing fees. there is no action set up yet but is good for buy it now items. Its fairly new and will take time but the more and more that decide to use it the better it will become. I guess one good thing is that sellers have to know a bit about numismatics to list items. I know how to list the coins quickly but not hard to learn and once you navigate around a bit and it can be quite quick.
Looks ok to me
Thanks runaway. It will only get better, even if you don't want to sell it can be used to catalogue a collection and will always be updated, you don't have to buy a cd or program every year. its free to do so
looks nice
you might like to add something to that RAM official image - something like - click to go to the RAM as it looks sort of official in your webpage - as if you are a part of the Australian government .. not sure if I am explaining myself right
Got ya robbiegal, (e.g. "Sponsored links" ). Thanks
Well done Oldcoinchest you don't need any advice :)
