Title: Toned Decimals
Post by: trout on October 03, 2014, 09:21:26 AM
I bought a roll of these and one of the end coins is quite well toned.
I find it unusual to see toning on decimal Cu/Nickel coins, The Captain Cook specimen coins in the red boxes are found toned but to me this is unusual.
Anyone else have any toned Cu/Nickel coins ?

The Obverse is normal

That 20c is an killer. Kept in a velvet case or a envelope provided by the mint during it's time I suppose? They tend to cause spectacular toning like this.

not sure if I have made any dramatic improvement - I think that I did take the pics above with the new Nikon but I was just trying out the camera for the first time
but here goes, I did 'sharpen' adjustments so not sure if I made the pics worse or not! but they do have the colours that the camera has captured when I look at them but they are brighter/whiter looking - like proofs  in the hand
anyways they are cupro-nickle
20c + the 5 c from one of my 1966 sets

these two aren't curpo-nickel but they are decimal and probably both came from the ends of the same roll

Great images RG :good:
Those blue boxes didn't help to preserve the 1966 Sets one iota .
They are a better option than the crappy plastic cases the pre decimal proofs came in but the hard cases that they went to after this mintage are far better.

true but my coin dealer reckons that they can become the toned beauties of the future as well
