Ok I was wondering what are the better coin shows or fairs to go to around the traps because it sounds like Petersham is one of the better one's so hope to make it next year but want to know what one's so I can try and organise my finances and accommodation, thanks for any assistance :hi:
Upcoming ANDA Sydney show worth going? I live in Sydney so I plan to go.
http://anda.com.au/ANDASydneyOct2014.pdf (http://anda.com.au/ANDASydneyOct2014.pdf)
This would be my first.
I hope to be there and be dragging Belly along behind me kicking and screaming so hope to see you there and Rob, Eric, duggee and a few other members should be there as well so be good to catch up :)
I vote for any coin show. Get to know the dealers you like and if they're there, then go.
We (The Purple Penny) had a table at a postcard fair earlier this year, it was postcards and stamps and coins. It was rubbish, no people, no sales, waste of time.
Then we went (visited) to a rock and mineral show a few weeks ago at a school gym out in the burbs and the turnout was amazing. Must be many more people interested in rocks. There's a gun show here in Adelaide and one coin dealer visits from interstate -it's worth going to just for that.
What show please PP so I can suss it out, cheer mate :good:
Which one? Mick Vort-Ronald was at the rock show but not with banknotes :P The Gun show (http://www.tarlingsevents.com.au/te/arms) is on at the Greyhound track.
:yahoo: the gun the gun but won't make it this year but next year you never know what can happen, thanks mate :thank_you:
Trout would like some of those swords but he's not the only one :drooling:
The Sydney one is back in the Lower Town Hall which had so much more atmosphere then Randwick,
although Randwick had plenty of room & better lighting it seamed a little sterile, the Lower Town Hall you could smell the money there,
But parking is as real bugger. YING & the YANG
QuoteTrout would like some of those swords but he's not the only one
Nothing wrong with a bit of beautifully crafted carbon steel
See this is what's annoying about here ATM, over 80 bloody lookers and only a few could be bothered to actually help, very sad but thanks to the ones that did :thank_you: It's such a nice caring world these days :mocking: the space alien are just gonna love us :winkextra:
People like me that haven't really been to any show I can understand but there's so many that have so I really don't know why I bother any more and especially why I help anyone at all except for the simple fact that it makes me happy so to hell with it all :(
Well I'll tell you's that quite a few will tell you off screen that ANDA are shite and not worth the trouble and brissie was good for my first time but I could see what they mean as anda don't keep a check on their members and being in anda doesn't mean a cracker about honesty as I think if you pay anyone enough money I bet we are all FANTASTIC people, sort of like the heart tick of approval :dodgy:
Only one I have ever been to is Newcastle Stamp & Coin Fair (http://www.philas.org.au/newcastle-fair.html)
Not a very big event but plenty of browsing.
I can't comment on how it compares with others until I ever get the chance to sample some others.
Thanks Jeff, I know there's a lot like us that are in the bush so it's hard to get to these events but I thought a few from the capital cities might have commented but what ever, I'll come see you and we can have our own coin show :winkextra: :friends:
I used to go to the Brissy ANDA, but haven't been for a few years now. I only really went for the 'B' MM Dollars, but I've given up collecting any/all NCLT and they fit that bill so I figure I'm saving money. :good:
hey A J , sorry I cant help mate as I have only been to the one that you went to when you were up here and I have not even been to that one now for about 6 years , so I am not much help to you , sorry about that .. ,, kel ,,
it is fairly obvious to me AJ that not a lot of us get to very many coin shows
maybe the dealers do but otherwise most of us just go local
so it's no big deal really
I only go to the local fair here - 2 dealers tables and that is good enough for the likes of myself
I do go the local auction and that is worth going to - to view and then to buy
orange coins and stamps has an auction + coin show a few times a year and it might not be that far from you
the CAB always has listing of local shows/clubs that are on around the country
no use getting stroppy with us all if we aren't posting madly
http://www.philas.org.au/orange/
here is an events calendar link
http://www.philas.org.au/events.html
Thanks RG, yeah not far at all
Thanks for the link, I'll have to try the coffs one again and hope they are operating.
coffs is closer for sure!!
This is nearly off topic, but pretty close so here goes. A few years back while visiting my Daughter in Canberra, my Wife and I went along to a Edlins auction. Boy, it was around the time of the GFC, there were about six bidders in the room and the mood certainly matched the occasion. I've been to happier funerals, we only stayed a few minutes. OK, that's enough knocking of Edlins auctions, I'm sure the atmosphere is much more positive these days.
hasn't changed a great deal
but I'm not complaining, takes me 20 minutes to get there, park and take a pew
I only get cranky when mr pacific rim coins is there blowing me out of the water as we both seem to like the same coins (or they are his lots - one of the two!! ha ha)
I know who you mean, have seen him in action a few times at other auctions. It's like, up goes the hand and there it stays.
I seen him at brissie anda so I know who to keep an eye out for, :winkextra: I'll be glad when I finally get to see one as I've never been to an auction either so trying to work out the best spots for the next few years so I can get organised because it takes me forever to save these days and would do a lot better if I could stop buying bloody proofs but they are just too nice :drooling: Bloody belly :friends:
yeah AJ
if you get some good auction lots you can send them off to be slabbed and maybe save $$$ --- not always though
Quote from: 'autocoupler' pid='59642' dateline='1411170393'I know who you mean, have seen him in action a few times at other auctions. It's like, up goes the hand and there it stays.
absolutely!!!
Thanks RG, being in the middle of nowhere doesn't make it easy with so much travel and trying to organise accommodation but I finally got to brissie after 3 years so it takes a while but I get there
there are a few things that go on in the goldcoast/tweed heads region
you just have to maybe know someone who knows where things go on
there is a bloke who comes down regularly to the auction here and he sells at some regular markets around the gold coast area and does very well
he buys good stock too .. I will ask him next time I see him about where he sells
i'd think that there is more up your way than down here
i think that Ballina & Coffs areas have a coin shops or clubs or local dealers too
Honestly RG there isn't much around up here mate :( yes you have online coins in lismore and another bloke in ballina (haven't been there yet) but not much until southport sorry as most on the goldcoast are pretty ordinary to say the least and a lot of the numbers you find for places in coffs are shut down or the number is now residential and beps is probably the nearest coin club and it's 2 1/2 hour night drive so not really keen on that so that why this place is my coin club and I can come here where ever I like :friends:
great idea A J .
Hi AJ,
The JeffH coin club (one member) invites the AJ coin club the sign up for reciprocal membership rights. That way we both have a 100% increase in membership and still no problem obtaining a 50% quorum for meetings!
Gee thank you very much Jeff (now two members) that sound sweet mate so I cordially accept your very kind invitation and return the favour and invite you, first rule..there are no rules  that way there won't be any fights over who'll be el presidente :wavemulticolor: We'll have to decide if it's my place or yours for our first annual general meeting and the pie drive, gee there's a lot to work out :scratch_one-s_head:

Mudgee Coin, Note and Stamp Fair (http://club.philas.org.au/mudgee/fair.php)
Mudgee is well worth a weekend visit if you are from Sydney. Plenty of good things to do (not just the Coin Fair) -a vineyard tour, some high class restaurants and come out to Gulgong (only 29km away), visit me or check out the excellent museum and the Henry Lawson Centre.
Mudgee (http://www.visitnsw.com/visitor-information-centres/mudgee-visitor-information-centre) Gulgong (http://www.gulgong.net/)
Seriously the coin fair would not be your sole reason for a visit but the area is well worth a visit anyway and why not make your visit coincide with the coin fair?
Well advertised Jeff. :ok:
Yes I think he should be on commission :)

cough cough
just did a google maps
you are out in the sticks!!
and what's wrong with that RG?? you got something against people from the bush  :mocking:
The Numismatic Society of South Australia is running a coin, banknote, and collectable fair in Adelaide on the first weekend in December. It'll be the biggest coin event in the city since the ANDA fair here several years ago. A number of interstate dealers are coming and will have multiple tables. Admissions is free! Read more here (http://www.australian-coins.com/coin-news/nssa-coin-banknote-stamp-collectable-expo-adelaide/).
Quoteyou are out in the sticks!!
I have been to Canberra several times -even was there once on Christmas Day and it snowed -really, I have the photos to prove it (if I could find them -Fulvio syndrome I believe that is called).
We came here in 1982, for a job, intending to stay, maybe, four or five years -most likely our next move will just be to a small plot on the outskirts of town.

I have been OS twice this year so can't afford a trip to Adelaide now. I have been there once, for a work conference, and was most impressed with the city. On the Sunday before the conference I spent about 5 hours just walking around -most of the other participants who had already arrived were propping up the bar.
I intend to return and a numismatic event sounds like a good excuse (but later).
awww
yes we came to canberra for 'short term' just needed the work as the hubby lost his job in NQ
we fell in love with the winter weather and the lifestyle here
the sons also love living here
3 hours to sydney 8 hours to melbourne
good spot
and we have been lucky with continuous work for the past 17 years
we went through Dubbo when myself and the boys came down here
the hubby was working on the quarantine & importation of the white rhino at the time so it was nice to see the famous white rhino at the zoo (and the Parkes satellite dish) - i see you are near Dubbo
the heat wave made me freak out and think what the hell am i moving down this way for?
i was trying to get away from NQLD heat!!
guess it's Australia and the heat is everywhere in summertime
Quote from: 'JeffH' pid='96363' dateline='1472632934'can't afford a trip to Adelaide now.
Yeah, but Mark's offering us all his backyard to pitch tents in, isn't he? So very hospitable, those South Australians...

Macquarie Island is technically Australia... not too many heatwaves there... ;)
In short, I believe any show that one can get too is a good show to get too.

hey AJ
i vowed many years ago that I would only live in a town that is big enough for a Kmart
I was over only having the visiting RFDS and getting friends to bring back stores from the big smoke when they did trips
i like my luxuries now - electricity, running water, close medical facilities and the Royal Australian Mint (even though the latter keeps me poor)
Gee that's so nice of you Mark :friends:
We have Kmart, just have to drive 260km return trip but it's no big deal as I had to do that to see my GP when I was on compo because it's so hard to see them here and most of the time it's a six week wait or longer and workcover want their forms every four weeks or they stop your payments and canberra is just way to cold for me now being temperature sensitive :( There are good and bad things about everywhere :good:
Quotei like my luxuries now
How about top shelf wines? Mudgee abounds with them.
Quote from: 'JeffH' pid='96389' dateline='1472636547'Mudgee abounds with them.
I always thought a Mudgee was a small bird who downed too many fermented grapes and faceplanted in a mudhole.
#SeemsLegit! ;)
perth shows are normally ok , reasonable crowds
