And the friendly folks of the NAV and Melbourne Numismatic society will be manning the information tables on the Friday and I'll be there on the Saturday so pop by and say Hi! Personally I think it's crazy having it at this location on a weekday and I think they'll realise that when the numbers come back.
I am only hoping that the RAM's Portable Press will be there.

Why is it that ppl don't want to attend a coin show just because there isn't a portable press grannybait machine there ?
The ONLY coin show I have ever attended was in Perth a couple of years ago and I ended up getting the good people at Sterling Currency to get my stamped coins for me anyway.
I was on Night shift doing a Mill reline at a cement mill south of Perth at the time and I was pretty Knackered but I had a fantastic time just looking at various coins that the dealers had on display and quite frankly couldn't be bothered queuing up with the other "Lemmings" for the press stuff.
I only took $600 in cash with me and came out broke (I wish I took more) but I did pick up some nice coins and had a most enjoyable day :)
I Do envy you Mob that can attend heaps of shows and auctions But I also enjoy living way out of town with peace and privacy as a given.
Another venue change! Sigh!
I'll see closer to the date if I can make to ANDA otherwise I'll hopefully catch up with everyone at the RMS.

The clubs are given free (?) tables for the CLUB membership drive and not to promote unvetted ancillary clubs/forums. This forum promotes a lot of other businesses and the ANDA guys who pay - ? what it is it $5,000 a table , wouldn't be happy Janet

The Numismatic Association of Victoria (and other clubs) main role is to promote the hobby. If someone prepared a flyer for this forum we would be more than willing to promote it as well as any other on-line forum. Educated collectors make good customers and ANDA knows this :-)

I just went to your association home page and swatted up
so is your table at the entrance of the show?
A number of Victorian clubs, including the NAV, Melbourne Numismatic Society and the IBNS (Melbourne) will be manning the information table, which is usually the first one as you come in. We're the ones that put on the displays and are there to answer queries from the public. We usually man the ticket booth too, but this year ANDA are managing that themselves.

Car decided it didn't really need an exhaust yesterday. So off it went for surgery. And just before closing time, they delivered the new exhaust... and it was the wrong one! By the time it was all done today, it was way too late to even think about heading in, so looks like Saturday only.
Hope you lot left me something nice to drool over. Though with the cost of repairs, there goes the budget for the next few months. ;)

In other news, and this is painful...
Just got off the phone with an extremely depressed Goldy.
When he got home and unpacked, he discovered his slabbed mule is missing. He has no idea where it was when he last saw it, or when. He does have the number recorded naturally, but is far too angry to trust himself on the computer right now.
I've asked for a number and/or pics to be emailed for me to print out and take with me tomorrow. If anyone gets there at opening time (I'm supposed to be there after lunch, but might get there earlier), its worth checking with the girl on the security desk to see if its been handed in.
$3,000 is an awful lot to pay for the priviledge of going to an ANDA show, eh? I sincerely hope this coin turns up, and I really really hope its just been misplaced and not misappropriated.
Since Goldie took a slabbed Mule to "Show and Tell" it would have been his best.

introducing a 1977 jubilee with a coat of arms on the other side, the story was it was purchased as a unique item, but a few months later another one turned up for auction then the police confiscated it. so this is the only one in private hands

Slightly misleading. My visit to the ANDA Show was that I had spent $2250.00 on coins plus the loss of the MULE at a conservative value of $500.00.

AC, the RAM told me 3,500 were struck, and said it in a way that suggested that was the total portable press mintage. When I pointed out there is no limit on what gets struck at the Royal Show, he grudgingly acknowledged that was correct and the real mintage could be anything.
Goldy, apologies for screwing up the value. Guess I was in too much shock for your words to properly sink in.
In other news, the highlight for me in the awards presentations was a young lady who was a first-time exhibitor taking out a second place with her Russian banknotes (the ones right down the end of the tables). She asked my opinion earlier in the day, and I told her my only criticism is she should have used a larger font for us blind old bastards. ;) I've no doubt Splock will be posting a full list of the winners, so I won't steal his thunder.. but I have piccies. ;)

All I ask is that all persons that came into contact will me, just before the group photo was taken at the ANDA Show, please, please, please go through all your pockets, bags, purses etc to see if the my missing MULE has accidently been placed in one of those places.

Hi Goldie, I checked my bag / pockets but no go. I can't recall seeing the coin myself, I know I had a flick through your album. I thought I recalled seeing some coins in the blue PCGS box, but those were the coins in there before you got the box.

I did get a few more things, but haven't took pics yet, a threepence error hehe, and a gift from my friends at coin club, that now have changed there name, also they had the lovely Elise Martinson with them at there table "she is a coin designer - bush babies, was the series I collected, but she has done many more, plus I had her sign my stuff in the previous years :)" its nice when business remember you, and I adore them xx

I bought some B counterstamp
Voyage to Terra Australis coins at both the Brisbane ANDA show and the Exhibition. Both are identical but $10 ea at the former and $5 ea at the latter.
At the exhibition, staff advised that there weren't limited to the advertised 7500 mintage. They just keep stamping until the show finishes and that's when the mintage will end.

I was away during ANDA so had to con my son into going along and getting some for me. His comment was "There are some really weird people at those shows". Wifey dictated my course at the Ekka but I managed to get a few minutes at the RAM stand.

the first time we went to a coin show we both commented on the various odd balls that were there as well!!
now we are the odd balls!! ha ha
Seems a lot of forum members were there independently, eh? Now you see why we need shirts, hats, badges or whatever?
Not a bad idea Fulvio, I think a lanyard would work or at least a badge. I have been pretty busy lately but I'll see what I can do.
what about a tough sticker on our foreheads and colour our hair bright pink and maybe even a mohawk so we're easy to spot..just a thought :)
I wore a CCF badge a few years back to a ANDA show, no one even seen it or cared
then when they had the special pre launch of the coin Australian Megafauna Perth Mint, I got a media pass, and wore it all day, I think two dealers asked what that was from
its a case of been there done that, and there's nothing in it for me
The idea was more for us to find each other whilst roaming the floor.
Having said that you can usually find me or AC with a camera snapping away at everything :)
Maybe designate a meeting point where members could check in from time to time.

I would guess that there are areas common to every show such as a place where people can pause for a while in their activities. The location doesn't have to have a specific designation. It could be something like 'just inside the door to the right' or 'to the left of the registration desk'.
OK one and all, I have just got home form the Melbourne Show where the RAM had it's PORTABLE PRESS in operation at a cost of $5.00 per coin for a "M" Counterstamp Terra Australia.
I have fulfilled previously asked orders that were to be filled at the ANDA Show but I postponed the getting of the coins to this show. The wait was justified. Coins from the ANDA Show were $10.00 each, Melbourne Show coins only $5.00.
So, If others wish to order coins from the Melbourne Show, please PM with your requirements but be warned/advised, I shall have to pass on the admission fee, ($20.00) to be split between the coins ordered. Postage will remain the same at $6.00 for registered post.
Last day of the show for coins will be 30 Sep 2014 so orders will close Monday, 29 Sep 2014.
