Post by: purplepennyhunter on June 15, 2014, 06:45:35 PM
This is the worst looking Foy Bag (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Melbourne-Centenary-Florin-FOY-GIBSON-bag-VERY-RARE-to-Find-/271522901378?pt=AU_Coins2&hash=item3f3806ad82&_uhb=1) I've ever seen!

"Postage will be in a very hardy cover, several layers of wrapping, in a bubble pack to ensure safe delivery."

Don't think that will help :laugh2:

Why, it is no better looking than a really bad circulating coin.

Nuttin wrong with it that a good ironing wouldn't fix.

I would bid $50.00 for him to pay me to take it.   Hahaha

If the bag is genuine I would pay at least $5 plus postage. So they are worth listing, but not at the price he wants for that low a grade.

Its a paper bag... I can't believe these prices! Heck, I'd just print my own and be done with it if I really wanted one.

PS: You get my messages, Neal?

See, this is why I don't see the sense in ridiculous prices for bits of paper. You could fairly easily replicate the originals exactly. Possibly even well enough to pass forensic examination, if you had the right paper and ink. And its not illegal, so doesn't carry the same risks as counterfeiting banknotes.

If you really wanted to find out if a bag is genuine there are (destructive) tests for things that only got into living plant tissue since the 1950s (atmospheric nuclear tests). They use that test on old paintings. So you would need to use old paper of the exact same fibre type, the right ink formula etc.
If they get good enough to do that with the ink then they may as well make fake star  notes, fake misprint errors etc.
Plus when was the last time they prosecuted anyone for faking stuff? If there was any real risk of that there wouldn't be all those fakes openly flogged.

Yeah, that's a whole other can o'worms though. I reckon they should pursue those people like they do people who photocopy $100 notes.
