Title: Local coin & STAMP fair
Post by: proof27 on June 10, 2014, 07:09:31 PM
Went to my first local coin and stamp fair couple weeks ago, should be called stamp fair. I was all excited to see tables full of coins, but when inside it was all stamps, wall to wall of stamps and one little table with coins from a dealer who'd come down from Bendigo.
Are all local fairs like this mainly stamps?

hmmm yep, well you got to know what you want, and it takes a few stamp and coin fairs to figure out what ones are good or not, I only go to one or two now, mostly the same stalls turn up to one then to all, for local stuff.

I know what I want, hard to choose what I want when its tables full of stamps. But I guess you would get to know which ones to go to.

That all depends on what "Local Is"
I'm in Newcastle NSW, one Coin & Stamp fair a month.
The Normal would be 4 Coin Tables and 5 or 6 Stamps.
The stamp tables rule.

more than half - way more - of the coin dealers are people who were stamp dealers originally, then stamps & phone cards dried up and coins became the income earner

clubs - philatelics are stronger than coins but they are getting really old (literally) and the numbers are declining (literally)

don't think that there are many smaller dealers/coin stores  who weren't stampies ex the Eigner brothers and Downies , maybe nobles & Stuart Anderson & pacific rim - the bigger auction house coin dealers I think have always been numismatics

others here would know more

but the little guys are mostly stampies who added coins to their other selling domain
watch them (the stampie dealers) handle coins - rough as guts - no respect for coins at all, I hate it
