Just found this listing for under half the bluesheet value

These were selling last year in the $300-$400 range , That is quite a hike in value.
I just had a look at the pop reports on NGC and PCGS and there have been 151 mules certified so far.
PCGS put the mintage at 400 so according to them nearly 38% of these coins are now in slabs.

Either the popularity of getting coins graded by TPG's has had an unprecedented  boost amongst Australian collectors or Maybe, Just Maybe the 400 figure could be wrong considering that these coins are Stiil being found in change on a regular basis :ok:

Maybe the Bluesheet is wrong?  There's two at that grade on eBay right now that have been available for a little while at 50-60% of blueesheet and they haven't sold.

Stevo1962 shoot me an offer and its yours, I need a new road race bike and the trek Madone I want is $2300, I had a look at some mules on coin dealer sites and Au55 grades were minimum $1800,
Knowing they have an amount of wiggle room in their prices I thought $950 might see someone offer me $600ish?

Thanks CFV but I have 8 of these in PCGS AU55 already.Thankfully they only owe me about $500 each but might have to sell a few of them soon

emu666 is quite correct trout.  We've established several times on this forum that the 400 mintage is a load of rot, including I believe in a thread you started which caused a bit of friction.  Not sure why you've bothered bringing it up again.

:agreed:
I was having a shot at PCGS about their mintage figures.
Nothing to do with a previous thread :ok:
If they are not "Certain" of the Mintage they should simply put "Unknown" instead of a number.
They still insist that there are 16,600,000 Incuse flag Coins out there despite giving it a separate coin number to the normal coin.
We pay good money for their services and I would expect that they got their facts right instead of just guessing at a mintage figure without doing  ANY research .

They get their numbers from Krause who in turn get their numbers from authoritative Australian sources.  I am sure you can work out who those sources are. Perhaps you should take the issue up with those sources.  If you can convince those sources to change the figures in their publications and send copies of that through to Krause they may well change their figures and in turn PCGS will likely change theirs.  There's a project for you.  Get back to us when you're done.

My 2014 Proof  Selectivly gold plated coin taken from the 2014 Proof Set  is listed as being made of Silver , NO mintage figure yet.
Neither of the " authoritative Australian sources" would have printed the data on that coin yet and i imagine that they wouldn't get the metal content wrong anyway.
This is purely a "Guess" by PCGS despite my 2 emails letting them know they have the metal content wrong.

What does that have to do with the mule?  Nothing.

The mule in that listing appears dull and lifeless.
AU55 coins can range from no lustre to considerable lustre. The value of the coin is dependant upon the amount of remaining lustre.
Condier for example a George V florin. An EF with lustre will sell for a lot more than a technical EF without any lustre.

Good point Emu hence the old addage  "buy the coin and not the slab"

QuoteWhat does that have to do with the mule? Nothing.

Nothing whatsoever, Except that the inaccuracy's in the data provided by PCGS   may be a contributing factor at the moment to the high values put on the relatively  low grade Mules.

I see two AU55 mules not selling at about half of Bluesheet.  IMHO what is wrong there is the bluesheet.  Which has nothing to do with PCGS mintage figures nor the PCGS grading.  In fact those coins are graded and SELLING FOR HALF of what the BS says they should.  How exactly is this leading to INFLATED figures?  And anyway Jim, as you build your little strawman consider  how many people in Australia would consult PCGS for mule mintage figures compared with those who would look in our local catalogues?  The answer is almost none.

One thing in the bluesheet's favour here is that I am sure once Walter sees those two coins not selling for a fraction of his CV is that he'll adjust it accordingly.  That sort of fast response simply isn't possible for the paper based catalogues.

I think you are right about the price on Blue Sheet.
Probably because the first few slabbed coins were keenly sought out is why the high prices were achieved .
Now that the dust has settled somewhat I think that the market will return to normality eventually. :ok:

Okaly dokaly, well, after reading the snippets of very useful info here, I have accepted an offer on my mule, I took into consideration previous Ebay sales for ungraded mules which looked to be in better condition than mine that sold for about $5-600ish, the info from Emu and Mark, thank you for your unbiased and balanced input.

I feel I achieved a very solid result, an offer of $700 took the prize.

Once again the value of this forum comes shining through, thanks again from a very happy camper.
