Title: Newbie selling fakes
Post by: jumpydj1 on June 02, 2014, 02:54:52 AM
Hi all,
It's been a while but while having a look around ebay tonight found this coin 251545396403 and reported it.
Then I checked this newbie's previous sales and found he sold 2 other fakes so some poor buyer's have been burnt and probably don't even know it.
Have reported both these coins as well but won't hold my breath that ebay will do anything.
Cheers Dean.

Yeah, buyer beware in the extreme sense these days, first warning sign is inadequate photos/scans.

Yep, Ashamedly I have just been a victim of  34/5 Florin purchase on ebay. Don't like my chances but before I report him and let everyone know he is a fake, I'm in discussions with this *^?#@/<. Love to meet this person in person.

Does reporting to eBay give results?

Don't reckon it does as I have reported dozens of fakes and as far as I'm aware not one has been removed yet.
Ebay only cares about getting their fat fees & not about the buyers getting done over by dodgy sellers.

Did you mean that you have recently been stung as well? If you don't mind can you put a link to the coin in question so we know who to avoid.

They're in plague proportions everywhere,Ebay UK & USA as well. They can be very hard to pick from Ebay photos as some are dressed up with scratches & reeding marks along with gunk that looks like aging.

The 38 Crown is the same, brass base to get the weight up and extremely hard to ID,i'm in Sydney at the moment and don't have my notes but i think this the fake version that has a incomplete HP.

the date on that 1938 Crown is a shocker - thanks  Basil

New to this so I am learning how to spot a fake. I googled a picture of 1938 crown. Now that robbiegal pointed it out the date do look very different. Although I must admit I would not have spotted it. :(

Anything else that stood out as fake??

Yes it is the date that i noticed straight away as being wrong. But these are getting harder to pick. I have noticed at least 4 different fake versions of the 1934/35 florin out there.

Among other things it is the patchy grass knoll that gives the 1915 Florin away.

The fake 1915 Florin sold for $261 even though I reported it. Another unwary buyer had their hard earned money stolen.

make absolutely sure you register and get the tracking number for that sad puppy.
Without it the shyster who sold you the dud could weasel a way out of the refund :ok:

I have only had one occasion that a buyer has asked for a refund ( Item not as described) and that was on a slabbed coin (PCGS) and I think it was either buyers remorse or an onward deal fell through.
As soon as I got the tracking number and verified it I sent the refund because whither or not I got the coin back Paypal would have decided in his favor anyway.
I hope this seller offers you the same service instead of tying your hard earned quid's up for NO reason  :ok:
