I recently bought a bulk load of world coins from Serial. Managed to pull quite a few coins out that I needed. Filled lots of holes, added some new types and even found a low mintage 1998 50 Rupiah from Indonesia.
Here's some pics of just a few of them...

I like the chook
(hope it's not a fighting chook)
yeah and I know two others members that love their bird coins :)
Great pics! I am glad your happy and I hope you enjoy going through your latest load
The chook leapt out at me too as i scrolled through!! Nice.
Now I've just about had enough and especially from to farm girls..IT'S A BLOODY ROOSTER and you's should know that as it has all the marking and such a cool design it even has his spurs on his legs so he's definitely a cock bird :laugh2: I wanna be good
Quote from: 'ausjack' pid='50480' dateline='1401275592'yeah and I know two others members that love their bird coins :)
Hmmm....wonder who that might be..... I kinda know one of them, but not a 2nd????:scratch_one-s_head:
:laugh2: I was only telling Kim last night that when I see different things I instantly think of certain member, eg Birds, AC and Nevol, see a 3d think of AC, see a 64 penny can we guess who, that's right RG and well how many times do I think of trout when you think every bloody dealer has a Canberra florin and he's just the first person to come to mind when I see them and same as ancients I think of sap. Mark, PP and Nevol for errors and others for slabs and yeah I just link, well my stupid brain links things together like that, just find it funny and pretty cool at the same time :)
Ah So! The penny drops.
yeah my brain does it's own funny things now but it's ok..and yes when the penny drops as well :winkextra:

yeah AJ
I googled that and figured it was one of those but I didn't post it being such a shy retiring lady that I am
I did notice the spurs too
and I reckon you blokes would have had a field day with it!!
:blush2: come on RG not me mate, and I wouldn't dare say anything about being a clucky old hen
:scratch_one-s_head: shy retiring lady, I really can't picture you like that RG, I think your bit more of a trickster than you'd like to make out or admit :winkextra:
I wanna retire and become a clucky old hen!!
bad day at the office - so to speak and yep
i'd love to retire and cluck away over the little granddaughter
ho hum
mortgage belt beckons me each day ....
but all in all, it is not as tough as being one of those fighting cocks
gee, around the world, there are heaps of cultures who have them
and some are downright malicious - they tie blades on the rooster's legs
that is what I like about world coins - you learn about other cultures/societies & the history at the time when the coin was designed or produced, as well
This one arrived today and it's super-lustrous. I'm very happy it's a new addition to the non-specific Kath and Mark hoard (Mark just named it that).

It's living in our collection. Not for sale.
Aaaaaaahhhhh can I ask its value?
Wait just found it wow pricey but rare!

"Perfect" Love your collection as far as I have seen it you Blokes and more than mildly jealous :yahoo:
beautiful
specimen?
Yeah it's a specimen in 66. A lot have been graded SP64 and SP65 but a 6 is rare. They didn't take good care of their own collection well but this one just leaps out of the slab at you.
That sure is a pretty coin PPH. A lot nicer than the 1949 I just added to my collection. :)

That's nice. Dare I ask, is it real? The surfaces look a bit granular.

I was hoping someone with your skills could tell me.
My entire collection of ancient's consist of just 2 coins given to me by Sel a couple of years back so I have NO idea whatsoever as to wither this coin is genuine or not .
I am pretty certain that Sap would have a pretty good idea tho :ok:

I am no expert on Greek coins but I have to say the reverse is a dead giveaway that it's cast. Where did you get it? How much did you pay?

As I said I am no expert. But the very granular look to the reverse is usually an indication of a cast replica. And a coin that is probably worth several hundred dollars selling for $60 on eBay is also usually an indicator of a fake. If you want a definite answer I suggest you wait for SAP or head over the Forum Ancient Coins and post it up there. They'll let you know for sure.
Don't worry I still make mistakes all the time. A Mexican 8R arrived here today that looked alright on eBay. Paid $60 for that too. Pity some numpty gave a perfectly fine AU coin an quick polish to make it look better. More the fool me.

Sorry for not noticing this discussion in this thread, and thank you for the PM directing me here. Next time, if you want me to notice your coin quickly, post your coin in a brand new thread and put "Help with ancient coin" or something like that in the title. ;)
Now, as for this coin. The origin at once makes me skeptical - there are some genuine ancient coins to be found for sale on eBay. There are also plenty of fakes. I'd seriously recommend staying far, far away from any seller of ancients on eBay that you do not already know for certain has a spotless reputation. That being said, your first port of call should be the FORVM list of Notorious Fake Sellers (http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=18502.0). If the seller of your coin is listed there, then your coin is fake. 100% guaranteed. If the seller is not listed, then there is still hope.
Another excellent resource on the FORVM website is their large database of fakes (http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/index.php). Once again, if you find a coin in the database that looks exactly like yours (and I do mean "exactly"), then it's also a guarantee of fakeness. It got hacked a few years ago by some malicious fake-seller, so you know it's effective.
Unfortunately, doing a search over there of the fakes database for "Alexander pegasus" returns a dozen different examples of this exact same type, and one of those examples is a perfect match for your coin: it's a "Slavey copy", or perhaps (since it does look cast) a copy of a Slavey copy. Slavey was an American-based fake-master who made hand-struck coins just like the original ancient coins were hand-struck, so while the shape and centring of the coins are often unique, the dies are uniquely his own (not mechanically copied off a genuine coin) and finding a perfect match for a Slavey is very, very bad news indeed. Here's the Slavey coin (http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?pos=-6742). Here's a beat-up, "circulated", cast copy of the same coin (http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?pos=-7069).
There are several key diagnostic points that match, including:
- the crossbar of the letter "N" meets very low, making it look almost like a "H" or even a "W".
- the fold of drapery coming out of his lap reaches down and almost touches the base of the chair, right at the third bead.
- the odd triangular "flaw" just below Apollo's chin on the obverse rim.
In short: sorry, but this coin is 100% definitely not genuine.
Thanks sapyx

Here's a real drachm with the same design. Reputable seller, coin is real.
