Title: Your dream coin ?
Post by: ausproofs on May 24, 2014, 08:13:14 PM
Hey guys,

I was looking at some coin dealers stock for a specific coin.. Came a cross some very nice coins... It got me thinking... What if money is no objection, what coin would you like to own ?

I love my silver so I would love to get a 1932 specimen Florin ! Never seen one, but would be nice to get one !

If not that would love a 1955 P Proof Penny in high grade ..

This is going to take some thought. I once wrote a list of what I aspired to own. I looked back (when I found it again) years later and I'd fulfilled a lot of the list.

My supplier in China can get you a bunch of those really cheap:dodgy:

Yet fools like me search through piles of halfs hoping that maybe we might get lucky to get a VG one.

a perfect GEM 1964 Y penny (in red - even better!)
i'd be in heaven

a good friend of mine proudly showed me his MS66 1964 Y (?RB/RD/BN - label doesn't state colour) penny "APGS" that he bought off ebay recently

he of course got a Robbie earful as I was disgusted at what he paid for it and that he was stupid enough to think those idiots can grade, plus I hold the record for highest graded PCGS 1964y's ...so i was even more miffed!!

years of searching and then those idiots ruin it for us

anyway, off topic I know

Robbiegal
the most frustrating thing is that people are buying into it.
at some point police will be involved I reckon.

As for my dream coin?
A business strike 1923 1/2d with underlying luster and red through the legends...doesnt even have to be unc, gEF / aUNC would be fine

Looking at Heritage you could get an impaired (PR61-62) for $5000-$10,000.  A nice one (PR66-67) could be $30,000.

Why is it that coin design reached a peak around that time that has never been equalled? As nice as the Gothic Crown was I think that Una and the Lion is even more beautiful. William Wyon was the best of the best.

well my dream coin isn't like you might think but then again, I want a 3 tone coin with "adavance the wonderful nation of  ausjack, the supreme ruler" on one side and of course my very pretty effigy on the other AND solid gold of course..am I dreaming :laugh2:

Well you's didn't say they had to be a real coin but I'll never have the money for my dream coins but still nice to dream :)

Yes I must admit very nice indeed, so why is it that they actually look more 3d/life like than coins of today with all their high-tech :dodgy:

After much thinking over the last two days I have come to the conclusion that I don't have a dream coin.

Does this mean I am losing interest in collecting?

Wouldn't AJ want his own flag on his coin?
How about buying a wheat farm in WA and becoming Prince AJ and then you can have your mug on your own currency. It has been done before by a bloke in Hutt.
