They would be coconut eating crabs
I once got crabs - from the motel bedding at the Three Ways in the Northern Territory (or was it Tenant creek?)- way back in 1970 something ha ha
not nice being in the middle of the sticks with an itchy you know what!!
Here's a picture I took of the ugly buggers, when I went on a cruise.
Yes, I picked up many of those coins too.

Thanks Steve, so I take it we can eat them, and looks like there's plenty of meat, yumm, love anything from the ocean but not so keen on fish but only 'cause of bones so that's why I just love shark :)
are they some sort of land crabs?
look far too bug like to eat for my liking
so pleased that those ones weren't lurking in the motel bedding on my trip to NT !!!
How big was the tree? That crab look humungous.
Yes and yes from what I googled, can be eaten and are really big and can't swim :)

i'd be too scared to go down to the beach in the night time
they are endangered - people eat them - yikes again!
Here's another pic, might give you a better idea of the size.
This one was living in a cave in the forest.
