IF it is genuine.
It sold for about 10% of its value.

It does look a bit suspicious and you would have to be very brave or very
stupid to take a chance at that level

Fred and I discussed the genuineness of some of the mules about a week ago and his concern that a number of mules have pretty lousy obverses. Then I saw this coin a few days ago with a spiel about some old collector....and Trout only asks IF it is genuine?
What sort of seller puts a genuine mule on eBay?

Just edited my post for you Mate :ok:
The reverse looks to be in VF condition and the obverse is in aGood condition.
Pretty rare that a coin will wear so unevenly.
I notice how they show the edge of the coin , looks a bit weird and shiny in comparison to the rest of the coin.

To me it looks like there is no real wear on the coin at all.

Anyone in their right mind would put a genuine coin of that magnitude into a legitimate auction about not ebay but then it
would be pulled up as a fake if that was the case so we have to assume that it is indeed a fake

Or maybe the seller is a lunatic and therefore the coin could be genuine

I'm sure this one is fake.
Its  not impossible though for super rare coins to appear on ebay at no reserve.

If that is the case the seller got shafted instead of the buyer.

I've just got the following from Wyzeguy60.

Of the known examples, they were examined and a die chip was found on the reverse. This was present on all genuine examples that were examined. This pic is from the NGC site and it shows the die marker. It is not present on the coin from ebay.

Easiest test for the "mule" would be to weigh it.
I do agree that super rare coins do show up on eBay at no reserve. Twice last year I got coins that are as rare as the mule just by keeping my eyes open.:yahoo:

One was in CAB a few months ago (Dot Above English), should make top of the pops once PCGS gets around to slabbing the die pairs. Got it for about what gF examples go for.
The other is a Zeri Mahbub 1187/7 minted in Islambul. So far it is the only known example. It was an absolute bargain at under melt (its a hammered gold coin). I'm lucky that most potential bidders cannot read any Arabic or Ottoman Turkish words; I guess the seller is illiterate as well (even though he is the foremost dealer in Middle Eastern coins) as he had it listed as minted in Misr (Egypt) . Haven't yet got around to publishing it yet so no image.

No reserve. If you got that cheap it would be the buy of the century.
