Title: Some Australian Medals
Post by: markn on April 21, 2014, 08:59:35 PM
I've added a third light to our camera setup which allows for much better images of large medals and highly lustrous coins.  Here's some images of some beautiful Australian medals that I've taken with the new lighting setup.

The Numismatic Association of Australia Ray Jewell Prize medal.

The Numismatic Association of Australia Paul Simon Memorial Prize medal.

The top 2 are prize medals so you can't buy them. You have to do some numismatic research and write about it and be the lucky person.

Ray Jewell Award (http://www.numismatics.org.au/ray-jewell-award-2/)
Paul Simon Memorial Award (http://www.numismatics.org.au/paul-simon-memorial-award-3/)

That's the Jewish Menorah (candle holder).  The one used to symbolise Judaism has 7 branches and you see it on lot's of different medals and coins.

Mark,
I'm flabbergasted :nx:
Perhaps ANS should introduce an award for images.
You have managed to raise the bar yet again.

Thanks Rob, I'm tickled pink with them to be honest.  About the best images I've taken and I'm not seeing how they can be improved much.

Mark, are the Ray Jewell and Paul Simon medals inscribed with the name of the person to which they were awarded?

These are blank medals supplied for us to photograph. When awarded the recipient has their name engraved on the edge (so I'm told).

We also got to hold and "try on" the Peter Badcoe Medal at our coin club meeting last week as it's produced by the Adelaide Mint.
