I posted a pick of Gibraltar coin with the George and the Dragon design and it got me thinking, how many different coins use this design or something similar.
Please post pics of your coins.
Here is the Gibraltar coin to kick it off.

Closest I've got to a Sovereign;
Imitation Sov (Gilt) 1823
It belonged to my FIL, has been mounted at some long ago time, nothing else known about it.

Well is that it?
Only four coins the whole world with that design.
I thought there would be lots more. :)

I regret selling a whole bunch of Brit crowns with this famous design on them when Silver hit $48 per oz a while back ( they were all worn cleaned coins) and I didn't keep any :dash1:
The Brit Crowns and the Sovereigns are IMHO the most recognized coins with this design on them .
I am amazed that no other member has posted a Brit crown yet
I have a couple 1951 Festival Of Britain Crowns and have looked but can't find them.

C,mon folks! There are plenty more George & Dragon coins out there.
I've done a little research and found at least 7 Countries that have used it . There are 39 Types with 6 different denominations and spanning the reigns of 6 K's & Q's, plus 1 other Country.
I'm hoping some of you have some different ones to show us.
There may very well be more than what I found.
Edit: I added all the Russian versions and the data now is:
7 Countries
13 Denominations
51 Types (Different metals etc)
This is all I have to add.

My Gibraltar coin was in the mail when I got back from Bush.
A bit dinged for an Unc coin but still very nice

Nice pics, Nancy.
I thought there would be more countries with this design.
Could have sworn I'd seen more over years.
The Royal Mint have made attempts in recent time to modernise the design for the sovereign, but with little success.
First in 2005

Then in 2012

ummm yeah not the best lookin coins but like some of ours latest I think they could have done a better job, the 2012 is the nicer lookin coin of the two but both are pretty sad really and to think someone gets paid big money to do this :( Thanks Splock :good: and haven't had a reply on the knife coin yet so they might have shut down.

I like that one, Robbiegal.
Looks like George broke his lance in the Dragon and is coming back for the kill.
gee that's a nice coin for it's age RG
Nevol posted pics of that same coin earlier in this thread - that one looks about the same grade too
I really like the design - I think it is referred to as the 'Art Deco' design
I have been eyeing that coin design for years and finally found a nice enough one to buy at the local coin show last year

Yep and it's also known as the Rocking Horse Crown.
"Never ride without a helmet". even if you are a 'Saint'.! lol.
Wise words Robster. On this medal he's wearing a halo is that sufficient protection? This is the George Medal, which is the second level civil decoration of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. It was instituted on 24 September 1940 by King George VI and is presented to civilians performing acts of bravery. The reverse depiction of St. George & Dragon was designed by none other that George Kruger-Gray, he of the KG initials on the reverse of Australian pre-decimals among others.

My one and only.!
Splock, thanks for showing the George Medal.
Like the George Cross it can be awarded to military personnel (not just civilians), lots of recipients are soldiers doing courageous deeds (like defusing UXBs) both in war and peace.
never thought of the feathered helmet as a halo
I will always see George in a different light now!

I think the "Halo" is on the George Medal Kruger Grey design and not the Puccini design which is a Roman style helmet which was used for the Crowns and sovs.
:yahoo: Well I can finally play but won't say who it was but someone here has been holding out on us Mr Trigg as I got this and think it's so cool :)

AJ
if my memory serves me right (which is hardly ever really does)
This is a sailors token/charm that they carried for good luck on the bonny blue seas
tokens at times had exchange values depending on the port/country and the currency that was available there
(i.e. Australia used tokens a heck of a lot as the colonial Australia didn't actually have any money to speak of!)
Cool, very informative thanks for that RG, being an old slat I might have to put it in me wallet for luck, Shiite I need all I can get these days :)
yeah - I have a different one that I also keep for good luck
SHOW ME..please :)
Kel is such a nice bloke and he knows I like world coins and he gave me one of these little beauty's, yeah no dragon sorry but thought it should still be able to make it having George but could also make it as a sports themed coin
