Title: 2014 circulating coins
Post by: Davidium on February 19, 2014, 05:58:46 PM
Just a thought, does anyone have a feeling on what might be put on our circulating coins this year?
And which denomination it may be?

Keep an eye on the Currency Determinations. They describe everything precisely, and are often referred to here.

2014? I wish!
50¢ noodlimg last week and this week has turned up many 2013 -around 20% of population.
Neither of the two banks has had them so, must be the supermarket -all with Armaguard but bank contracts are serviced from Orange and supermarket is state wide contract. [I could advise Armaguard, for a fee of course, how they could cut some costs with their delivery/pickup runs.]

I continue to wait. I have picked up Unc Armaguard bags from local banks before with two year old dates.

Title: RE: 2014 circulating coins
Post by: Pedro on September 20, 2014, 07:29:16 AM
CC, to my knowledge the RAM has flagged the 2014 mintages for:

MOR $1 2.0m
ANZAC $1 23.0m
AIATSIS 50c 2.0m

The mintages for rest we need to wait for the upcoming 2013/14 RAM annual report for guidance. Even then however more 2014 coins should be produced in 2014/15 so unless the RAM specifically announces otherwise (like they have with the abovementioned issues) final mintages for 2014 coins won't be available until later next year.

When they're available CC they will turn up here and click on the denomination you want on the left hand side, hope it helps mate. http://www.ramint.gov.au/designs/ram-designs/50c.cfm

Or like Pedro said you can chase up RAM annual report.

If the RAM is lying re the rolling of the 2014 Kangaroo 41's then why would they do only some and not all.

I spoke with the Portable press operator(s) at the Melbourne Show Monday, 29 Sep 2014 and they confirmed that ALL the coins were rolled by the RAM as they had to do maintenance on the coin rolling machine before it could be used.

I don't think the mint would have bothered to roll every $1 MOR 2014 coin minted... that's would be a lot of time wasted on their behalf as they sold them at face value to dealers, Armaguard is one of the country's normal circulation coin distributers, as such the mint has probably had enough making mint rolls and has sent the coins to the distributer companies

insert the pics into powerpoint, choose a matching design background and then save it as a Jpeg interchange format slide in your photos folder (if you like)
I did reduce the pixcels coins first intending to upload them here from photobucket - they would look much better if I had not had done that

there are other ways to do it but I don't know how to - bet that you can in the paint program

OMF - you will be up there showing us how it's done in no time - practice practice is the operative word for it

Not too sure where my head's at these days.  When I went to put the $2 away, I discovered I already had 5 of them, and I'd say 4 of them came from circulation.  The 5th one is in a 2x2 with someone else's writing on it so I obviously bought it, but I have absolutely no recollection of any of them. :dontknow:

None of them are in what I'd call 'good' nick and all will go back in the pond, including the one in the 2x2, if I come across some better ones.

although it has a a couple of mint depression errors (one on the edge of the largest roos tummy and one near its front paws) but I hope PCGS receive it well

QuoteOpened up 5 rolls of MOR 2014 $1 coins and this was the best of them
although it has a a couple of mint depression errors (one on the edge of the largest roos tummy and one near its front paws) but I hope PCGS receive it well

Looks MS64 to me Mate.
These were NOT well looked after at all :dash1:

I have come across everything now except for the commemorative $2. Has anybody seen these in circulation yet? (I may have missed this somewhere else)

I got $200 in security bags of 'standard' 50c pieces the other day. I've only found a single AIATSIS 50c so far!

Have picked up about 20 of the ANZAC $1s over the past couple of weeks so they are out in force but strangely have yet to see a 2014 5c (not expecting to see a green $2 in change if last year is any guide with the purple $2).

Be vigilant as the 2013 MOR and the 2014 have been released by AG at the same time.
One 500 coin sack (25 X $20 yellow bags) can hold 2013 or 2014 mor, but generally not mixed.

'Be vigilant as the 2013 MOR and the 2014 have been released by AG at the same time." Quite common for UNC, sealed bags to turn up here two or three years down the track! Obviously Armaguard hasn't grasped the concept of rotating stock.

Sacks (500 COIN BAGS i.e. 25 x 20 coin baggies) of 2013 MOR are still being distributed by the security cos as of today.

Be vigilant as there may also be 2014 MOR mixed among those 2013's.

And 11 green 2 dollars.
Also today in change a 1991 50 cent piece, always a great day when one of these land in your hands.

Over the last 20 years I have thrown into a box shiny coins found in change. That amount can be counted in kilograms rather than pieces  so I have to do something with them. Is there any value in them or just buy lollies with them? for instance there are few 1988 50c first fleet that have original lustre but magnified inspection will reveal that it has certainly been circulating.
Title: RE: 2014 circulating coins
Post by: Ozcoins on February 09, 2015, 08:21:35 AM
Values will depend on what the coins are.
Most coins from circulation are not worth much over face value.
Some to check for would be
"2000 Incuse 50c", "2000 $1/10c mule", "2001 rotated $1"
those in nice condition will be worth a fair bit over face value.
Title: RE: 2014 circulating coins
Post by: JeffH on February 09, 2015, 08:55:43 AM
Any low mintage, in good condition would be worth keeping.
To mention a few;
•1972 5¢
•1971 20¢
•1995 20¢ (United Nations)
•1985, 1993 50¢
•1991 50¢ ramshead
•2001 Centenary of Federation 20¢ and 50¢

There is a thread in the forum listing known upset (rotated) coins. And have a browse through for threads discussing error and variety coins such as;
•$1 rabbit ears
•Double bar 50¢
•Cuds, planchet flaws, collar errors
•1970 and 1994 50¢ date varieties
•2008 gap and 2010 bubble 20¢
That's just some off the top of my head.

Check out also the forum wiki and a visit here The Australian Coin Collecting Blog (http://www.australian-threepence.com/) would not go astray. Plenty of other sites also discuss varieties and errors.

You could also look on eBay to see what varieties are listed and sold -but be careful; a lot are manufactured and not genuine.

If you don't know what to do with the "keepers" take take your chances on eBay or offer them here. I would be happy to negotiate to buy some of the ones I mentioned (and probably others that have just slipped my mind now).
Title: RE: 2014 circulating coins

A few more that come to my mind are,

1966 Wavy 20 cents
2014 $1 MOR
Any coloured $2 coin

Again not all coins will be worth much more than face value, but to the right collectord you might double the face value (if not more).

Yeah tell me about it and they keep getting more and more every year, or should I say find more reasons to mint more different designs so they have sort of gone from one extreme to the other where they hardly made any "special" coins but now they release 20 new "special" coins a year..it's just not cricket :(
