sorry if their is already a thread about this;
The Royal Australian Mint is currently preparing for the announcement of the Anzac Centenary collectable coin program; we expect to have more information about our coin releases for this important historical and commemorative period in the near future.
To tide you over until that time, we would like to provide you with details of today's launch of the new 2014 $1 100 Years of ANZAC – The Spirit Lives circulating coin. This coin was unveiled by the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, The Hon. Steve Ciobo at Parliament House today.
The coin features the Anzac Centenary logo including the image of an Australian Digger. The coin is rimmed with a motif reflecting the sun's rays as captured on the Australian Army's Rising Sun badge. This circulating coin has been produced with the approval of the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
This coin will be entering general circulation around Australia from today, and will be distributed through banks and retailers. This coin is not available for purchase and is not available in uncirculated or proof finish. As a circulating coin, the 2014 $1 100 Years of ANZAC coin is not a part of the Royal Australian Mint's commemorative coin program.
The Mint will be producing a large number of these coins, approximately one for every person in the country. While it may take some time for the circulation to reach everyone, it is hoped that all Australians will have held one of these coins in the near future.
We believe this circulating coin release is a great way to engage all Australians in the Centenary of Anzac commemorations and assist in the story-telling of this history.
We are all very excited for the ANZAC coin program and the coins that we will be making to honour this event over the next four years.

I like the design of the coin and everything about being a returned serviceman myself however, I am puzzled as to how/why/where I will be able to secure some of these in UNC condition.
A leading dealer here in Melbourne informed me today that they are confirmed to receive a quantity of these coins BUT they will be PNC's and not as UNC circulating coins.
If anyone has the know how as how one can secure a quantity of these new release coins in UNC condition, I would like to know.

The usual deal... Armaguard sacks, and take your chances with bagmarks.
The RAM is just trying to mess with you Goldie!

These coins will be available in unc in various forms of packaging that's for sure
not to offend but i do not like it

I don't think they could have said it any clearer.
I await the eBay "Frenzy" on these coins :-/:whistle2:

Another 2 weeks?
And I like this comment:
Garry Feb 13, 2014
Why celebrate the 99th anniversary of Anzac? Is it so hard to consult the AWM to see that the acronym "ANZAC"was first used in 1915. Is the numpty who thought that a 1914 "Anzac" coin centenary coin is appropriate Australian or another useless import.Kind of reminiscent of the whole millennium BS happening a year early, innit?
Twenty-three million of the coins will go into circulation
I feel that
Digger (1) 0 0
degrades the importance of the coin in that the Digger replaces the numeric value of ONE,
when the whole theme is to promote a value of 100.
Would rather have seen 100 Diggers on the coin celebrating one hundred years rather than one Digger imitating the numeric 1.
Poor design imho!
Quote from: 'runway' pid='43030' dateline='1393681901'Twenty-three million of the coins will go into circulation
Original press release stated "one coin for every Australian" owtte!
I'm sure the coin will look better in real life than the images RAM have provided
Did anyone get these on Canberra Day ?

As expected...told you so ...this coin is now in an official AP PNC
QuoteAs expected...told you so ...this coin is now in an official AP PNC
It may be on a PNC but it will still only be a coin taken from a roll or mint baggie.
No special treatment just a regular coin you could pick up from the bank.

While they've produced some absolutely awesome designs over the years, I think we'd all agree that there have been some pretty yawnworthy issues. And this, very sadly, I would put in that category. Though I may change my mind once I get my claws on one...

Just waiting for the sacks to hit any of my 30 banks... absolutely no sign anywhere yet... maybe all the negative feedback (design, 99 years instead of 100, etc) actually had some impact? *shrug*
Just wondering when the silver proof one of these will be announced

The program ....

You missed my point. It makes no sense to have a program and have an issue with that theme but not have it included in the program.
But then why say you can't get it elsewhere when they would have already supplied/or were in the process of supplying them to Australia Post.
I do get your point and it makes no sense to me either why these aren't in the program?
PNC will be realistically the easiest way to obtain this coin in unc for me ... I have no chums in chubb
haha I think you guys are having two different conversations mixed up

Nice result so far mate! Ive listed some BIN. See how it goes. Ill split a bag up to divy up here tonight. There are 20 coins going for those that want em. 1 coin each. Pm me your address. First 20 get them.
The coins are the best i have ever seen in the little bags. Theyve come from the mint and are much less bagged than average armaguard bags.
If anyone wants a full bag they can have em for $80.
I didnt mention the single coins are free
Im giving them away

Advertised as a Mint Roll, but it's actually a Chubb Roll, so the buyer is a bit of a d**kh**d. Takes all kinds I s'pose. :dontknow: :scratch_one-s_head:
no I consider a chubb roll a mint roll if they are all mint state coins
a lot of coins are unavailable unless you get a mint bag that usually contain thousands in coins

Well I will have a couple of blocks soon and I hope that non are contaminated as I am told that they run a barrel at a time through the rolling machine. Apparently Chubb buy their coins in big drums !
I tend to keep a couple of mint roll blocks from every year/denomination that I can get my hands on.

get to know your banks people! a box of roses doesn't go astray every once in a while as well
chub wont sell coins to public even though I am sure they look after their friends

Yes I know Chubb policy it has nothing to do with the banks so which bank or banks do Chubb supply new rolls to ?
chubb will only release new rolls when they have a shortage of old reused coins. so you need to get your bank business teller to order a massive amount of stock from them so they have to release some of there reserve stock which is usually the new stuff that is rolled and waiting to be released in the back of the safe. however be warned you may end up getting something else. I recently got a couple of blocks of 2011 MOR $1 mint rolls so don't be surprised if you don't get what you want straight away (after this I went nuts on 10cents in the hope of hitting a 2011 load but instead got 2012)
another way is to drain your local branch of change so they have to order more. you do this by going to a armaguard bank with money you with drew from a chubb bank. deposit money then repeat.
this will mean that the local chubb supplier will run out of coin and have to release new coinage held in surplus.
note that you will need to id which banks use what change suppliers, open 2 accounts in 2 branches and generally make work for a lot of people that may piss them off so do this at your peril
Just take notice of what cash trucks are around, the coin truck has the coin trolley on the back, if you follow it though you may get a visit from the coppers, best to just see where its parked and then go in and talk to the tellers ask if the get new coin often or old stuff.
I have just completed a sale of one unopened bag of 20 x $1 ANZAC coins, for $103.00 something.
A nice price and it pays for the other four bags that are currently sitting on my desk.

I went to my local Safeway store and spoke to the tellers. I go two bags from the booze shop and one from the front counter. The other two bags, the wife got.
These must have hit the banks in force, eBay is chokka with shysters trying to flog these of in baggies and rolls.
Won't be long now before we see these in our change big time :)
wow runaway, real respectful.
different bank branches have different contracts so I don't know who the local banks in your area use.
maybe you can follow everyone's advice, get of your compute and go speak to a teller, nicely, to found out for yourself?
however in my area
Com bank - chubb
Anz - chubb
Westpac - armaguard
boq - chubb
Here is Westpac, Armaguard; Commonwealth, Armaguard -and that's it. Only two Banks in town and one is an "in store" branch (actually a franchise).
Once I know they are circulating well and people can't secure any, I shall break open my bags and do a one for one swap via a self addressed stamped envelope.
Wifey secured another 13 in change late last week. So it won't be long before they start to appear everywhere.

Welcome to the forum!
ErevisCale: Please be advised, that a coin that is normally minted on the portable presses at ANDA Shows, generally have a limited issue of around 5,000 per show, with four shows per year, that is 20,000 coins which is much less than 23,000,000 coins for this ANZAC issue.
I can't see where a one off year type of 23,000,000 can be a limited issue.
Sorry, the ANZAC $1 coin certainly is not a limited edition.

I have already answered that question
Where are they all, 23 million of the buggers.
I thought that they would have flooded the place for ANZAC day.
Still waiting.
o don't you know how money works, and im the one that supposed to have the brain injury...
the government buy the money from the mint to circulate it, so if the population is spending money then they add more etc
now the mint made two type of dollars for 2014 the MOR and the ANZAC as far as I know, they send them to the distribution company's like chub or armguard, or they could move what ever is in there vault, like older date they might have spare but I don't think they would have many older barrels sitting around, you would think they would strategic produce enough for demand move them and if needed mint more.
you see new coins turn up when business tell the local distributor that they want coin and thus coins turn up in circulation, I know how all the local business work around here - armguard supplies the businesses and banks
AC sorry to hear that you have a BI
they can recover quite well you know

haha I feel fine, I passed all my mental tests, I just had a brain bleed, doesn't mean I am mental retard.... or does it bahaha
good to hear
probably just the impact
nah - people can have BI's and not be too badly disaffected
but for some folk, sometimes things just need to re-wire and that takes time and lot's of physio to get things re-connecting where possible (or so they tell me anyways)
I am sure that you are fine - you certainly have got us thinking here with your posts!! great to have you back
thanks you are a sweet lady BIG HUGS

Robbie is a sweet treasure. The Mint suggested 23 million was a coin for everyone. I think they should have personally given me one!
I was however gifted one of these hand picked for me so thank you to the giver, it's going in my collection.

I just got one in my change. My GF got one a while ago and gave it to me. I always look at my change when I get it, so I can separate the ones worth keeping. I often get the feeling that the staff think I dont trust them though !

They were supposed to circulate for ANZAC day. But apparently there's been too much recirculated coin coming through, so Armaguard have been sitting on them.
Which really, REALLY pissed the mint off, and they are now reconsidering their distribution arrangements.

That seems odd.
Why would the company keep the new ones, if they are supposed to go out?
I do not think it makes any difference if they sit on $XXXXXX of new coins or $XXXXXX of old coins. (or does it?)
I am not saying that it did not happen like that, but it seems pretty silly for them to do that.
Mobile press at War Memorial would have been fantastic
Armaguard have certainly been supplying eBay resellers with rolls
For Triggersmob: I sort /noodle $1 coins and I do get some 100 year ANZAC coins. If you like I shall extract them and when I get a pile, send them over to you.
They will be circulated coin.
Up to you.

this is ridiculous
I have 4 different banks trying to get these for me and I have been through over $15k worth of coins in the last week and a half and not one single 2014 dollar coin!
I am telling you the security companies are looking after their own and releasing them via ebay!
I cant think of any other reason why we have not got any here yet!
I've managed to find 3 so far Serial, so they are out there but definately not in any great quantity as yet.
I tend to disagree with your generalized comment there serial.
My wife and I have secured six bags of 20 coins (three from a movie box office and three from Woolworths checkouts) several weeks ago and I have noodled several during the past two weeks. I have not secured any bags from banks at all.
When I frequent banks and ask them if they have any they reply "we don't get them".
I noodled one today but the wife has taken it for some unknown reason but any more I find will be offered up to forum members as advised above.
I am not sure where you live but maybe you should go to your local super market and shops and see if they have received any/them.
In the past 10-12 years since I have been noodling I have never, and I mean that, secured bulk "new coins" from any bank. They have always come from clubs, casinos and local shops.

how on earth can you noodle $15K worth of coins in a week. Let alone get a hold of such quantities?
do you get the kids on the job as well?
how many of you are in wa?
and Robbie girl, I do it in front of the tv and target certain coins eg NCLT, rotation 2001, mules, major errors etc and avoin minor cuds. I also have a good relationship with my donor bank and I dump noodled stuff over a number of different banks
I also have a very understanding partner :)
I can also go through $1k an hour nowdays, you gotta have a system!
well I reckon that is incredible
I take about 3 months to properly sort about 10 kilos of pennies and then I just might recheck them again ... and again ha ha
admittedly I work full-time so I guess I lose the better part of most days
but jeepers
if I have $1k it would still take me more than a week, I reckon
yeh stay at home dad here so I have time
I just gave my daughter a book on how to grade kgv coins so I am going to go through some 1/2 pennies with her now
gotta teach the kids young
Some are making a quick buck.
I will not be buying one of these rubbish coins.

good on ya dad
ps
you could make her up a grading set - like a reference set
my dealer made one for me years ago and I still use it
I have the Anda book with pics and I just showed her a you tube vid on how coins are struck then explained cartwheeling and why. we just finished. enough for the night bloody hard work when she wants to show me every little thing!
I also showed her some slabbed coins for reference material and she wants to see a FDR coin now. sigh

I have no doubt serial does that. I used to go through dollar coins (courtesy of Burswood Casino and the Perth banks) at a rate of about 1500 per hour.
:shok: I can't think that fast let alone move that many coins in an hour!
Pedro
My daughter is 11 and my son 10. The both help out but Saffron has a better aptitude for it. The both get excited to see my latest purchase when I get an aus post package. My hope is that they don't sell stuff cheaply when they inherit it unlike so many people.
well I recommend that you enjoy the hobby with your kids now and don't fret about the posthumous bizzo
the kids will have fond memories of sorting through coins with Dad and that is the important part of it & it's right now
they will learn and be more cautious when it comes to selling, but markets and values change like the wind in this hobby - what is worth a few quid today may have no collector value in as little as 5 years time (or less)
but gee, if we only really collect for when we have kicked the bucket ... then i'd chuck it in today!

Sounds like at leat one budding collector there serial.
I drag them round on my bank runs as well and they love it when I get something. But get annoyed when I don't. I tried to get them into noodling but they get bored to easily but when I have done a batch they are excited to see what I have found. I also promised them both a fine silver set for their birth year if the get sold a's and only 1 b at the end of the year. I have already got the 2003 set. I do adore the fact they are getting into it. Better than other hobbies they could have
Please explain.... if you can, because I'm confused.
There are 23 million of this ANZAC coin released, selling for $6.95 each
Yet there are 1 million 2014 MOR's released, selling for $3.95 each
See why I'm confused.

Doesn't make any sense does it? :scratch_one-s_head:
because there is a glut of MOR coins atm thanks to downies releasing the rolls so cheap. give it time for the dust to settle and see which coin end up being worth more.
and the security companies will have to release the Anzac coins sometime! then you will know what glut is
Quotethanks to downies releasing the rolls so cheap
I take my Hat Off to Downies for doing this and making the rolls available at a reasonable price other than going through the eBay "Shysters" BS prices :good:
That may be so trout but the question was why are they selling for less than the Anzac coins and that is what I answered. I myself am thankful that downies did what they did as it gave me an opportunity to purchase a sizable amount myself as I think they are currently under valued and will see a greater return than say a term deposit over 5-10 years

I have no idea why the MOR coins are selling for less than the Anzac coins which IMHO are a pretty "MEH" design and are most certainly not scarce with a mintage of 23Mil.
Personally I couldn't collect rolls because I just would NOT be able to stop myself from cracking them open to find that elusive MS66-68 coin that may be hidden within the roll.
The funny thing with rolls is the longer you DON'T open them the less likely you are of finding that "Pristine" coin due to the way they are packed/stored :ok:
I know! I am struggling not to open a couple myself. I may do so in order to send a couple of in the next grading run. But I don't know what to do with the left covers. Most likely just eBay them to onset my cost

You could always send me your second best one
Lil the best 2nd best and maybe 3rd would be sent to the plastics factory. You can have my 4th, just remember I am no emu. You might end up with my best

Just joking Mate, AC sent me a nice coin that I recon will go at least MS64 and I am happy with that in my collection :)
If you do crack a roll go through them at least 4-5 times before you make a call :ok:
yeh I know to do that but it wont make a huge difference. I will go with my gut but in the end I am still an amateur.
I will mainly look for detracting bag marks, rim dings and breaks in lustre.
my offer stands if you need another trout
I just need one!!!
pm me your details. when I open the roll (in next 2-3 weeks) I will send you one
wait a sec, did you not get a roll?
Would the PNC coin be better grade than rolled coin?
Good question. I have a PNC and have also wondered if it was any different to the circulated coin. Someone here would be able to fill us in. If it is then its the one to have.
Cougar I would hope the PNC coin to be specimen quality ... the coin in the PNC I have has fantastic eye appeal
I have both the loose coins and the PNC and both coins appear to be like wise.
Still have not seen any of the 23 million coins yet.
I've seen zilch in circulation there's heaps on greedBay
I now have one.
Thanks Jayson
your welcome but truly my pleasure mate :hi: Some members have been really nice and helped me out a lot so I like it when I can help others :friends:
Apart from the one AJ sent me I have still not seen any of these coins.
Never seen a circulated 2014 Anzac

I've probably picked up 4-5 in change/noodling
Joe
I've got as many as I'll ever need, but none seen in circulation yet.
I have been finding them noodling recently. PM me if you really need one -mostly reasonably good condition.
I managed to get a couple of bags here in Adelaide today. It wont be long till they are in change.

They sure are RG, very pretty indeed.

Hey Cougar how do you get these new bags? I've asked the teller at my bank (HSBC in Circular Quay Sydney) and she stared back me like I am an exotic zoo animal. Is it just a matter of going to every branch and see which one gets them from Armaguard?
I actually got these from a local supermarket. I struck up a friendship with the local manager let him know I was looking for some and he kindly offered to keep an eye out and true to his word he let me know.
Much like you, I found the banks harder to get a positive reaction from.

If all these mobile press locations had a special folder to identify them from I believe collectors would be more interested
This coin has not had the usual "C", "B", "S" & "M" Privy & Counterstamps.
This has only (so far) will have "AL" & "M" counterstamps.
I would guess that there would be some sort of folder for it.
post removed to correct thread
I can't wait to see these finally circulated here :)
Please PM me anyone who wants some of these and location of where you live please.
I have seven spares removed from circulation and a unbroken bag of 20.
THE ABOVE OFFER HAS NOW BEEN FULLY TAKEN UP. IF I CAN SECURE MORE, I SHALL POST HERE.
I have just found my first one of these in circulation :yahoo:
I put a note in a vending machine at the hospital and got one in my change.
:wavemulticolor:
So did you get another ten cans of coke with notes? Ha ha
