so i am going home tomorrow and would like to know the coin shops i can visit while i am in the area, so far i have, gold coast coins and stamps - gave them a call and they siad i could take pics but all the error coins have no prices on them yet so they are not for sale, yeah didnt seem impressed with that, especially when it an hr drive from the air port, also looked up australian coins and banknotes and no phone anwser - do they exist anymore?
anyway suggestions would be nice, thx AC
Southport is the main one now,i think nearly all the others are closed or work their business's from PO boxes. Like in the US Pawnbrokers are starting to fill the void as Stamp/Coin dealers close so well worth a look in Coolangatta /Tweed Heads. They know the book value of Silver/Gold & key dates but are usually very vague on varieties & errors so you can pick up a bargain.l
haha thx, thats not as far to travel :)
:dodgy: thanks Basil but they didn't have anything any cash converters had nothing at all, a real shame as it would have been nice to find a few coins but I now have to go to brissie or southport :( But one day I'll get there, thank you and appreciate you help mate :good:
Oh sorry not saying your dodgy Basil but the pawnshops, had nothing and what they did have was very dear and not in good nick but ya get that on the big jobs :good:
Yeah AJ,i'm not comfortable with Pawnshops either but they do turn over a lot of coins/notes,where else can someone take something to sell without listing on the Internet or losing an arm/leg in a Newspaper Ad.
Yeah it's slim pickings on the Gold Coast. Last time I checked it was only the guy in Southport in the the house.

Gold Coast Stamps and Coins told you that?
OMG I find that strange coming from a well respected ANDA dealership they are always more than helpful
I don't know what was said but I can confirm AC did ring and try and ring a few place and that's what she told me so to my knowledge yes it is true :( Mate I live in a huge coin void, I have a minimum three hour drive north if the south port one is any good and don't know how far south to find a decent one as the closest I have is the markets and ya can ask AC there's not much there so very slim pickins up this way, no bloody wonder I get so down :P
The people that live near coin shops and coin clubs don't know how lucky they are as I just don't have it in me to drive for three hours at night to go to a very small coin club and that's why I want to travel a bit and go to a few coinshow/fairs and maybe even an auctions if I can sweet talk my mate in Sydney when I get there :good:

Maybe. But then again a lot of dealers are rogues and thieves. And I've picked up some nice goodies at unlikely places, like Eumundi Markets, a little second-hand dealer in Beechworth, and even an op-shop. In fact, I don't think
any of my 1940 shillings came from a coin shop (about the only predecimals I actively look for).

Yeah, always worth a look in Op-Shops,2nd hand dealers, markets etc when travelling and you have the time but hard to get a bargain in these days of the Internet.
AJ..Andrew at Online Coins,142 Keen St. Lismore, has a shopfront, its up the stairs on the side of the Chinese Restaurant. He's reasonable if you want something in particular.
Also there is a 2nd hand dealer/Pawn shop on Cavill Ave. in the middle of the Gold Coast that often has Coins on display but better to ring first so you don't waste a trip.
thank you Basil :hi: I have been to online coins a few times and they were ok but the last time I looked on his site he didn't have much except granny bait so it has put me off going if he's going that way as he did have some pre-decimal but like most thing they change and he might not have been seelling so changed to granny, but I must go get some 2x2's so see what he says :winkextra:
