Stunning coin Mate Makes my coin look like a real ugly sister :drooling:
Great pick up there oh my florin.
I thought the prices were quite soft with a lot of coins going cheaply, with some exceptions at the high end.
Thanks guys I personally thought I'd be outbid for it my max was $1200 but really happy no one else bid for it cause now it is mine all mine mwahahaha lol
Nothing from Numisbid this time around, but I did pick up a 1954 1/2d in MS64RB bringing my QEII 1/2d set to a MS64RB minimum grade and a nice 1960Y (not 1962 i had a brain fail) Penny in MS64RB from Pacific Rims online auctions on Monday night.
Nice coins OMF and Trout.
Nice coins guys
great buys
i missed out as a mate rang me to brag about his pf67 pickup and i missed my one and only want for the night :dodgy:

I noticed that as well, It was a pretty quiet night.
I hope it isn't like that when my coins go under the hammer:angel:
It is a great venue and I really enjoy it , You get what you pay for and it makes eBay look pretty ordinary:ok:
This arrived yesterday and I am very happy with it.
It is a huge improvement on the AU one I have :good:

Best example I have come across.
Damn, like an Outlaw in the night,
wasn't listed as an English.
Great little pickup:yahoo:
Lovely example, die crack through IN of IND.?
Quote from: 'Robster' pid='42067' dateline='1392673129'Lovely example, die crack through IN of IND.?
It isn't a die crack. It was some sort of gouge or ding on the die.
I saw that listing over a month ago. I was pretty sure others would spot it as well. A nice example and a good win.
This months auction starts soon i'm off for a while having a squiz :)
These are this nights wins :)

It's on again tomorrow arvo :ok:
I was wondering with the selling side of things about the minimum $8 per coin commission, what if the coin sells for $10-$20 for eg,the seller will get next to nothing,or am i misreading Walters Info?.
Quote from: 'Basil' pid='42798' dateline='1393454366'I was wondering with the selling side of things about the minimum $8 per coin commission, what if the coin sells for $10-$20 for eg,the seller will get next to nothing,or am i misreading Walters Info?.
That's correct (except that it's per lot, not coin), though most of the $10-20 coins are mine - typically when vendors come with cheaper coins we combine them to minimise this charge. It's there to cover costs such as photography, handling, etc.
OK,Thanks Walter.
Not a winner tonight, I bombed out badly on this months consignments :dash1:
it was either a slow arvo or Walter got the estimates wrong (which I seriously doubt).
NOT real happy with the results, Buy hay i'll just have to add some cement to my morning coffee and harden up and keep on trucking :ok:
I don't intend to sook away and hide because of one little setback, That just isn't in my nature :)
ALL is good , Can't wait for next month :wavemulticolor:
I did pick up this beauty tho so all was not lost :)
http://www.numisbid.com.au/Browse/1972_Five_Cent_PCGS_MS65/6846
Yesterday was a bit slow, today I felt went reasonably well. The overall average was above the estimates today and I feel the lots which sold considerably lower than the estimates today are more reflective of the coins selling too high in previous auctions rather than them selling too low in this auction.
I listed and sold 14 coins.
I bought 126 coins with the proceeds and still have a couple of dollars to come out of it.
That included a couple of pre decimal rolls that will keep me entertained for a few hours noodling through them :)
the prices I realized from my coins were well below their estimates but then again so were most of the coins I bid on, it all equalized out in the end and I walked away smiling :yahoo:
As I play the "Slabbing Game" to gather funds for coin purchases I would say I achieved this goal and cant wait for next Month:whistle2::yahoo:

(1) you can pay via bank transfer, Paypal or simply get it taken out of your sales.
The Coins are mailed to your postal address.
(2) Have a look on the Numisbid site and you will find a consignment form, Fill that out and send it with your coins.
The charges for selling are 10% of the sale price or $8 per item (Whichever is the higher amount)
Walter deducts the selling fees and if you have bought something the cost of your purchases and sends you the remaining funds via bank transfer.
thanks jim ,if i bid and win a coin then they can take the cost out of my paypal acc , or they will send me an invoice and i can do a direct bank transfer to them ? is that right .. ,, kel ,,

yes
last question , last night , last bid on page one , lot 6968 .
aust gallipoli 2005 m one dollar coin sold for $ 3.00 does the seller still have to pay $ 8.00 for that coin that sold for $ 3.00 ??
seams like a silly question to ask , but that is the way i read it .
unless you sell more then one coin combined into one lot .

Kel,earlier in this thread i posted a similar ?,it looks like the lower end coins are being sold by Walter so no fees for himself.

In theory yes but in general we combine low value consignments into single lots to save vendors on this fee. The low value items you see (such as 6968) are typically mine.
thank you walter , now i understand it better i may be game enough to try a few bids next auction .. ,, kel ,,

You'd want to get it slabbed first to achieve the best price, if you plan on sending many coins over to PCGS you'd be better of registering with PCGS directly, otherwise many of the PCGS dealers such as Eric will be able to send the coin over on your behalf.
Once graded, simply enter the certificate number in this form:
http://www.numisbid.com.au/Consign/Form
Fill in your details, sign it and forward the coin and form via registered post to us and we'll take it from there.
Not At all:dodgy:
Last months consignment sold for about half the market value, I thought that this was just a slow night.
Tonight I sold 2 coins and woe and behold , Half market value yet again :dash1:
NOT a happy camper at all, I can get 1/2 market value for slabs instantly from any dealer without the wait.
I feel like I am getting NEW coins on the market just so the dealers that bid on Numisbid can rip me off and make the quids that I should have in MY pocket .
I pay you 10% for everything I sell Walter so you are working for ME .
NOT your dealer Mates.

I'll send an invoice at the conclusion of the Saturday session. Postage is calculated at one unit of postage + 10% of the listed postage rate for each additional item.
QuoteI am pretty sure that you can consign with a reserve and that way, not have that doubt about the minimum selling price
I actually did that once and was advised that the coin "Wouldn't sell"
The reserve was less than an equivalent coin on the market and I trusted Walters judgment on this.
This trust has since been shattered and I have requested that the remainder of my consignments be returned to me. :ok:

This month's auction wasn't weak though - I was very happy with the prices. There were a few underselling coins and a few strong prices as always but overall results were very respectable. I honestly don't understand what trout's complaining about, I'm still talking about it with him.
That 1966 1c was RD, the RD DCAM suffix is written as just DC or RD in the PCGS verification system - both are equivalent.

Agreed, auctions are unpredictable, a lot depends on who is around on the day. Also, market values are constantly changin. At the moment, if you are into uncirculated coins that are not the cream of the crop you can get some real bargains.

What I actually said to you was "I don't think it'll sell at $500 but I can give it a try." You were asking for almost 50% above the Blue Sheet retail price - just because a dealer has advertised the coin at such a high price doesn't mean anyone will actually pay that much at auction. Nevertheless I listed it up with a $500 reserve and it didn't attract any bids. I don't see how that's misleading.

I went to $200 on that one, a silly price for an aUnc coin but the strike is "Proof like".
The coin is not a proof though.
so would a proof like strike not be worth it?
Quote from: 'serial' pid='45133' dateline='1395997050'so would a proof like strike not be worth it?
A proof coin is worth thousands, this one is a business strike and in reality only worth about $30-$50.
It is Bloody nice tho :)
For circulated coins, a grade is only an indication of the amount of damage a coin has acquired in its lifetime. While for most coins, value and condition are directly related, occasionally factors beyond its state of preservation have a greater influence on value.
E.g. I have a Canberra florin that's been struck on a polished planchet with business strike dies. The planchet was likely intended for a proof strike but either got mixed in with the business strike planchets or was discarded with them for other problems. Although it's only slabbed at MS63PL, there's no way I'd sell it at an MS63 price.
Likewise for this coin; It is by far the best strike I've ever seen on a Canberra florin and I doubt many people could claim to have seen a better struck up Canberra. There is no doubt that it is worthy of a premium over a normal aUNC piece, how much of a premium its worth can only be known once it sells.
so what your saying is they do get some good results its just a hit and miss market atm.
I IS a Stunning coin Walter, $300 was as high as I could afford at the moment, otherwise I would still be bidding on this Beauty :(
I am confused now trout
up there - you say the coin is worth $30-$50
And then the follow up post is that you finished your bidding at $200 or $300 ???
this that the gold coloured florin with all steps (in the link?)

I bid up to $304 and in hindsight I should have kept going :dash1:
Yes that was the one, It is the best struck coin I have seen in a business strike coin .
It went for a ridicules price if all you took into account was the grade But this is an outstanding example of this type and if I could have afforded it I would have taken it up to $500 without batting an eyelid.
At lest I know that I am NOT the only one out there that really appreciates a coin of this calibre :yahoo:
Whoever it was in Vic that bought this piece is most fortunate to have it :)
hammer price is often determined by the bidder's interest in the coin
all the book values and rah de rah go straight out the window when competition, eye appeal and scarcity of a particular grade sets in
wait so if I get this right you noted it was only worth $50 before the auction but then you said it was worth more after everyone couldn't bid on it?
Quote from: 'serial' pid='45239' dateline='1396069131'wait so if I get this right you noted it was only worth $50 before the auction but then you said it was worth more after everyone couldn't bid on it?
NO
I already said I had put $200 on this coin and that was my FIRST bid, Way before the auction started.
The $30-$50 is the book price for this coin in aUnc :ok:
The only people that would bid $300 or more for this coin would be Canberra Florin enthusiasts, IMHO the average collector wouldn't appreciate the immaculate strike on this coin Nor would they spend that sort of money on a coin with a far lower resale value.
I was just unlucky on the day that there was another collector that appreciated just how tough it is to get a Canberra florin struck this well, Regardless of the grade.
oh
I was thinking that it looked like one of those freak coins that is actually a variant.
like the 1934 com florin with nipples
Quote1934 com florin with nipples
WELL it is IMHO a gay mardi-gras design , Why NOT have the nipples on it :laugh2:
As far as being a variant , I don't think so.
This coins is just superbly stuck and that in itself makes this coin highly desirable ( at lest to me) :ok:
yeh tbh if I had seen flags on the poles I would have dropped $1k plus on it
but after what you wrote I left it alone thinking it was just over priced
starting to have 2nd thoughts now. it wasn't just the strike, the planchet seemed proof like in how it reflected almost deep cameo

If I saw "flags on the poles" I wouldn't have bid at all on the coin:)
Trust me it isn't a Proof coin :ok:
I posted the book value as a warning , NOT as a deterrent to bid.
If you dropped a grand on this coin and 10 years later you sold it and only realised $100 for it you would "Bag" me for not giving you the heads up.
If I lost money on this coin it wouldn't bother me one iota , the joy would come from owning it and having it in my collection.
I am a Canberra fanatic and I would pay well for this coin, I very much doubt that other collectors would.
So come on Mate , stop grizzling as I am having a hard enough time letting this one go at the moment :ok: :cray:
no, not upset at you at all trout
I am just wondering if this is one of those coins that somehow wasn't recorded and is actually a variant yet to be discovered. been reading a bit about the centenary florin and how several different dies where used and I am now on the look out for the next big discovery before it is found.
and this coin ticked all the boxes to be it. unless you have seen a better struck one before?
I certainly haven't

You could be onto something there Mate.
I didn't think of that, I wanted it simply because it is a beautiful looking coin.

Thats the first thing with coin collecting/appreciation,keep an open mind, you never know what might be out there. The Internet has really educated the average collector, self apponted experts can't get away with Bullsheet & misinformation that they have in previous years. The digital microscope has also opened up a whole new world for the hobby coin enthusiast. My 2c, i've learnt more about coins in the last 10 years than the previous 40.

up there - you say the coin is worth $30-$50

That is a real shame Mate because I would consider you to be a great asset to Walter in his endeavours .
If the job was local I would quit mine and be there in a heartbeat just to look at the coins that go through Walters hands and to pick his brains would be freaking awesome :yahoo:
Interesting. What sort of duties would be involved for your "employee"?
i'd suspect that it's a pack 'n post type of job goldie
a little record keeping - tick and flick the accounts paid then pack 'n post

and all with 100% confidentiality i'd expect
Packing and posting, photographing coins and listing them onto Numis Bid.

You can e-mail me through Numis Bid for the tracking number. Australia Post can be painfully slow sometimes.
oh I thought it was on your site somewhere. it took me 1 missed auction to realise that you actually had an auction room that I could go into online and I missed out on bidding on heaps of items!
I thought it was like ebay where the time just ticked down and I was watching the items with the initial bids I had put on, when the time ran out I thought I had won heaps of items only to check a couple of hours later and realise what had happened, it was so embarrassing
oh and email sent :)
thanks Walter :)

Well the flips I've received from Walter appear to be Lighthouse
as to them being Mylar, don't know but are not PVC.
If in doubt put them in Saflips .
cool thanks ford, I wasn't sure if I can put stuff in them for short term storage/transport. they feel good but all my coins are now safely in lighthouse 2x2 and ultra pro pocket pages for long term storage
They're not lighthouse, we get them from these guys:

Is Walter on here? Aparantly in my purchase history I bought a half oz gold nuggett coin but I thought I missed out on that one
Yeah I'm here, you did miss out on it - there's a little bug that causes coins to show up in the My Purchases list if you had the equal highest bid (you and #6403212 had bids of $670 but his came in first). The correct list will show up on your invoice which you can find by going to My Orders.
Can you combine it with that other coin I got in the last one?

Maybe it didn't sell that cheap.
estimate was $150-$190 yet Bluesheet calls it at $310 in this grade.
So what I paid for it may actually be the currant market value for this coin
Blue Sheet is $120 in that grade, you're looking at the penny value - this is a half penny. It would've been around $150 before this sale so the sale price brought it down a little.
Some coins will oversell, some will undersell - such is the nature of auctions - auction performance is best measured on the whole. While vendors may make losses on some, they make profits on others which usually averages out to an overall good result.
A lot of coins last night didn't make estimate.
Bugger, I though it was a penny, My 45y is crap.
Ah well I should pay more attention to what I am bidding on
Quote from: 'proof27' pid='55404' dateline='1406186980'A lot of coins last night didn't make estimate.
Yes, at the end of the day it is an estimate... Based on what I have seen most of the coins sell for close to the estimate when the market is strong... There was a 1952 Shilling in MS65 that sold for ~$750 last night. I paid $1000 a few months ago for a similar coin... That's life, ups and downs.. Bluesheet looks at the average price that gets impacted by recent sales... On the same token I have bought other coins for far less priviously and now they are selling as mush as $500 -$1000 more than what I paid for them... Most of the high grade coins go above the estimates whereas lower grade coins making far below estimate... It is simple economics of supply and demand... Everyone now wants MS64,65,66 or 67 ... No one wants to pay any money for the poor (I think it is not anyway) MS62,63 coins..
Good luck with today's auction folks !
I hope one of our Mob got that MS64+ Canberra, I pulled out at $500.

They need to run these auctions once a week - month is too long. :)
it's called ebay **giggle**
No eBay is for getting rid of junk so I have money in PayPal to buy on numisbid

I do feel more confident buying from numisbid than eBay.
There are many great sellers on eBay that i have absolutly no problem buying from.
The secret is Finding them and remembering who they are :)
I buy from Dealers, eBay and Numisbid and the common denominator is they are ALL "Online" as I have little chance of being able to visit a store in person.

:i_agree:
I buy fromy ebay a lot... at times ebay you get bargains ... ie member from here sold a 1943 S sixpence on ebay, it went for fraction of the auction price.. at auction similar coin would sell for $400 +.... so find your trusted sellers and go for it ...
I don't suppose anyone would like to share their secret bargain eBay seller list? :winkextra: As a beginner I don't know who is trustworthy.
The one thing I like about numisbid is the rough estimate range provided for each lot. I take it that everyone here subscribe to blue sheet? Is that a must?
QuoteI take it that everyone here subscribe to blue sheet? Is that a must?
A large percentage of members here are NOT subscribed with "Bluesheet" But if you are interested in buying or selling slabbed coins it would not be such a bad idea to subscribe :ok:
Bluesheet provides "Live" prices where the rennics and Macdonald's books are out-dated as soon as they are published.
If you want a cheap alternative use the books or do an eBay search on a particular coins worth.
A blueshhet subscription is NOT a cheap option but as far as value for money goes I am quite happy with my subscription :ok:

Yes so far I have stuck with slabbed coins, except for the newly released ones anyway. I feel it's the safe option - for me anyway.
Apologies, I think I am getting off topic for this thread....

What I have found is if you are after stabbed coins, it is very straight forward. You search ebay and find the coins, understand the going rate and purchase. Good thing about the stabbed coins is you can validate the authenticity by doing a certificate check on PCGS or NGC. Look at the pictures to ensure what you are buying is genuine ... Plan and simple... Hope this help.
Quote from: 'ausproofs' pid='55629' dateline='1406377087'understand the going rate
That's my problem. If I see a slabbed coin for $x on eBay - is it a good price???? May be I can get one half that price. There's only one for that year and grade so you have little idea if it's fair.
I have started a new thread on blue sheet for all my n00b questions. Don't want to get in the way of people celebrating and bragging their wins here. :D

I don't envy Walter with the task of packaging and posting all the items from that auction, it would drive me nuts.

My lots got posted today and it is normally 7-10 days from the Eastern States to my post office.
NO drama they won't "Go off" and they will get here when they get here.
Walter has done an outstanding job considering he is practically a "One Man Band" and there were hundreds of different lots to be processed , Paid for , Invoiced and posted.
All this is done whilst updating Bluesheet and looking after the NEXT auction taking images and writing descriptions etc.

The Mintmark is above the date and the Half Sovs are about the size of a sixpence .
The full sovs are about the size of a shilling :ok:
Yes there is a lot of satisfaction having coins like these in my collection because of the sacrifices made to obtain them.
They are nice but I have got more satisfaction out of acquiring the two Pagodas for my Proclamation set than the Sovereigns I got this year.
I may be a little bit weird but the History and circumstances about the proclamation coins makes them Far more interesting and challenging Than the Sovereign coins for ME personally.
thanks jim ,.. if I get over this problem
then I will go looking for I or 2 of them too ..

Ok now this isn't having a go at Walter so please don't think it is because you can get some real bargains at auction but you've got to be careful and if your like me and actively searching for the best deals around yous have got to start to do your home work so you don't over bid as two of our member had/have them for sale because I was looking at them for quite some time, Eric has a couple and PP had one but someone bought it in the last few hours. If I was going to bid on the 51 ms63 I google search to see what comes up as Eric's was $50 and PP's was $35 so I don't know why ya's don't suss them first to at least get a price guide for the auction as I have found both EXCELLENT to deal with but each to their own but just thought I'd tell as I thought about not as I'm bound to offend some but hey that's just me and I know we aren't all super rich :)
If anyone wants any help just yell out and I'll help as much as I can and ya's are lucky as I thought about buying them all but as I'm getting more into my proofs I don't worry but still try and keep an eye on what's going on around the traps and bargains of course :winkextra:
Oh and well done to the winning bidders, some nice coins there peoples :good:
Good point AJ.
This happens in most auctions though where people haven't done the research. Easy to get caught up in a bidding war, especially as the bid increments change.
I think the chat in Numisbid is great, but I'm surprised how much belief people have in the estimates.
If you get a coin for well under estimate, is it a bargain ?
Or, if you pay over the estimate for a coin (as I did) are you getting ripped off (as opposed to it being a strong result) ?

From my perspective the price you paid for your coin was a good result as I also have a PCGS MS63RB 1939 roo halfpenny and it would seem that there was a lot of interest in it
bump* coin auction today 7hrs

Mmm good questions as they are sort of hypothetical to start as they are only estimates and anything can happen on the day so this is where your homework comes in because if you were to go off a few price guides you really can't as some coins have a fair price range between books so you also have to suss things like completed listing and blue and green sheets etc and PCGS pop report depending on how full on you want to go and if you have to have the very best. I'm very happy with seconds as some top tear coins jump too much so for an eg I'm trying to build 56 and 58 proof sets and I have a pr66 on hold and it's a couple of hundred but to get the pr67 I like I'm lookin at a cool 1300 for the 3d so I think I'll be happy with my pr66 until I win lotto but then I'd be playing :winkextra:
Yeah even ebay as I have bid but also done homework and quite often people get caught up in the bidding war and pay more than what they should so I don't know how many times I've seen buy it now and gone to them as it's been a lot cheaper than fighting with someone that must have it and then sometimes even end up getting better deal anyway.

walter that request I made for some sort of a printable auction guide or sheet just became a bit more urgent. its to hard to navigate your site to prepare for an auction unless you restrict yourself to one or 2 items and this poor bidding by me is a good reason for me to back off on the auctions until I can get something I can handle and refer to like I usually would have at an auction

Do your research before bidding on any auction and be patient. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement in the auction chatroom before hand and in some of the Numisbid threads on this forum.
If you're looking to put together lower MS florin sets (especially 1950+) then MS63's come up reasonably often and fairly cheaply. I understand your desire to put your set together quickly but this is almost always a more costly and less satisfying way of doing so. If you're patient I suspect you could find a coin one point higher in grade for very little more than you paid for the 63.
I didn't mean to embarrass anyone and sorry if I did but just trying to point out that if you just have a quick 5 min look it can save you but like Mark said you must be prepared to be patient as well. When I complete my proof sets they will have cost me under 1K each with a bit of luck (except for copper, poop) and hopefully be worth double because I've taken my time but not having the money to buy straight away helps and also friendly dealers that let me pay off and if it wasn't for that I wouldn't be able to do it.
Remember too it's about the coin. You might a particular coin because it has eye appeal or a die crack or some die clash or toning or colour or is pretty in some other way. Another may have a carbon spot or a bagmark here or there or a water stain. Not all MS63's are the same, not all MS64's are the same. I have chosen MS64's over MS65's before, depending on what the coin looks like. A good pic will help you decide if THAT coin should join your collection.
I agree AJ, at times people get too hang up on the "estimates" and assume that how much they should pay.
Yes very true PP as I have bought lesser grade as it looked better, I think you get that more with the likes of pre dec proof as I prefer either all pretty or all toned but doing this is harder said than done and a fair bit of homework..so yes buy because you like it :) Oh and yes that's why I want more slabs as I have about 6 that are au58 and there's a bit of a difference with toning and different marks and some make me wonder how in the hell they even made au and the same with ms that shouldn't get au and vice versa as some au look like they must have only just missed ms so I suppose it depends on how busy they are and what sort of mood people are in so there's a lot that has an effect but we're branching off into another area sorry :blush2:
Yes too right aus, I can say I think the estimate of my rotated 20 is worth $500 to $1000 but this doesn't mean in reality that I will get that money but also means that it might go higher, just depends on the day and if your lucky enough to have at least 2 people that really want it bad well then it's :yahoo:

Yep, Thats true.. Auctions attract higher prices because lot of emotions goes in to bidding... Some coins are hard to come by and you need to pay top $$$ to get them... Where as others, you have to wait for the right time..

Not all all aj. I don't feel embarrassed one bit. Feel free to point out anything that I could do better (or more cheaply).
Did you really complete proof florin set under 1k??? That's bloody impressive. :good: I originally started out thinking I only want proof but realised quite quickly that would have cost me >10k! So I am trying to get as high grade MS as possible within my budget.
I have been very cautious about buying. Trying to limit myself to under 100 max to start Most like $50-70 or so. So even if I could have gotten something cheaper it won't be hundreds but in this case $10-25 overpaying. Having said that I am not depressed about the 51 fed. Quite looking forward to getting it actually. :P

If you need one for your Indian sets PM me and I will send you one when they get here :ok:
Yes did well there trout :ok:
thanks for the offer trout but I just hoard any indian ms coins I can get a hold of. I feel it is a good long term coin as the climate, heavy usage and local laws regarding non export of 100 year old items means supply will dry up sooner than later then all we need is demand to pick up
are you getting these graded? I think you could do well with them
Quoteare you getting these graded? I think you could do well with them
I'll have a good look at them when they get here and if they will grade MS64 or better i'll send em off .
I had a crazy day and ended up with all of this...
1945 6D in MS 65
1942 D 6D MS64
1946 P Shill in MS 63
1959 Shill MS65
1963 6D in MS66

All is Good mate, The seller would have appreciated the competition :)
did you see the 83 50 cent proof!!
wowsers!
I watched Numisbid and took notice of the results for an exceptional 1983 Proof set..
4 coins at PR70 and 2 at PR69, this set achieved a total of $5,690 on Numisbid .
It just goes to show how important it is to pre-grade your coins before sending them to PCGS.
Crikey I wish one of my Proof set submissions came out as well as that one .
Looks like the decimals are coming of age with a auction price of $3,403.50 for a PR70 1983 50 cent coin, Awesome result.
I don't know I bought a lot of slabs tonight that held free coins. anything under grading cost is good value to me

well what is the dealership about?
one of
Australia's most trusted on-line auction houses (house?)
affordable, honest & realistic pricing, [buy (?) and sell (?)]
numismatic expertise in World coins including gold, silver and bronze coins and the Australian proclamation coins, decimal and pre-decimal coins etc
consignments,
specialising in PCGS accredited coin bizzo,
I would expect a rare coin dealership to be about the unaffordable, (inaccessible to the average collector) true rarities like the antiquities and for the aussie market, out of reach coins like the 1930 proof penny and so on
Whereas your service is about making coins accessible to both the true blue collector and the specialist collector
Your service is about selling
accredited GENUINE coins, which some rare coin companies may not have been doing
Your service is trustworthy and reliable
Your service has regular on-line auctions
You are accessible to the customer - friendly, reliable
and so on :)
Investment quality coins that won't break the bank....
I like that one birdie!
Quote from: 'robbiegal' pid='60757' dateline='1412921882'Your service is about selling accredited GENUINE coins, which some rare coin companies may not have been doing
That was the most important thing for me, as someone who is new to coin collecting. It offers a safe purchasing environment without the fakes on other auction sites like eBay.

I sent out a lot of orders today
out of interest my postage cost was some $37. does that mean the order is going to be sent express post or still normal snail mail?
normal, you had two orders combined, if you were the the 40 slab one plus ungraded ones was put in a large parcel, all
mail gets a tracing number, had a new supply of peanuts, so enjoy the special packaging technique, you had 4 pages with the order, hopefully you get a speedy delivery, kim

Technically the description is correct as the 64P is the only Perth coin to grade MS65RD (no other year has a MS65RD for Perth). However there are 2 coins that are 1964P MS65RD. Also there is 1963P MS66RD out there.

It was the only 64P in MS65RD at the time of listing, we mentioned that another had been graded during the live auction.
The 1963P in MS66RD is an incorrectly slabbed proof (along with the MS67RD Perth 1/2D).
The last few comments above are getting a wee bit to technical for me.
thanks Walter
don't ya just hate that!!
great to see that grade on the '64 y
I trust that it was your coin
goldie
the mint state (MS) - rated at 65 is the highest grade for a 1964 Y penny in the red designation - for a collector of these years (the 1960's) like myself - it is the holy grail but it most certainly came from a mint roll - I totally doubt that it was sourced from a loose lot or even an album that was taken apart
so far I haven't even pegged that grade from my coins
but one day I will ....... one day
Wish you luck then.
I am like you with the decimals - I am keen enough to make it happen - I've pipped the MS 64 red twice for this Perth issue/year, I will get a 65 in time .. good things come to those who search endlessly (ha ha) and then actually send them to PCGS - that is also one of my missing links
What's the most expensive coin you've ever won on numisbid?
who care's???
that AVATAR is BRILLIANT!!
nah - I am a true blue so I just get the little sales
I am no high flyer what so ever

I was too devastated by the 1964 y MS65 RD not being mine .. all mine ... ha ha

a few things, but what really made me cry was seeing the ms66 72 5 cent go for $25 and not to me :( I would have paid way more for that coin but you roll with the punches.
what really concerns me is that one day I will need to sell stuff myself and I was hoping to use numisbid rather than the likes of iag or ebay. I even go out my way to promote them including the re-distribution of the mylars they send me coins in to other budding collectors hoping they will latch onto numisbid instead of ebay
however if I was selling stuff tonight I wouldn't have been happy with the systems bugs affecting my results and I truly hope Walter can iron the bugs out quickly. I am more than willing to volunteer to help should he need to run a mock auction.

Yes, thats true... some days you get good prices for the consignments... so its a gamble... what I find is when I try to sell things on ebay, no one wants it.. put it on auction, people go crazy...
I have a 1962 PR67 3D no one wants at the moment.. I will put that on auction soon.. then people will hopefully bid like they normally do... funny market !
problem you have is the last one sold for $276
I am guessing you expect more?
Yes, but not much more... almost all other times they go for over $450 + ... Other occasions much much more... just the day..

Spent so much last night but prices were good and bidders were far and few. Love the holidays, such a good time to get a bargain.
It's a beaut mate :good: but is that $22 all up or need to add the other charges?
Always plenty around if you have the money, I think "bargains" will be around for quite some time to come yet with the drop to the dollar and way the economy is ATM so buy big while you can and hang for things to pick up again.
I picked up a few bits and bobs on tonight's auction to update a few 1/2 pennies and fill some gaps in my 3 and 6 pence collection.
Looking forward to next Sunday night for a few more.
good on you
I didn't even realise there was an auction on tonight!!
our reminder gal didn't pop in!
that's because he gave me the can before Christmas
Quote from: 'Australian coin' pid='65987' dateline='1422247980'that's because he gave me the can before Christmas
I think a few of us knew this but your Mum asked us not to say anything, So we didn't.
All is Good Kimmy, Concentrate on getting well and everything else will fall into place.
sorry Kim
didn't mean to embarrass anybody
mum wasn't whispering to me!!
anyways, i think we all thought it was a bit much for you in your recovery phase
but you did a great job while it lasted!!
Going through the list of coins coming up soon in numisbid and some of them have "altered surface" in the description, what does this mean?
I could find any description of the term by doing a quick search on previous forum post.
Thanks again for you help.
It means something has been applied to the surface to make it appear better quality (it's a bad thing).
Thanks, when you say something, would this be like olive oil, baby oil, WD40 or something a bit more permanent like lacquer ( hope I spelt this correctly), polish or a sealer of sorts?

Please find the link below to more details around PCGS grades,
http://www.pcgs.com/grades/
Here is the explanation from PCGS - Altered surface 94.
Altered Surface |
This No Grade covers anything added to the surface of the coin to either "improve" its appearance or to cover marks. Surface alteration methods include adding: dental wax, putty, lacquer, nose grease, etc. "Thumbing" is the application of a putty-like material to fill in marks, scratches, and other defects or to haze over portions of the coin. Coatings (such as lacquer), while intended to protect coins, result in a No Grade because it is impossible to determine the quality of the underlying surfaces

PCGS aren't foolproof though and will occasionally let an altered
surface coin through
Thanks again. I haven't researched PCGS much as I'm mainly interested and my budget only allows for buying cheaper non graded coins for the time being. I still have heaps of gaps to fill in my predecimal collection.
Saying that I am looking for better quality samples as they come up in Numisbid and was again lucky enough to pick up close to 10 coins last Friday.
How long does it usually take for Numisbid coins to be sent and arrive to Sydney after payment has been made?
I purchased my initial lot last Monday but still haven't received the coins, not really concerned yet but hope I receive them in the next 1-2 days.
It depends, normally you get them within 2 weeks.. when they are in the post, you will get an email with tracking details.

Think Walter posts them in the order that he receives the payment. If you pay as soon as the auction is over you get them quicker. :)
Received my 3rd batch of coins from Numisbid today. Overall I'm happy with the service.
I'm enjoying looking through the catalogues and filling in gaps in my collection. As with all auctions you don't always win and sometime you over pay :scratch_one-s_head: but that just probably shows how easy it is to use Numisbid.
I'm trying to hold off this Sunday as there are some good coins coming up in later auctions.
I just logged into Numisbid and everything looks different.
I haven't had the opportunity to bid for a few weeks, When did the site change?
This was my most expensive coin tonight, At $40 despite the weak strike an MS66 shilling is always welcome :yahoo:
http://www.numisbid.com.au/Browse/1961_Shilling_PCGS_MS66/13113
I ended up with 14 coins 6 Raw and 8 slabbed for a measly $156.30 :dance2:
I abstained tonight, saving up for the next auction.
Arghhh! I forgot. Luckily there's not a lot of florins.

:D
I picked up a couple of nice Commemorative florins last night.
These are tough to get in anything over MS63 and IMHO are highly underrated.
Most of these coins have been stored as "Bullion" and as such most of them are pretty well buggered.
Where the 1927 and 1935 florins spent most of their time in Nannas undies draw the 1951 and 1954 coins mostly spent their time in "Junk Silver Bins"

http://www.numisbid.com.au/Browse/1954_Florin_PCGS_MS64/17534
I also picked up this little beauty.
Nearly 45 million of these were minted but only 32 have achieved this grade , Which is equal highest

Well done guys...
http://www.numisbid.com.au/Browse/1942-S_Shilling_PCGS_MS64/17187 cheapest TOP coin I have bought in a long time.... only 14 at this level and 4,000,000 minted I think its an okay price ....
Other new additions to my collection are,
1927 Sixpence MS65
1948 Sixpence MS65
1959 Proof 3D in PR66
2 6D's are not the best looking coins. .. I hope they look better in my hand....
Is it just Me or do other people only get a small window when you hit the "Auction Room" Tab.
I also don't have access to the Chat area :dash1:

I have the same problem as trout but I have an older version of internet explorer. When I just went into the auction room I can increase or decrease the zoom level using control+ or control-. I cannot however increase the size of the page which comes up when I click auction room. I click on expand but nothing happens. It does not particularly bother me as I can still place bids okay.
Cheers Dean.
Watch out for the bottom button when bidding.
I hit it by mistake last night , It DID throw the other bidders off though :)
I saw the $500 bid with my name on it hit the screen and I had a "Aw Crap" moment.
All is good I got that particular coin for less that 50% of its value and I have asked Walter to add it to my next submissions and list it for me.
Only managed to bag 2 coins tonight, I guess that's what happens when you bid before the auction and the price is low.
Lot 400 - 1916 m shilling for $10
Lot 415 - 1942 s florin for $10
They have some nice gaps to fill.
I haven't bought a banknote in years but this one took my fancy :)

It was a huge night last night and WAY out of my league, Some Awesome coins were sold for lots of shekels .
Tonight is a bit more trended for us ordinary collectors that don't have deep pockets :)
It is fantastic to see Walters site attract the high value coins and give Downies and the like a run for their money without the exorbitant sellers fees and commissions, Good for the Buyer as well as the seller.
Look out for a 1930 penny and a 1923 1/2 penny in the upcoming Numisbid auctions :)
1930 penny .... had one in my hands tonight !!! brilliant but waaaaayy too much for me .... would have more fun with a ferrari :D
Could have spent 30k on a 1930 penny earlier this year but bought
a new car instead
would have liked to have been able to zoom in on the 1930 penny

Zoom in function works for me ... try restarting the web browser.
I think she means zooming at beyond 4x, this is based on the original size of the image, there's no point in showing 8x zoom if it's based on an image that's only 4x as big. Usually smaller coins are more likely to have higher levels of zoom as they're photographed at the same quality but displayed smaller.
Is it possible to zoom in and display the full image?
Not through the site but if you need full images of any coin you can e-mail me for them and I'll send them through. We've restricted access to full sized images as we've had a few cases of fraudsters using our photos on eBay claiming they own the coins.
I forgot about this one and I picked it up in the Mail today.
Quite a nice Shilling graded at MS66+ and only 12 coins graded higher at MS67 :good:

Very nice :wavemulticolor:
Nice one stevo, good pick up.
Thanks guys. It's been a while since I've blown the budget on a nice coin and they
are usually a gamble but this one was a sure thing
On this last Numisbid sale there were some fantastic prices for buyers.
Unfortunately for sellers/consignee's it wasn't so "Flash"
Luckily I was both a seller and a Buyer, So what I lost on the swings I picked up on the roundabout.
I just Love a good auction , It gets the blood flowing and it brings you back to reality as to what your coins are really worth.
The price lists in books and on various internet sites are all well and good But it is the prices achieved at auction that are the TRUE indicator of a coins value at any given time.
The Market will always decide :ok:
Numisbid is a Great venue for collectors to acquire those sought after coins at the current Market price also for collectors to sell their coins and Walter puts a massive amount of time and effort holding these Auctions.
Keep up the good work Walter, looking forward to the next one Mate :yahoo:

+1 for that Mr T.
Next Auction there are some really nice 3D's coming up... I am not in to 3D (yet). However some of the coins coming up are very hard to match :wavemulticolor:
I forgot all about this one and was a nice surprise in the Mail.
It has been cleaned of Verdigris but the coin itself is in great condition and is a far higher grade than my best 1925 coin in my collection.
8 pearls and a full centre diamond :)
Shame about the "Shiny" bits but I still like it :ok:
At $62 this wasn't a bargain it was a steal.
Walter graded it as EF or Better, I recon AU50-55 .
PCGS will say AU Details

Looks to be an AU55-58 coin to me :)
My consignment of nearly 100 PCGS graded coins that I sent a month ago has finally arrived on Walters desk (I hope ,still waiting conformation from Walter) Now the Poor bugger has to image and list them on Numisbid.
What a great way to sell coins, NO imaging required NO typing out descriptions No dealing with some of the "Retards" that abound on eBay and best of all NO Packaging an posting required by Me :yahoo:
sorry to lumber you with this Walter But you do a far better job of it than I could :)

well I just had a look at numisbid
and I am sssoooo disappointed in the three red 1964 y. pennies NONE look red!! is it the photos? or are pcgs all over the place with the colour designations. I would NOT select any of those coins to send off as red.
really - it just isn't fair if they fluff around like this with the colour designations

My guess is that they are in old holders.
PCGS standards have changed over the years - they are harsher today.
These coins got RED back in the old days but today they would get RB.
Also possibly these have toned in the holders over the years.
the holders look maybe as if they are the newer ones
the toning may be true
but these reds have only popped up on the charts in the last couple of years
I got the first 2 reds in that year & grade so I know the exact starting point for them
Robbiegal:-
Could you go back to Numisbid and have a look at the 64m MS65RD Lot119 and have a gander of the obverse.
Tell me what you think if you would.
The yellowish colour coming through my screen suggests the coins are receiving a little bit of stray overhead Warm White flouro leakage, I've done it myself.

the melbournes should always be a knock out red - it is the Perth's that are tricky
that almost looks like some sort of a die clash - one of which I have never seen before
unless it is a type of reflection Fordie - there is something as well at the back of the queens head

Two of the coins are mine (hopefully not for too long), One is definitely very red (for me at least), the other is also red, but not bright as the first one. They are in older holders.
cheers
I have added edits to my post Aus
I am not 'picking' on anyone
I am simply commenting on the photos that I am looking at and trying to ascertain what PCGS describe as red
as you all know I have hundreds (no - thousands) of 1964 pennies and my personal challenge has been to find reds in the perth series
it is just disappointing if I see coins that I'd think would not make the designation in the slabs
and they are terribly hard to photograph in the slabs

No worries RG, Absolutely no problems at all.. At the end of the day we all love what we do... Its a hobby, you dont have to change anything in the posts. If something needs to be said, it should come out the way it is meant. As a side note there are some ink marks on the coins as you may have seen...
Aus I just added the links to the coins to my original post and fixed up a typo

no I doubt i'd ever grizzle about a Melbourne 1964 mate
they come in the most beautiful gold reds, red reds - every colour known to the human eye
the perth is tricky as they (in my opinion) have about a 98.9% toning rate so a true RED is the holey grail for myself & I don't just buy rolls to fast track the process. I find them in lots, dealers books and the like . It makes it a challenge! But I am being superseded by people who get the rolls and post haste the whole flaming lot to pcgs.
I'd be curious if that coin pictured from numisbid was graded in the USA or the new outlet in Hong Kong - I am curious if the graders are different or something. Maybe as fordie said that coin shave toned in the slab but mine that were graded in 2011 certainly haven't

hahaha..
I think the coins graded in HK has a different cert numbers ie 800xxxxx vs 309xxxxx ... You can check that by clicking the PCGS logo found below the coin information in numisbid.
oh ta
I will stop grizzling now!!
just that the red designation can double (or more) the sale value for a coin so it erked me
ho hum perhaps I need to get a life .... a new one!! ha ha
This 1964 Perth half penny is in an older type slab and is graded MS64RD :ok:

yeah
and i'd reckon it's red too
the tone is even - has carbon flecks
but overall it would be 95% original mint red
that salmon red is still original red
this one got a red designation
(http://www.australian-coins.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10035/1964_Penny_MS64_RD_MINE.png)
this one got red brown - now I reckon it has less colour variations than the one I posted the part pics of
I am just a little frustrated at what constitutes the red designation with pcgs
I thought that toning striations precludes a RED designation - that is all
(http://www.australian-coins.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10035/1964_Penny_MS65_RB_MINE.png)
I noted it's only MS coins that get a colour as AU don't. Oh and proof, unless it's from the unnamed aussie lot that didn't put colours on proof and I found that very odd, but then again not really knowing what they're like :dash1: :winkextra:

I think you are correct Mate, The "Relief Flag" description on the slab threw me for Six.
Yes, I noticed that too, I think PCGS just failed to give it the correct designation.
I bet that had your heart pounding though.
There I was thinking I did something stupid and sent the wrong coin in, But it was PCGS that made the stuff up and misattributed the coin .
It probably will only sell for a couple of dollars because of PCGS's Stuff Up :dash1:
Perhaps Walter can make sure the description says it?
I noticed that there a 5 2000 Millenniums on numisbid and the 3 (normal) ones are all MS67 with an upper estimate of $105, whereas the incuse AU50 and AU55 have upper estimates of $120 and $300 respectively. Hence Walter has estimated it as being an incuse.
Fingers crossed for you Trout!

gee the estimate is bloody low .75 to $1 and here I was thinking all mine would at least cover grading fees :( so be interesting to see what they go for as I have 3 x 50, 2 x 53 and 2 x 55 and have another here to get done that should go somewhere between 53 and 55 with a bit of luck.
But funny about the description so I checked all mine and they all say incused so maybe who ever did the submission wrote the wrong thing on it and should have put incused.. but yeah pretty odd all round.

Thanks, sent it over to PCGS today.
It isn't very often Walter lists a PCGS coin and describes it as being "Under graded" .
This coin is graded MS63 and looks to be at least MS64, Walters description was
QuoteAustralia George VI - 1943-S Florin, Lustrous and with better surfaces than the grade implies, PCGS graded MS63. Est. $36 - $48.
From the images on Numisbid I tend to agree, I will post my own images when the coin arrives.

Yes tonight's auction was a bit second rate, started off with a good room full bidders then heaps left the table.
Walter has been having some problems lately with the numisbid site, I hope he sorts it out before the next auction.
Sorry about the stuff ups last night, we've compensated affected vendors with the difference between the Blue Sheet price and the price realised. I'm still investigating what happened, but it looks like an unrelated issue caused excessive load on the server during the auction. I'll need to confirm this to ensure it doesn't happen during our next auction.

This isn't the 1st time this has happened, it has all the hallmarks of a targeted DOS (denial of service) I would suggest speaking to your isp about allocating bandwidth/cpu usage to registered users during auctions and locking out the site to un-registered users while an auction is active.
It seems that someone may be trying to adversely affect your buisness

I was not there so couldn't see what was happening ... So not sure what was happening ... In saying that Numisbid site is unusually slow all the time ( not during auctions )... You might want to track performance and see what is happening ... It could well be a DOS attack. However I would start at looking at your own server configurations before jumping in to conclusions .... Good luck and hope the issue will be fixed before the next auction ...
I've checked our logs, it was due to excessive load though not a DOS attack. The browse auction pages were running extremely slowly (5-20 sec per request) so it looks more like people repeatedly refreshed the page as it appeared not to be loading rather than foul play.
I've created a fix for the underlying issue slowing the listing page so that should fix the problem.
Numisbid has had a total "Facelift".
I'm having a bit of a "Squizz " now, So far it looks great :good:
I just had a look, home page is looking very good. However "my numisbid" section is a whole different story... needs some UI/UX work... happy to provide some feedback to Walter if required... may be it needs some testing ...
I sent a few coins to Walter on consignment and I am sitting here refreshing the site as he lists them.
I imagine that it would involve quite a bit of work taking images, cropping them and then adding them to the listing database with a description and estimate of each coin.
At a minimum of $8 per coin I think I am getting excellent value for money as I sit on my Bum and Walter is doing all the work for me
Beats the hell out of using eBay by a huge margin :yahoo:

Hey Walter,
Here are my comments.( I have used a Samsung tablet to do this review)
My Bid List
1. Item information is spread very broadly on the screen, this is impacting the UX. It would have been better if you had the information in a table format or similar with the coin picture on the right had side with bid amount, estimate under the picture (or similar). This would also allow you to put larger pictures utilizing the real estate.
2. It would be bettre to have the bid amount and estimate bigger (more dominant) as those details are the heros on this page.
3.I can not see my maximum proxy bid anymore this is very important to include as well.
4. You have put tabs on the top for multiple objectives. You should have a navigation bar with grouped objectives. Currently you have a place bid button, not sure what function that button is there for. It would be better to have a single tab with all bids. Outbid items should have an indicator to show it is an out bid item... having separate tabs make it harder for the user to see what they need to know in one screen ( one click too much )...
5. If possible you should have the tabs to be bit more dominant. (Ie . Similar to chrome tabs, essier to navigate)
6. There was a tab previously for items missed. That is not there anymore.
7. Look and feel of the main menu (one on the top right corner) as well as the function changes from page to page.. the menu users get on the home page is different to what you find on the my numisbid page. Inconsistent experience.
8. Better to have a good navigation bar on the left hand side or on the top that is present 100% time (ie ha.com, smh.com.au etc). Easier for people to find what they want.
These are some of comments. I will have a nother look on my laptop later... Please take this as constructive criticism.
Thank you and hope to see some nice coins soon on your site...:wavemulticolor:
a printable auction list is all I want, something I can download in pdf and write on when I have time in the car in preparation of an auction
I scored a nice 1911 Brit Trade dollar even tho is cleaned, a couple of Tongan Gold coins, half a dozen commemorative Russian proofs and an Indian 1943 1 anna in MS63 as an upgrade for my AU50 coin in my type set.
There were some really nice coins up for auction including some Brit farthings in quite high grades and I am looking forward to the next World coin event :)
I also noticed that there were absolutely NO hiccups with the new software/upgrade on the numisbid site this time and everything went as smooth as silk :yahoo:
I watched some of the auction tonight
some rather aggressive bidding by one buyer - and it paid off too
I missed out on the ms63 1938 crown :(
I think it was more of just showing who has the money ... some of the coins went way over the estimate... more importantly there are coins on sale cheaper elsewhere at the moment... I am happy to wait...:dodgy:
oh
well it was interesting none the less
I agree, very entertaining.
The next World coin auction is on again 22-May-2016 15:30:00 AEST .
I enjoyed the last one and picked up some nice coins to boot.
Only another 4 months to wait :dash1:

dittums
I was able to log on at the tail end of tonight's auction after missing Wed and Thursday's auctions.
I picked up some nice raw decimal proofs that the grand kids will love, 4 of the little buggers have started collecting now.
I also picked up a nice honest circulated Canberra florin.
The young uns are doing pretty well getting decimal date sets from everyone's change and I have been supplying them with the MSO coins.
I have given each of them a PP album with 20 pages in them and will have to get another 4 shortly.
They raid my penny bins and my junk silver bucket every time they visit and they always ask me if I have bought anything new and they Love examining my new acquisitions.
I am probably spoiling them a bit but if you can look into the big blue eyes of a 10 year old and say NO then you are a better Man than I am Gungadin
they all have done a pretty good job of writing the details of each coin on the 2x2 before adding them to their albums and I thoroughly
enjoy looking through what they have been able to collect so far :good:
My motivations are pretty selfish because I think I get just as much enjoyment as they do from their collections as they progress :)
I'd be a happy little vegemite if I had even one youngun' interested in coins, so you are 4 times blessed. There's no one following on from me with any interest at all, so my collection will probably be cashed in at the Bank or end up on Ebay.
Sort of makes me feel 'what's the use of continuing' with it.
QuoteSort of makes me feel 'what's the use of continuing' with it.
I do occasionally buy coins for friends and family But 99.99% of the time I collect purely for my own enjoyment and satisfaction and rest assured one whiff of the grim reaper and I will sell everything so that I can indulge myself with my other passion of fishing the different rivers and bays that abound in this great country
I don't think of my collections as a "legacy" that I have to preserve and pass on to future generations.
They are simply a result of my selfish indulgence in a hobby that I enjoy and would have no remorse whatsoever about selling them to another collector when the time comes :ok:
ditto
I have accepted that I collect for myself even though I originally started because I wanted my kids to have some material history
luckily I have a hubby who is also a collector so we both enjoy the hobby together which is great
one son dabbles a tad and really gets a kick out of our collecting so he'd cheerfully line up on an inheritance day and the other siblings would cheerfully give the lot to him to look after
I have 8 grown kids and 25 grand kids and not one is interested in coin collecting. In the last year or so, I've thought of selling my collection. But, I'm inflicted with a disease called 'Numismatosis', which in layman's terms, means buying more coins without really needing them when one wishes to sell their collection.
Due to my disease, on Saturday I'm driving 460 km (280 mi) round trip to a very large coin show in another state. Wish me bad luck (to buy nothing).
There is only one cure for this disease, but I want to live til I'm at least 100.
ha ha
it's a bit like that movie groundhog day
Quote from: 'Goose' pid='84068' dateline='1454127637'I'm inflicted with a disease called 'Numismatosis', which in layman's terms, means buying more coins without really needing them.
Wow! What are the chances of us both having the same disease? :winkextra:
Well, my trip to the coin show was successful. After 280 miles (460 km) round trip and $26 U S in gas, I came home with a $2 'Token'. The 'Token' was an 1852 St George 'Bank of Upper Canada' and the reverse - 'Bank Token' and 'One Penny'. Ah, a rare token I thought...HA! I read that these tokens are very plentiful. Eleven TONS (I calculated...620,000) of these tokens were found in the vaults of the bank in 1867 when the bank failed. They then were sold for scrap and melted, but some uncirculated examples are around, evidently not all were melted.

Its not a big problem I assume it will go away soon.
There is another World coin auction on again next Saturday on Numisbid. :good:
I think that everyone that bid on todays World coin auction walked away a Winner.
At most there were only 13 people in the room at any one time and without the aggressive bidding of Bidder #1027016 it would have been a very Booring event.
There were some gorgeous coins on offer and most sold under estimate as there weren't that many bidders , This is unusual as the last 2 world coin auctions were pretty well attended.
I picked up a couple of Russian proofs to add to the ones I got last world auction .
I also picked up a couple of nice Brit Proofs including a piedfort Silver 20p , a Canadian PL Dollar, a restrike Thaler with the fat chick on it, a coin from Sierra Leone and last but not least a 1964 penny in MS64RD all for under $200.
I had a few coins sold on consignment and didn't do that well But that's just the way the cookie crumbles with an auction sometimes, All is good and you can't win them all.
Anyway if you enjoy World coins and you forgot to look in on the auction, you missed out on some nice coins at bargain prices :)
I enjoyed the auction and am looking forward to the next one :)
Well done trout, now seems like the time to buy as ALL markets seem to be down, think people buy less around chrissie and elections as they worry about money and their job. But I've noticed even feebay doesn't have that much on offer and FB has more crap than good stuff but this also seems to be the trend for the last few years so looks like it might take a few to build back up to what it was but then who knows as things might not pick up for a long time as the economy is #@&$*! and doesn't look like it will come back in a hurry.

It may be that you tastes have changed and the "Ordinary" stuff no longer interests you like it may have in the past.
I still remember enjoying buying coins for my collection without any regard for the grade or if it was cleaned or not , I wouldn't have known the difference back then anyway:)
I am now far more discerning and finding what I am now looking for entails sifting through masses of eBay listings that would have caught my attention previously But that is OK with me .
Quote from: 'trout' pid='89083' dateline='1464020192'It may be that you tastes have changed and the "Ordinary" stuff no longer interests you like it may have in the past.
I know what you mean, and you're no doubt correct to a point. In my case I've spent many years looking for various 1922 pennies that probably don't generate too much excitement among others to be honest. In earlier years I was finding the different varieties at a reasonable rate, even a couple of examples that I believe to be extremely scarce were identified over this time albeit in very small numbers. As each of the varieties were sourced I would then hunt for one in higher grade (EF of better) and eventually most were attained in those grades, all except one particular variety which on the rare occasion it turned up was gfine at best but never in higher grade. This particular coin hasn't made an appearance now for some years which for me confirms it's rareness, and I've also noticed the less scarce varieties don't appear in better grades as often as they did in the past.
All this may very well be due to sellers holding back better coins in a flat market, but of the hundreds of coins that are listed lately, that particular elusive example is never to be seen in any grade. Getting off the track a bit now i know, but I also believe the vast majority of sellers wouldn't be aware of the extremely scarce coin I refer to and therefore wouldn't be holding it back, so for me confirmation enough of it's rareness. :)
Auto, could you post or pm a pic of the one you are looking for, in case I can assist? (Along with a description so I know what to look at).

I hunt through eBay on an average of 4 times a week looking for nice Canberra florins and I have been doing this for years.
Over the last couple of years I have noticed that they are becoming more expensive and finding a truly nice "Raw" coin is getting particularly tough.
Many dealers/sellers have raw coins priced the same as a PCGS graded coin and expect the buyer to take their word for it as to the grade.
There are also the regular cleaned coins in the mix with the overgraded coins.
I do manage to snag one or two coins a week but finding that extra special Canberra is getting harder all the time.
This is where Numisbid comes into play.
There is always at least 1 nice Canberra each auction and I have won a few ripper coins at these auctions including a unique Proof Like specimen :yahoo:

Group 2, Just the one variety for this group - Upright 9 Common width date, 9 leans slightly to the right. Left side of foot on first 2 aligns at right centre of denticle 9. Left side of foot on last 2 aligns at centre of denticle 15, which is the same as for the common group 1 coins, but the upright 9 makes this coin extremely scarce, and rare in high grade. Only found with flat base reverse lettering and London obverse. As found, accounts for approx. .08% of total 1922 Penny mintage. BTW, the two reference lines at the 9 radiate from the centre of the denticle directly above H in COMMONWEALTH. The reference lines at the left edge of the foot on each 2 radiate from the centre of the coin.

Turns out I did win it, I got my invoice this morning. $20 was a bargain until you add the $8.50 for postage but that's my own silly fault for nodding off during the auction. I was also interested in a 1933/2 over-date penny and a 1938 florin. Not to worry, I assume there will be another auction next month.

I got an email from Numisbid today regarding a 1971 10c I bought last month.
The coin was received at numisbid without any letter as to why it was sent.
As I don't cross check what is in the package I get from Walter after an auction I failed to notice that this particular coin wasn't there.
It just goes to show the honesty of whoever sent this coin back :yahoo:
So, Numisbid made a mistake and sent your coin to someone else?
Incidentally I was at Pacific Rim the other day and Chris had a whole bunch of 1960s and 1970s 5 and 10 cent coins on the counter, all ex rolls but in plastic bags. They were lovely coins and I was a bit envious and distracted by them. He was putting them in 2x2s to sell on ebay. What a mess, there was coins everywhere, while we were talking he was bumping coins onto the floor and tossing rejects into a plastic bucket in the corner.

The World coin sales are usually quite slow as we haven't got such a big world market yet, consequently there are still heaps of bargains to be had.

Good call.. yes, it is not hard to figure it out... at times I stop chasing a coin if I know the other bidder is a heavy hitter... there is no point bidding against them as they only stop when they win the auction..:dodgy:
In my price range there is no point getting into a bidding war. Its not like I'm ever going after a top of the pops coin. I will usually return serve once or twice but if someone keeps coming back at me I bail out. Plenty of coin fish in the sea in which I swim.

i got a couple of 6d's too
i was :kez_11: and :drooling: watching the half sovereigns

The competition on those half sovereigns was phenomenal though the 1881-S was perhaps a bit on the cheap side. I can't get over how beautiful the 1864 was - I know trout's going to disagree with me here but the Sydney mint series is clearly Australia's most beautiful coin design.

I do enjoy the Sydney Mint design it is very easy on the eye, uniquely Australian and it is an Australian icon coin although out of the reach of many collectors.
However My Beautiful Canberra Florins are within the reach of EVERY collector :yahoo::laugh2:
I really like the way you can pay your NumisBid account using PayPal with a few mouse clicks. An email comes in with a link to "My Orders" which takes you to your account where there are links to pay by various means. The PayPal link takes you to your account and when you navigate back to NumisBid the account is shown as paid. Meanwhile another email from PayPal arrives with a receipt for your payment. It takes about 20 seconds without entering any amounts or account numbers.

The 1913 MS64 Shilling that was part of the Fenton sale just sold on Numisbid for $7,000, pretty much double the auction price on the Fenton sale.
Maybe the entire collection would have done a lot better if it was consigned through Walter and he slowly fed them into the market instead of such a massive influx of high grade coins at once :good:

Massive blunder to sell such a collection in that way.
It came at the end when everyone had already spent their money.
Also pics and descriptions were poor.

I am kicking my self for not buying the coins from the Nobels auction... If I did that, I woud have nearly completed my 6D set... Today the same coins went for higher prices..
I got the 1952 and 1951 6D... others went too far..

There have been 2 great collections dispersed in the past year (Benchmark and Fenton). Which do you think was the bigger blunder with Benchmark being in NGC slabs (that were often then put in PCGS slabs and resold at a higher level) or Nobles overloading the market?

Regardless of which TPG graded the coins, in both sales there was an oversupply of high grade coins which had a downward effect on the auction results.
After both auctions coins have been resold at higher values than were achieved at either the Benchmark or Fenton sales.
I do think that prices achieved for the coins in the Benchmark sale was adversely affected because the coins were in NGC holders because NGC graded coins are "Problematic" for PCGS registry set collectors in that they have to be regraded by PCGS to be added to the sets.
so
collectors are grizzling because the individual coins in that collection POSSIBLY sold for less through Nobles??

I am certain that collectors are Not complaining about being able to secure some great coins at bargain prices.
They are however interested in how and why these "Bargains" became available also the reasoning and the tactics employed for both sales also the "Roll On" effect that these recent sales have had on the coin market :ok:

figured that
just wanted to see if i was right is thinking just that

Sorry to interrupt... but is there a difference between the buyers on numisbid and buyers on Noble?
Quote from: 'kchan1111' pid='98532' dateline='1474515339'Sorry to interrupt... but is there a difference between the buyers on numisbid and buyers on Noble?
There is a Massive difference between a Nobles and a Numisbid auction.
Nobles have a Buyers fee AND a sellers fee, Numisbid only has a 10% sellers fee and bidders don't have to vector in the sellers fee when bidding and will normally bid higher accordingly.
Also Walter doesn't "Flood" an auction with hundreds of top grade coins at the one time.

Yeah I get that. But what about the buyer mix? Any difference? Noble more dealers may be?
I am not sure if Noble is responsible for flooding the market as such. The seller is ultimately responsible is it not? Dr Fenton is the one decided to sell up all at once. Money is probably not an objective for him. Just bragging rights and attention.
I would think that a good auctioneer would advise the client as to the best way to approach any sale of such magnitude.
Either Fenton ignored that advice or it wasn't given, We will never know either way :ok:
At Nobles you're at a competitive disadvantage if you don't bid in person. As a result it's mostly Sydney buyers and dealers that compete effectively. At the Fenton sale many collectors traveled interstate to participate (probably the fullest I've ever seen the room in the past 3 years) which did result in many strong realisations. They didn't however need every date and whenever a coin came up that none of those collectors needed, it went to a dealer for well under market.
judiciously articulated
love it!!
I back Numisbid and PCGS over Nobles any day because of the superb quality pics.
Forget the grade.
The pic is the real issue for me.
Nobles pics and descriptions should be taken with a grain of salt.
Absentee buyers can end up with a top coin or a worthless hairlined coin.
And no returns thankyou.

I agree with you on that... I have bought their so called FDC coins to get PR62/63/64 coins...
But it is very common with most auction houses .. I have bought Gem or Superb Gem coins (as they call it) to get MS64 coins at best. Thats why I try to stick to my PCGS or NGC coins...
A lot of "Old School" dealers consider MS67 to be FDC Still :dash1:

I picked this one up on todays auction.
By the look of the coin it is NOT a Wedding Set coin and MS68+ is a quite remarkable grade for a Business Strike.
I am not sure if the grade is deserved, I will have a good look at the coin when it arrives.
I can see a mark just behind the Queens lips on her cheek, So I am not sure if there are any other problems with the coin.

Yes I saw that, a nice coin in one of the older slabs and that small hit on the queens cheek looks to be the only thing that held it back from grading higher. :good:

missed out on placing a bid on a coin :(

I haven't received my account for the two florins I won on Wednesday.

I won a couple of coins last night and looked at the invoice this morning. There is no postage charge included, is postage free now and if so is it registered? On previous invoices the charge would have been about $9.

I think that it all depends on when the coin was listed.
Maybe this particular coin was listed a few months back and has only now made it to auction and has the old valuation attached to the listing.

The Blue Sheet prices in the NumisBid listings are based on an more updated algorithm which we'll be implementing into the Blue Sheet shortly. The higher Blue Sheet sale price is due to a $150 eBay sale.
Regarding postage, that's no longer automatically added, we calculate postage manually after the sale rather than automatically to eventually make way for giving buyers more choices with postage options (which we haven't done yet).

I'm probably just missing something, but in numisbid is there a way to search for particular coins or sort upcoming auctions into coin date or coin type order?
I think that feature might have been recently removed.
Thanks for that :good:, I thought it used to be there but couldn't see how to do it now.
We've had to sacrifice a few features in order to speed up the site, the previous version was starting to get very slow. We'll work on improvements in the coming weeks.
Thanks Walter. I can just imagine what it's like when you are trying to allow the auctions to perform as fast as possible while some users are doing other things that would impact the database and web servers unrelated to the auction itself. (Such as retrieving and rendering other queries).

Your invoice should've been attached to the $8.50 email, we only send one invoice out and that's sent at the conclusion of the sale. The amount listed in the email is just the balance owing but the attachment shows the full invoice.

i prefer the old layout
1) as the text size and layout is larger and much easier to read
2) the new with the screen refreshing and disappearing is disconcerting and unable to keep up with the bids!! and if my bid has registered.. no dilly dallying allowed !
