Pity it wasn't legal tender, as that would take it from novelty status to collectible for me...
Australian Replica $50 24ct Gold Note in an acrylic display
https://eshop.ramint.gov.au/Replica-50-Gold-Note/711005.aspx
:laugh2: ...... The price tag is pretty hefty. A few people have something similar to them on ebay for quite a lot less, saw them the other day. (lots of demons .... see below)
Not that I'd be buying ...... a bit tacky to me ....

Y'got
that right! These things are an outright con. They have bugger-all gold in them, and should be described as 99.9% plastic!
So is the seller. He's got 7 negs in one month. Becareful.
No worries Lacey, I don't think anyone here would be into them .... I was just making the comparison of the $175 RAM version VS the $10 ebay one, seemingly a similar thing (apart from the acrylic display).
Sure does seem to indicate what level of potential markup has been applied!

Heh, yeah. You can buy these things in bulk for as little as 4 cents each.
And here's an interesting blog post on the subject:

Good article Fulvio, I was wondering a few of those points myself (ie: how little gold they would have to have in them for the price).

Gold is an amazing metal. Its so ductile, you can draw or beat it down to impossibly thin forms, from wire used in microchips you can barely see, to leaf only a couple of atoms thick.
It still retains its properties, but it weighs nearly nothing. Cheap enough to be an edible ingredient in fact.
