Post by: ausjack on January 11, 2014, 01:13:58 PM
geebus it's getting bloody hot and we haven't even got the heat wave yet :( So please all the people in the effected areas take good care and try and stay cool, even though I hate it, go window shopping in the aircon :good: just take care all and if you have older lation please check on them, bad times ahead if this sort of thing keeps getting worse :(

Crikey Trout!

I thought it was hot here today, perhaps it's just the humidity. I've been out a couple of times, came in pretty soon thereafter, but it's nothing on that!

It quite often gets over 50 C here because I live on a ridge of Granite and it takes a while for the sea breeze to get here (IF it gets here).
The Easterlies are the killers here.

Not a day you wanting to be changing tyres, Trout.
Not quite so hot down here in Perth.
I put a thermometer outside and it's reading just
over 40C, maybe 41 or 42 at most.

Anything over 40 in Perth is pretty awful with all that heat staying in the roads and bricks of the neighboring houses night time wouldn't be too flash either :dash1:
At least here if the sea breeze comes in with a vengeance there is nothing to stop it between me and the sea :)

As I don't have air con, you're right, night time can be worse.
You jump in bed and the sheets feel like they just came out of the clothes dryer.
I'm not far from the ocean, but I don't think the Freo Doctor will be blowing today.

Lets hope for the elderly that they are wrong.

Take care folks when the temperature rises and keep an eye out on ones neighbours.   PLEASE.

I think you could be right, Robbiegal.
Not even sure we have a metre.

Hottest night on record for Perth last night.
29.7C at 3.00am this morning.
Then heated up to our max of 39.7 at 9.30am this morning.
Title: RE: too bloody hot
Post by: robbiegal on January 12, 2014, 07:36:29 PM
ouch that is hot - I see on the weatherzone that you guys got 41 today

we had something like 35.2 today
getting major kitchen renos done early next month so for some weird reason the builder had our wool roof insulation taken out on Friday for batt replacement (ie a month before the reno is done - in the middle of summer)
I shall be on the hooter tomorrow about getting the batts in ASAP in soon as the heat coming through the ceiling to day was phenomenal

We have 39 predicted for late this week ( a few days of it)
Title: RE: too bloody hot
Post by: Triggersmob on January 12, 2014, 09:10:58 PM
when we had our house built, they forgot to put the batts in a few of the cavities.
I still think they missed the room I am in now, but there is no way to see up there.

just got home and reading the news
Perth Hills has taken a shocking battering with fires - 46 homes lost and uncertain if more than one person has died

I have nothing to complain about!!
the old breezeair is on full bore (auto mode) and it is comfortable come this time of the afternoon

we are to cop the high temps tomorrow onwards - I hope that is all that we end up getting - fingers crossed

Yes robbie, this is a couple of suburbs away from our house. We are used to the threat of bushfire but this one was shocking. Several people missing. A fallen power pole is being blamed.

Fires are now contained, but not controlled.
50 homes now destroyed.
One loss of life from heart attack.

We are always getting fires in the hills, but still these people do not prepare properly.

hell guys
sounds horrid

we have the evaporative cooler (but no roof insulation as the builder had it taken out for the reno IN 3 WEEKS TIME# - Robbie is not impressed but better than before we had the cooler

I pulled out the window aircon that has been sitting in the garage for 4 years - wouldn't go - not happy - it was my 'back - up plan'

enrob - get yourself down to a covered swimming pool

we went tonight and have been going a lot lately

even if you just float around and cool off - the main thing they reckon for you to do is to get the core body temp. down & drink heaps of water, they are even saying on the radio to go to the shops where there is air-conditioning

I agree I think it's what you do or can do in the heat. I didn't feel it that bad today but I took it easy. A few weeks ago it was 43 deg or something and I had to drive out to a hot part of town and park in uncovered parking and walk to meet someone and I almost keeled over and died. Just as well there was a hot fireman to rescue me.

Today I stayed indoors and when I did go out it was to the air conditioned shops. Mark told me that's what Adelaidians do when it gets this hot. I am from the Snowy Mountains.

Hehe... gotta hand it to them for their sense of humour though.

Closest I got was Woomera and Andamooka. If you head out to Lake Torrens (warning, its only jokingly referred to as a 'road'), you will find a very humourous sign erected by the local fishing club. Keep in mind this is a dry salt lake 99% of the time. I'll have to see if I can find the piccy of it... not sure if it got converted to JPEG while I had the chance. :(

how do those guys keep cool?

maybe they are just happy to be alive and don't fuss about the other stuff - like dying from heat!!

one of my favourite pub is the lions den hotel in Nth QLD on the way to Cooktown
even when it's stinking hot you can cool down in the back beer garden/pool room
between the sandstone walls and a small fountain it is really cool
I haven't been there for years but really appreciated each visit - especially the one after we'd been stuck for hours in the with 2 blown tyres, 4 kids and 3 chickens (oh no Rob they aren't rosters, yeah right) after leaving my mum's place in Cooktown & heading back to Townsville
but I always always carry heaps of water and food when we travel so at least the basic life's necessities were covered while we were broken down

I sure do RG. I usually check at least daily on the Australian and US sites to see what's going on.

Working on a theory that provides an advance indicator to a 'thumper'. (Still only early days on that one though).

There's not too many of you left. Mr Joyce is seeing to that.
Qantas has been downgraded to junk status just a day after the airline announced the axing of 1000 jobs and and warning it could fall to a $300 million loss in the first half of this year.

I reckon he set out to do exactly what he's done to Qantas
the writing has been on the wall from the first day he started with Qantas

bloody disgraceful in my books

Couldn't agree more. Talk about self-inflicted injuries. I'm just glad I never bought any shares, and I feel sorry for those who did.

I have just got back from a job in the Simpson Desert where the temps ranged from mid 40's during the day and mid 30's during the night.
I got home 10.30 last night after travelling for 10 hrs
I was there for 6 days and it was bloody awful :dash1:
I was looking forward too cooling off a bit at home and I looked on the weather site and it is going to be in the mid 40's here today as well :cray:

poor fish

we have cooled down here starting last evening

I grew up in the isa and thought i'd never been through really hot weather such as the over 40 degrees - funny how memory fades!
I found here by day 3 of hot weather I was getting used to it so it is a bit like riding a horse

doesn't mean that I don't hate it!

my veggie pots are surviving which has surprised me after the big wilt they had on day one of the heat wave

keep cool mr fish

I Have just started to cook up a batch of Chillie sauce using yellow habanero's.
I have to wear a gas mask in the kitchen because just the fumes burn my nose and make in run like a tap.
Now THAT'S "Too Bloody Hot" :laugh2:

roof ceiling insulation does work

the builder had the bigger half - probably about 60% house redone leaving the kitchen dining lounge no insulation for the refurb

with the breezeair full bore - the lounge today is 23 degrees - outside 30.6 (the lowest it went without insulation was 24 degrees)

the back bedroom is 20 degrees and all the other bedrooms & study as well ( I bought  a little room thermometer from dick smith yesterday)
I almost need a cardi right now!
