Title: 1850's Tasmanian Tokens
Post by: black sheep on January 02, 2014, 08:06:43 PM
A couple of 1850's Tokens from Tassie.
Both were found by me when out metal detecting some time ago. They were unearthed a long way from home.

Thomas White of Westbury, Tasmania. Token minted London. Transported 1827, sentenced expired 1834. Began a grocery business in 1845. shame about the hole and scrape. - love the kanga & emu.

RS Waterhouse, Hobart Town. Token thought to be minted somewhere in UK. Born Tasmania 1818, son of Methodist priest. Began business 1839 as a general printer, expanded into drapery and ironmongery. Interesting image of a Victorian clad child in a walking frame.

cheers

Looks more like a child used as a puppet than a child in a walking frame to me :dodgy:
