Title: Tellers playing Santa
Post by: Fulvio on December 30, 2013, 04:08:28 PM
So, I finally went for a walk to mail off those boomerangs to the UK.. and since I was heading that way, took about $50 of roadkill to the bank.. which she immediately mixed into a sack of coins being sent to Armaguard. Claimed they no longer separate 'mutes' out.

Anyway, as I was there, I asked if they had anything interesting, like paper or copper. And they did.. a couple of kilos of copper! But it wasn't counted. I said fine, go ahead and add it up, I can wait.. after all, my last sack of copper was a freebie, so I'm miles ahead.

...and she looked over her shoulder, shoved them across to me and said 'take them'. :yahoo::yahoo:

About a $30 haul at face value.. $4 or so of aussie copper, $10+ in Euro cents, $8-ish in Swiss Francs, about the same in UK pounds, some US cents, etc, etc. Biggest coins were a two pounds and a 5 Franc.

I may have to visit this branch more often, eh? :)

What an excellent result Fulvio ..... geez and my bank wouldn't even give me some paper notes that were sitting right in front of me ..... you are blessed!

It all comes down to remembering to ask each and every time you walk into any bank. Even one yes in a hundred nos makes a huge difference.

This is not the biggest sack of freebies I've ever had... though its the most valuable, thanks to the high value world coins. Remember this stuff is just worthless junk and a waste of valuable time to them. So you're doing them a favour, and its only the real sticklers who will make your life miserable. And those I get even with by dumping my roadkill on and giving them more work. ;)

Now if only I could get them to give me free paper notes or gold coins... that would be awesome, eh? :)

I have heard of people getting gold NCLT at face value from banks.
Would have to be pretty rare though

The six $200 gold coins, (Koalas and Charles and Di), all got from banks at face value that I have.   Still looking for more.

I have had a couple of $200 goldies at face from two different banks. I think most tellers are clued enough to know they are worth well more so they buy them themselves.
