What are your pet hates regarding eBay as a buyer or a seller?
As a buyer I think that as a soon as I pay the invoice I am entitled to feedback instead of waiting until I have received the item and left feedback myself.
Once I have paid (always ASAP) my part of the bargain is complete :ok:
As a seller I hate buyers that take a week to pay, Crikey they don't get a pie and sauce from their local deli and pay next week for it and think nothing of it (unbelievable)
Then you get them buyers that email you wanting cheaper postage and you do the right thing and send it unregistered , Only to have a "item not received claim from PayPal" (dodgy bastards) and you loose the lot :dash1::dash1:
This is the thread to vent about eBay , let it loose you mob :good:
we recently had some wacko who was aggressive and abusive because we didn't immediately leave feedback when he paid for a coin - got the e-mails when the coin was still in transit
it was the weirdest messages I have ever encountered from a buyer
in fact I made a report but nothing came of it
we have only ever left feedback after the coin has safely been delivered, the customer is happy and then leaves feedback - our feedback is on automatic feedback after feedback is left
I dont' get what is the problem is?
feedback is about a satisfactory sale - not just about being grateful that someone has coughed up the dough - we buy things everyday - it is simple commerce - but being fully satisfied with the transaction is another matter
Biggest peeve is that ebay take no notice of reports of dud coins.
Recently one seller sold a bunch of chinese duds for thousands.
About $10000 worth altogether.
Laughing all the way to the bank no doubt.
Was reported many times and ebay did nothing...
Got a negative feedback the other day because a buyer didn't receive what I posted
10 days earlier because Australia Post lost it.The buyer said I didn't respond even
though I responded within 1/2 an hour and they were really hostile. What a mongrel.I am really pissed off

I totally disagree with the practice of " wait till I get good feed back and I will do the same"
A buyers part of the sale is DONE as soon as they pay :ok:
I personally leave feedback as soon as I can when the buyer pays the invoice , Just common courtesy and the buyers appreciate the honesty and become part of your repeat bidders.
It is impossible to leave negative or neutral feed back for a buyer now anyway:angel:
I have sold over $40,000 worth of stuff over the last 5 years and have 1 neg and 1 neutral feedback comments from 881 sales.
So don't be scared of giving feedback to buyers as soon as they pay Mate .
it is good business sense , Like saying "Cheers Mate see you next time" even if you DIDN'T get what you wanted for the item you had up for auction, It is the return bidders that do eventually get the price you want by their competition for what they know is an honestly described item.
Feedback becomes an irrelevant issue with these buyers because they know it comes automatically when the bill is paid. :good:
I just looked at the site to see what people are looking at and I noticed a "Guest" was looking at this thread, is it Mark in "stealth mode" or has someone broken through the firewalls of the site ?

Sorry to hear that Mate, Some people are impossible to please no matter what you do.
I hope you added this clown to your "Blocked Bidders" list :)
not sure how much we've sold over the last 8 years but between the 2 of us our feedback is over 2,000 (both buying and selling)
and i'm happy enough with how I leave feedback and generally don't have any issues except for the odd nutcase and sadly it's always been small time sellers who have been the problem children
if some nutso wants to up his feedback by being intimidating & abusive then I don't want the sale or his abuse
intimidation and bullying is downright unacceptable and I immediately block any ebay bully - I don't need their custom - i'm not desperate enough to tolerate that sort of crap

Unfortunately there will always be an unreasonable buyer out there that will ruin your good reputation before you get a chance to respond. It's just the way it is
yeah
this guy was a total wacko
it's downright scarey when they get going (well, it is to a sooky la la like me)
anyways, 99% of buyers and sellers are good fun to deal with and I really like being an e-bay trader
it's high on my retirement plan so the last 8 years have been the practice years
wot is this about?

I am probably the laziest seller when it comes to feedback. Its probably something i should improve on. It comes more from laziness rather than waiting for the buyer to leave feedback first.

my only neutral was from a seller and I had even replaced the 'cleaned' coin from, mind you an average circ penny set after he left the neutral feedback
nasty guy that one - super quick to leave the neg & not contact with me
I reckon that a lot of them do it deliberately
like little school children being catty in the playground

so you don't leave immediate feedback as well?
I think some sellers have it on automatic with payment
I wonder too if it's to re-assure the customer that the seller is around and keeping an eye on the sales
but really it's just an automatic setting in the selling manager
I find it a bit impersonal

I am starting to think that "Numisbid" is the way to go, trouble is you can only sell "top shelf "there.
eBay is and always will be the "Seedy" end of the coin market and everyone needs to be able to deal with the odd ratbag, That's just the way it is.
Personally I would NEVER sell or buy a top end coin on eBay :ok:
I always leave feedback after my customer has left feedback for me. That way they have confirmed receipt of the package and are happy with the purchase (best case I assume that). I guess that's my indicator that they don't want to return the item for whatever reason which is always an option for them.
My count of bad feedback is 2. One buyer was a rival seller who was out to be nasty form the getgo. Another wanted the entire box of rolls from a multiple listing for a sum under $10.
I know of one seller who was naru'd last week for selling counterfeits.

Yep,it seems a game for some bored buyers,i've been on Ebay Oz since just after it first started and always put a slip in with all sales saying full refund if not happy but still occassionly get the Ratbag who wants to cause trouble or milk you for a better deal.So far i've avoided negative FB but got a neutral,he refused a refund and Ebay wouldn't remove/change FB, for a set of Coins he got for a bargain price.
Oh what about the buyer who emails me and asks me to use extra packaging as rolls are prone to breaking in transit. HELLO RED FLAG. What do you know the roll broke in transit and I was forced to refund all but face value to a buyer/seller who breaks rolls and sells individually. Has also done to at least one other seller I know.
So far it's the ONLY roll ever to have been broken/damaged in transit that I have sent!
I probably sound very agro about that buyer
but one of my fish had died
the installation of the screens going in was a stuff up
and then I get this moron who was abusive and weird from the get go
I even sent a polite (all replies were polite) e-mail and said - send the coin back in the unopened registered envelope for a full refund
buyer has PRIVATE feedback as well!
he left positive
anyways, he's now on my complains and blocked list now
grizzle grizzle

I copped a neg and a neutral from the same buyer because I wouldn't do a part refund and insisted that if he was unhappy simply send the items back for a full refund (including return postage).
To me it was a case of blackmail and I won't have a bar of that.
Can you PM me that clowns eBay username so that I can add it to my "Blocked Bidders" list PP.
our happy customer
coin bought on the sunday
posted on the sunday
2 days later and having had no other communications except the buyer leaving a message about this being his buyer ID in the paypal receipt
coin is still in the aussie post van on it's way
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disclosed to you that this is a buying site for our little selling site: t********1770 and don't understand why I should ask for feedback to be left after a easy fast transaction like ours. I hate begging for something that I'm entitled to-good feedback.
Regards and good wishes,
Danny & Helen
my reply
----------------------
Sorry Danny
Do you want feedback? Happy to leave feedback for you. We just wait for the customer to be happy with and received the purchased item (via feedback) before leaving feedback (we have it set up on automatic after feedback is left).
cheers Karl
at the point I was happy to give the buyer a green star then I got this almost immediate reply
------------------------------------------------
No need to say sorry your worship Karl, obviously customer satisfaction is not important to you. We purchased 4x1925 & 4x1946 on the weekend and you were the only seller that didn't leave feedback for a sale that every seller wishes for. Maybe I should have considered that we are dealing with someone with the might and rules of BHP or the Packer Group and their administration systems are too complex to access leaving requested feedback for such a little customer just to keep them happy.
I am sorry to have wasted your Lordships time and feel very grateful to meet your acquaintance :)
Kindness like yours is rare and a breath of fresh air.

The coin was purchased on the 1st December and posted the 1st December.
We always just wait for the customer to receive the coin, be happy and then they leave feedback, then we do.
We are treating you no different to the many hundreds of buyer that we have sold to.
You can return the coin in the registered envelope that it has been sent in for a full refund, if this is such a serious issue for yourself as a buyer. Just label it return to sender at the post office.
Some sellers leave feedback immediately and others wait for the customer to let them know they are happy via feedback and that is how we have done it for many years now on e-bay.
I am sorry that you seem so angry as no ill intentions are on our side of the sale, what so ever.

strange person in my books
As soon as the funds are in my paypal or bank account I leave feedback, simple , easy and stressless :ok:
it works in perfectly with the way I package up ready to post as well.
As soon as payment is made I package the item up and list the tracking number on eBay and leave feedback.
That way the parcels are "Good to Go" and all I need to do is hand them in at the post office.
I can then keep tabs on each package via the tracking number and if it is taking too long to arrive at it's destination I email the buyer and ask if there is a problem, keeps them happy and minimises the risk of getting a "Item not received" dispute being opened :good:
I had one bloke email me thanking me for reminding him of his purchase as he hadn't been to town for a couple of weeks and had completely forgotten about it.
The days of being able to leave neg or neutral feedback to a buyer are long gone so I can't see the drama of just doing it as soon as the item is paid for :good:
So at the end of the day it is far better to just leave feedback as soon as payment is made by a long shot, That way there is NO need to get into an email fistfight and loose a potential bidder in your next sale :ok:
If that's your system and it works for you then good on you. I usually don't track sales after they're in the AP system, there are too many and I count on my buyer to ask if it's been too long. I do give everyone the tracking so they can look for themselves which saves me checking up.
I sent replacement packages twice a few weeks ago after a long delay and the items did eventually turn up. I then talk with the buyer, they have always been good.
So more etiquitte, it's bad when someone creates a new id to purchase all the BIN's of similar items when their auctions (of similar items) are due to finish. That's slimy.
I leave feedback if and when I feel like it. That buyer of yours Robbie is a nutjob. I hope you've added them to your blocked bidders list.
We wait for the buyer to leave feedback before leaving feedback and include a printed note with the item saying ;
"Thank you for your purchase.
We do appreciate your custom.
Please leave feedback and we will know the item has arrived and we will leave feedback too. If there is any problem, let us know first; so we can investigate.
Jeff and Jenny solution2852"[/b]
Seems to work.
And, as a buyer I usually leave feedback on receipt. Always leave positive feedback although my comment may not be positive. If I don't leave feedback, as a buyer, that is my de facto negative.
I personally think eBay feedback system has a lot of flaws but, it can make for interesting reading sometimes.
OK I sold some coins yesterday and have to travel for work tomorrow, I will be at a remote Minesite without the ability to post anything.
All the other buyers have paid and their coins are in the mail .
I have one buyer that has yet to pay.
Do I simply post the package and list the tracking number when he pays or do I wait until I receive the funds then post (This will mean an 8 day delay in postage) due to work commitments.
This to me is an unacceptable delay and I would not be happy if someone did it to me.
The package is only a $65 lot and I have dealt with this buyer in the past without problems.
I am thinking of just sending the coins and trust the buyer.
What are your thoughts?

I tried to get the Missus to do it for me a while back and she sent everything without registering them and about a week late :dash1:
Didn't I cop some flack over that debacle , in the end I had to send a postage refund to everyone also an apology .
Luckily they were all repeat customers and I didn't have any dramas :ok:
I think I will just send it, That way I won't stress over it and anyway I consider my reputation is worth more that a lousy $65 .
I am pretty sure that the buyer will come good and I do like to have faith in the basic honesty of most Australians :good:
I made a mistake a while ago and posted the coin to a buyer who hadn't paid
my mistake
he sent an e-mail saying he'd pay late
then bought another coin
still hasn't paid for either
I put that down to my error
I guess that a more honest person would send the accidently posted coin back
- but you know, that buyer who was all nutso (the one where i posted earlier) about the feedback had bought off us twice before
and never a drama and both parties did the feedback thing when items were cheerfully received
so even past dealings is no guarantee that it will all go the same way again
but it's your call

Too risky.
I agree with Emu, there are a lot of people out there that you might think you can trust but when it really comes down to it ( unless you've been dealing with them for years or know them personally ),it's money & money makes people do funny things.
This reminds me of a mule i bought from a lady in WA,she sent me a message next morning & said it was in the post,as the bank was'nt opened yet i had'nt been to pay yet,as soon as the bank opened i was there paying it because fortunately i'm honest.
I sent the very nice lady a message explaining that she really should'nt do this & why.
It was good to know she looked at my account & thought she could trust me but it's a risk i would not take myself unless i knew the person well or had a fantastic history of dealings.
I had a similar situation a few years ago. As a lot of members know, I will chase to the end of the world any coin that I would like to own. Through a contact in Sydney, I was informed that a 2000 HMAS Sydney "S" VIP Folder was available. I informed him that I would buy it. The next I knew, postie arrives with the said article and I hadn't even sent the money off to pay for it because I was not given the account details. The details of the account was inside the package with the VIP Folder.
I paid up immediately and the seller didn't know me from Adam.
Some people are so careless in this world me thinks. I could have been anybody with no morals and kept the folder and not send any monies.
All worked out in the end.
Quote from: 'Goldseeker' pid='36623' dateline='1386544509'I could have been anybody with no morals and kept the folder and not send any monies.
Funnily enough, I've only ever been screwed by people I knew well and trusted. Strangers have always done the right thing so far.
All is good was posted this morning and payment came lunchtime :)
