I have received coins from Melbourne and even Tasmania in less than a week :yahoo:
Seems that Aussie post is doing a better job of it lately :good:

Don't get to hopeful there the last two packages I ordered were woefully dealt with. One was given to the wrong person (because the first and last letter of the last name were the same not at all joking there that was literally the excuse they gave) and the other was just left at the door! and for registered post that is really really poor.

I think they have good days and bad days lol, a friend only received some coins that I sent with tracking only yesterday after me sending it 10 days ago but on the other hand, I had a customer receive an item the day after I posted away. Both persons were from the same postcode so I have no idea what happened there lol..

I do an Australian post survey, I receive mail & have to report each day as to what I have received & the date it was posted.
Each letter has a number which I have to write down & then enter into a web page.
I get $12.00 a week & every quarter I get a direct deposit placed into my bank account.
I have used this money in the past to buy mint sets to break up, thank you A.P.

BUT DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!!

I do surveys all the time at http://www.pureprofile.com/au
it can be time consuming, but gives me a few dollars to spend on coins.

For an organisation that size and the number of items handled I think AP does a good job.
Everyone loves to bitch about the very occasional mishap -even me; I love to tell about the box of crushed chinaware my wife received complete with tyre pattern across the middle! But it is rare for someone to notice the mostly good service as being noteworthy.

Overnight (regular post) service is common between here and Sydney which is just as fast as the advertised Express post service.

I suggest some game lifting is desirable with the tracking system and simplification of rates and options is well overdue -all the recent "simplifications" of the system have actually added several layers of complexity to many postal transactions.
One Post Office near here has just introduced a trial "postage only" counter to avoid the bottleneck caused by customers banking, bill paying, ticket purchasing, passport applying and such like. That could be a good game lifting initiative. Or, being of cynical bent, maybe I should call it a "clawing back to where they were years ago" move.

Quote from: 'JeffH' pid='37114' dateline='1386992049'Overnight (regular post) service is common between here and Sydney which is just as fast as the advertised Express post service.

Overnight should be the norm between any two points in the country. Have a look at FedEx's operations, and especially their hub operations. OK, sure we don't have a central AP hub at say Alice Springs or Bourke, nor do they use a fleet of dedicated air freighters, but the same principles apply to road and rail.

The bottlenecks here are at the ends of the movements anyway. Staff screwing up at the source and destination mainly. The trunk routes are pretty much best practice with the tools they have to play with.

Well, after giving AP some praise earlier I might have to reconsider!
My Maccas arrived today; correctly addressed and stamped from PPH. Postmarks extremely faint but looks like 9 or 10 December.
That's at least twice what AP says is expected delivery time from a capital city area to a country area interstate.

Now, another negative.
Just now posted a large, high value parcel to the Ukraine. Express Post International with insurance -postal charge $267.05.
Want to let recipient know tracking details but...entered item ID for a result of "No events currently found."
I saw the barcode scanned and the same ID is on my postal receipt.

Sent an enquiry to AP asking about this and enquiry confirmation  page starts "Thankyou for contacting Australia Post. We are presently experiencing unusually high demand for online support which is affecting our normal response times. We apologise for this inconvenience and will be in contact with a response to your enquiry as soon as possible."
Funny, it has said that every time I have made an enquiry in the past. I am sure management is not too thick to know what the remedy is (well, reasonably sure). So I assume they are too penny pinching to improve the service, which has a direct result on customer satisfaction level.

Now I wait to see if they respond within two business days, as promised -that would be the first time they have ever met this promise with me.

Same here Jeff mine arrived today but 1 week is quite reasonable
considering that 10 days from a capital city and 2 weeks from Hobart
would be normal for me.I've had stuff arrive from England in 7 days and yet it takes up to 10days from Melbourne. Now that should raise a few eyebrows

Maybe so but Australia Post says "To other states between metropolitan areas of capital cities and country locations   3 days". Domestic delivery times (http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/domestic-delivery-times.html)

Maybe the real problem is not the delivery time but the fact that they promise delivery times that they very rarely meet.

I had a registered package sit at the post office for 2 weeks, they hadn't told me about it (no card or reminder card) and I had picked up another package during that time (don't they spot the fact that it had the same name and address?).
Only found out because I followed up the tracking number for the waylaid item. Package contained about 25 ounces (ASW) of silver coin so I was annoyed.
They also lost another package in early November, I have buckleys of ever getting it.

I just posted 2 x pacific dawn models ships to kent in England

 ships were $ 35.00 ea  =    $ 70.00

I wrapped them both together and sent by air mail

 postage was $ 85.80  plus  $ 9.60 insurance  total $ 95.40

 total all up  $165.40 ..

sea mail  was $ 46.40  + same insurance , a lot cheaper but took 3 months to get delivered , so I was told by the post lady ..

total weight was  2.025  kgs

part 2 of this story carries on today ,
this guy in  KENT  in England paid me $ 165.40 , by paypal as he said he would ,ok  ,that was the total amount I told him .
2 ship models plus postage  , that's what it cost me , plus a few trips to get it weighed in town , then back home to wait for payment  before I post to him .then a big job to wrap them up good because they are fragile  ,,, now I just went to my account at paypal and I have been hit with a bill of $ 6.92 because he paid me by paypal , so now I am out of pocket for $ 6.92 . so my question is do I email him and ask him for that amount or do I just forget it and go out with my losses of $ 6.92 ..????          ,, kel ,,

Well, I just came across this. Letter products and services guide (http://auspost.com.au/media/documents/letters-products-services-guide-may13.pdf#page=1&zoom=auto,0,595)
Now you have no excuse for lodging non-complying letters (I suggest that is probably a large proportion of letters posted).
No suggestion of lifting their game here but that exercise must have kept a team of shiny bums employed for many months!

Does it really need 57 pages to define letter requirements? Note the internal links so you can easily jump to the cross-referenced sections; and the mostly useless index -first three terms I went to look up aren't indexed.
MADNESS

That would be a fairly long sentence so I will give you a tit-bit I found -relevant to non-documents, I think.

Letter post is losing a lot of money. So, what is AP CEO lately quoted as as saying?
Yes, they are going to reduce the service -maybe three days a week delivery, maybe no home delivery, maybe, maybe, maybe...sounds like a "test the water" exercise to me.
What a great business idea! Lose money on a service so reduce the service to to ensure it will lose even more money.

Stand by for promotion of PO boxes to avoid the problems.

I know this is a Government mandated service and price is set to ensure it loses money. So, when will the government subsidise the service? My confident answer -never.

oh clever
they do the audits
AFTER they announce the slice and dice

I hate to see jobs go

we constantly have salary rationalising where I work and 'productivity' agreements
maybe if they consider those moves they might tighten up the internal budget and maybe save some jobs

parcel post makes a good profit & I can't understand why they don't combine both revenue sources when talking about aussie post profits and  losses

anyways, if enough people lose their jobs aussie parcel post will have less work coming in as well

we need workers to keep the economy ticking

Less service for same money or same service for more money! Take your choice. Australia Post plans three-tier mail delivery (http://smh.digitaleditions.com.au/OLIVE/ODE/SMH_DAILY/LandingPage/LandingPage.aspx?href=U01ILzIwMTQvMDkvMDU.&pageno=Mw..&entity=QXIwMDMwMQ..&view=ZW50aXR5)

Funny, but a search of Australia Post website didn't give me anything about this. I am surprised...NOT.

Got a birthday card in the mail for my daughter today from the grandparents, 70c stamp, over thickness and larger than small letter size and there's a stamp on it saying underpaid postage paid by the sender. I'm guessing a letter is awaiting them with a 70c (the underpayment) postage charge and a $5? fine.

Does anyone know what that fine is? I was googling around and I don't think it's that much. Petty really.

I sent away 18 packages a couple of weeks ago and 4 of these have gone missing.
This is the first time I have had a problem like this.
They weren't scanned in at the receiving post office and have simply vanished into thin air.
NOT a very happy camper at the moment :dash1:

I always put a tracking sticker on before I take them and wait at the counter to see they have been scanned.
I suspect trout will be doing the same hereafter.

If a parcel goes missing or arrives damaged you can still make a claim even if the parcel is uninsured. Australia Post has the discretion to pay compensation but you have to make a good case (proof of posting is a start) and keep up a barrage of questions about the progress of your claim -I think the "squeaky gate" syndrome applies here.
I did receive nominal compensation once in this situation. Heard later, unofficially, that an employee was dismissed a little later and the spate of missing parcels subsided at the particular post office. probably good supporting evidence for my claim although I didn't know it at the time.

Trout! you never leave a registered post item with Australia post until they have scanned it! its what you pay for. I have stood in a post office and demanded they scan a package in before I would leave. it got me dirty looks but I assure you it is better than the alternative which is them losing the item!

I haven't had many problems with Australia Post at all but I have just discovered what "Express Post" means. It means guaranteed next day delivery in the same city but if not.......then it could be well over a week. I bought something from Adelaide a week ago and it still hasn't appeared here in metro Perth - not really "Express" but, as I discovered in the fine print, within the rules......

Yes it is a bit hit and miss. That is why they did away with platinum post bags. They had to many claims as they were guaranteed next day delivery

because a lot of post offices still have old stocks of plat bags. I know of one in Subiaco (where I live) have has a box of them and they are especially easy to find in non metro areas.
they are not making new ones but they honour the t&c's on the old ones.
kind of like old stamps. the will honour them so long as they are not cancelled

Sometimes mail eventually turns up. An hour ago I got a letter from England. Had a label on the back saying insufficient postage so diverted from air mail. It was some threepences I won on 21/7 so must have been a three month boat cruise.
Even Aussie mail can take 2-3 weeks so with Brisbane and Melb being over 1000 miles apart the snail mail it might just have gone on a slow truck.
I doubt the name would have caused it to go missing, otherwise my name (middle eastern tongue twister) would get lots of mail into trouble. Are you sure the buyer isn't trying it on to get both the item and his money back?

Unfortunately there is a chance it has been received as Neal said and they are just saying not yet received. That's why I register all coins valued at $25 + as even some of the honest buyers might be tempted to get a non delivery refund. After you lose a couple this way you'll get a bit suspicious

took AP 3 days to deliver from one side of Canberra to the other

so it took the customer 2 weeks to get his item

Recent purchase on eBay took 8 working days to travel just 15km. Conveniently the seller never checked the item in so they'll blame AP and I bet AP would blame the seller for not getting a lodgement scan. You can never win.

Hello,

Try to send something overseas, and look at the cost. I can buy an SD card reader from China for $1 with free Post. If I had to send it back for warranty, I am sure it would far more for Post alone. They used to operate with economies of scale, now Email has reduced that. If the price keeps going up, they will lose more customers and need to charge more again. There are already Courier companies that are cheaper, and the AP big boss is paid more than he is worth. Technology has favoured Telstra when the PMG split up.

I may be showing my age here But I can still remember when a telegram was the Fastest means of communication and letters in the mail were the standard way of communication .
With email, txt and mobile phones that has all changed dramatically .

Yet there is still enough business going through Aus post to keep it running and a nearly 50% hike in charges is IMHO totally unjustified .
Simply a case of greed :dodgy:

These days an increasing portion of the mail deliveries are packages for stuff purchased over the internet. Ebay, Amazon, Gumtree, Alibaba and direct from supplier purchases.
Bills, monthly statements, personal letters, letters of demand and other purely word based mail is going the way of the dodo and only physical objects will be sent via snail mail.

Hello,

I have 2 items that seem to be lost. Both were sent AP with Sig required. So the seller's claimed. Neither has replied to my request for a tracking number. One is an Anda member, they are no better than any other crook IMO. Why buy from someone who is supposedly a reputable seller when they are not. Burnt twice, neither has gotten back to me. Anda Members, cheap and dodgy is still cheaper for bad service and lies.

How long ago were they sent and did they have to go interstate?
Sometimes it can take 10-14 days for me to get a parcel here in WA even from Vic or NSW.
I normally put the tracking number on the listing as soon as I send it.
A couple of times lately tho the lazy buggers at the post office didn't scan the parcels in and they didn't show up on tracking until they got to the receiving post office :dash1:

Hello,

I made the orders over a week ago, from Sydney and from Melbourne to Canberra. I have checked at the PO in case they ran out of cards / didnt leave / couldnt be bothered trying to deliver. At one stage I had more than a dozen item with no card left. My local PO and Postie are good, a parcel goes to the contract delivery people though. The PO looked everywhere, even though I had no Card.
