Thanks Barry.  I contacted them and have ordered 10 coins.  Each batch of 5 coins costs $5 for postage, so all up it cost me $110.00. I'm happy! :winkextra:

He emailed me that they're already attached to the cards, which from comments here some time ago means they're glued on. I'll wait until I get a firm indication of exactly how they're presented before committing I think.

If they're in the bag, that would be fine. But I've seen them glued on. :(

The RSL were advised not to glue any more on. Hence the baggies.

The Tassie ones just arrived. GLUED!!! Some images follow:

I don't know what the type of glue is called, but it's commonly used to attach small booklets etc. to Magazines and it can be removed fairly easily as it just rolls or peels off. It does not appear to have left any residue on the coin.

All are attached with the Obv down and each card with attached coin is enclosed in a plastic envelope that I can't determine the composition of, but it's fairly soft, so it'd be a fair guess that it contains PVC.

I will be removing all the coins and storing them separately.

Believe it or not, they're called "snot drops" or "snot dots"... or technically, "tack adhesive". The stuff is a pre-formed hot melt glue which doesn't hold shape as it never actually sets, so can't be formed into glue sticks. So they tend to be sold as sticky dots between silicone-coated carrier strips.

The good news is it comes off completely with no residue, and its acid-free. But yeah, I'd be removing them as well. ;)

Fulvio what is your thoughts about the self adhesive mylars 2x2 do they have any long term effects on the coins or is the glue on them inert?

They're safe, but not very good. The adhesive lets go over time. The bigger the coin, the quicker it opens up. 50¢ ones last maybe a week.

I've had success with non-adhesive (staple) 2x2's and a hot iron. Put the coin in, use a couple of bank bags or other smooth material to protect the mount, and heat it starting at the edges. This will melt the mylar together with no detrimental effects. Too much heat and the card will yellow, too much pressure and it will dent, but its just cosmetic. And of course this is a permanent solution, you can't reuse the mounts.

That said, I do prefer to make my own LDPE 2x2's out of bank bags as previously documented.

I have recently acquired some Red poppies glued to cards.

The glue can be peeled off, but a residue remains.

How can I safely remove that residue?

How can I safely remove that residue?

You could try dabbing it with an ear bud with a tiny amount of acetone on it.
Be extremely careful otherwise you will remove the red from the poppy as well.

I removed all my coins from these cards as soon as I got them so I didn't have the residue problem :good:

Thanks Trout I have tried that but miniscule scratches are evident.
But then again I rubbed and did not dab.

Will try the dab!

Thank you Trout.

Sadly mine are stuck on!
Title: RE: RSL $2 red poppy flower

I have solved the problem!

Dip a cottonwool ball (not a cotton ear bud) in acetone and very gently rub.
No perceivable damage and most gunk is removed.

If gunk remains in crevices e.g. nose, lips, throat or similar apply a drop or two or three of acetone to the area, wait a
minute or so and then rub again with cottonwool ball gently dunked in acetone.

VOILA!

Take care to ensure that no acetone finds its way to the reverse side of the coin where the colour is, as  it will most certainly
dissolve the "colour".

No it would be called a circulation issue uncoloured coin :)

in twenty years forward who will know/remember  that the enamel can be removed with acetone?
These coloured coins (with colour removed) will probably go for thousands each considering that a clear coronation sold on eBay recently for $289!!

Anyway that is all off topic.

I would be most happy to have a fellow forum member confirm that my described approach to remove glue residue is successful!

I am thrilled with the result using a cotton ball vs a cotton ear bud!

Trout according to RAMINT the red poppy is a circulating coin which I dispute!
http://ramint.gov.au/designs/ram-designs/2dollars.cfm
It was only offered by RSL clubs at a premium of nearly 500% and most coins failed to sell at that premium which was a ten dollar non tax deductible contribution.

It is not a circulated coin - it is a disguised collector coin which the Ramint normally charges a huge premium for.

A case of poor marketing by RAM and RSL.
