been offered some but are in these slabs. Is this the ones not to buy?
Don't walk away from these ...............RUN :ok:
Generally overgraded and overpriced
I was offered a 1944S Shilling in MS65 and a 1951 Fed florin in MS64 from a collector put in a container by this APCGS company. The collector wanted $10 for the pair. The florin is an AU58 and the shilling would body-bag for hairlines. Buy at your own risk, in my view. Their coins would not generally cross to PCGS.
Eric
Thanks Guys I Thought they were the ones to RUN from.
Saw the ultimate double negative on eBay today. APCGS slab being sold by Peter Wallace. Trout has it correct. RUN
Some recent activity on the PCGS forum (http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=912498). Note the thread title ": ATTN: David Hall. You should sue this company..."
I'm only an hour from Port Macquarie, so perhaps I'll hear the .......thud!
Now that is bizarre eh!
David Hall = founder of PCGS
Emma Hall = one of the registered parties of APCGS
Eeeeeeerie ......
Ben Hall = famous collector of coins, bullion and whatever else ....... bail up!

Yes AJ there are a few big sellers on ebay that have jumped on the APCGS bandwagon buying cheap coins and getting them overgraded and selling them to ebay numbnuts buyers and making big money.Where will it end?
not anywhere in my collection mate :winkextra: they can keep'em :)

Ditto mate I don't think I need them either
I'd want to see an APCGS in hand and then I'd want someone like Mark or Peter A with me to help me with the grade but no I wouldn't buy one just from the name they chose let alone the good rep they are getting/have :)

Cool. Ta. And apologies for my naughtyness.
I happened upon this coin whilst browsing eBay and thought to myself how the seller can suggest it's the second highest grade known (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AUSTRALIA-1966-5-CENTS-PROOF-ECHIDNA-APCGS-PR-67-SECOND-HIGHEST-GRADE-KNOWN-/141226187908?pt=AU_Coins2&hash=item20e1bc9c84&_uhb=1) *chuckle*. So I went to the APCGS website to look for some sort of population table. And found this (http://apcgs.com.au/main/page_find_slabbed_coinbanknote_2014.html).
You can get a snapshot of the sorts of things they have been grading, like this one (http://apcgs.com.au/attachments/1402161276.pdf) graded MS65RBN.

Geezuz that's terrible. The forum I am in is suggesting people get their coins graded at either of both places. I have a feeling some will go to the aussie APCGS just because they are cheaper. I hate to see what they get when they try reselling their coins.

This would be laughable PP if it wasn't for the fact that Many Novice collectors will be badly burned and will probably give up collecting entirely due to this ridicules situation.
I would think that many of us actively promote this hobby and this sort of thing can only do irreparable damage to the "Bona Fides" of the hobby.
The Rare Coin company has already alienated a large number of collectors .
Why PCGS hasn't slapped a writ on these clowns is beyond me as I truly believe that APCGS has a case to answer to.
This mob were bemusing when they started out with their MS35 type grades but now they are becoming an absolute embarrassment to the coin collecting community.
makes ya wonder doesn't it..and as if we don't have enough trouble with fakes, cleaned coins and just the scum that see a quick buck at our expense :(
Well I don't know but is it true that they don't even seal the slabs and that they are only in the normal holders that we can buy
I was told the older apcgs slabs did just clip together , but the newer style ones are sealed by Electronic plastic welder ?

Apcgs Australia I'm happy to start this off. We are Australian Professional Coin Grading Services. I started collecting coins at the age of 4 (mainly due to my grandmother introducing me to the industry). Worked in the coin industry as a dealer for over a decade. I don't collect coins/banknotes but I do collect Rolex watches and Marbles (only because I lost my marbles years ago)

I'm a bit wary of that. Do you remember on CCF, SW saying this " i am looking for a new company to invest in", then going on to talk about grading etc. He was responding to a statement by CCF member, blackmamba010, now as we can see by what SteveQld posted, a SW just happens to be both:
Registrant Contact Name: Shane Williams
Tech Contact Name: Shane Williams
yet shanew on CCF denies flatly that it is him, but like I said, I'm not so sure about that. It's a pretty
BIG coincidence IYKWIM.

now - I think you have changed your name
and I already forget the other name
coins from vending is a bit plain
we need to razz it up
say like
Vend-Co Incorporated - shortened to VendCo Inc
treasure-vend
vending-spending (like that one!! ha ha)
and so on
mind you, all this is coming from miss plain name Robbiegal (Latin for - Robbie - is - a - gal i.e. is-not-a-guy ha ha)
Flipper would have been interesting.
It reminds me of both pinball machines and dolphins.
Watch out Purple Pussy. I think we're both going to get into trouble for wandering off topic.
Its hard to choose a name, Fipper was cause I like to find then sell my coins so flipper from flipping.
Then I thought all my coins come from vending machines so coins from vending???
CFV it is then :)
cool - VendCo Inc
so instead of being a 'Vest pocket dealer' you are a 'Vending machine dealer' ha ha (sorry couldn't help myself)

having dealt with the seller I lean to wards the latter
but I do think that it is unfair to label the buyer as an idiot as the ad is quite convincing about trusting the authentication & grading

This is precisely why these shysters chose the company name of APCGS so as to give them some sort of perceived credibility .
It is about time that PCGS took this mob to task because they can only damage the TPG market and give ALL TPG's a bad name.
In the meantime there will be many collectors shafted and Jaded in the process .

It shows that you should do your own research and not believe everything
you read.It is likely that most new collectors will be duped by this sort of
scam at some stage. The hope is that they will learn by their mistakes and dotheir own research or join a forum like this where the learning experience is enhanced
This is shameful. As I understand it, PCGS is aware of the issue, although I don't know what their doing about it.

They had better do something shortly because this mob are flooding the market with this sort of crap.
It doesn't take much of a stretch of imagination to work out that eventually PCGS will become synonymous with APCGS in the eyes of the average collector and both of these slab types will be "Shunned" eventually.
I wonder if these shysters have a contingency programme to do a name change to ANGC if PCGS shuts them down :dodgy:

At least with NGC there is a guarantee and they will "Make Good" on a grading mistake.
I vary much doubt that that would be the case with APCGS :ok:

We'll see. If you're going to set yourself up as a professional offering an expert service, then you must accept the consequences of your mistakes. That goes for any professional in any field, and grading should be no different.
'Professional' by the way does not equate with 'Expert', or even 'Good'. It just means they charge money, whereas an 'Amateur' does it for the love. Many amateurs are far better at what they do than most professionals.

Based on the sandpit website, all 1923 halfpennies have flat base letters, so curved base lettering should have been an easy pickup for an 'expert'

There is a coinaus on ccf that says this coin is genuine.
Typical of those CCF scoundrels.
The coin is a fake.
I sent the seller a message to say it was a fake and his reply was
"What are you talking about"

Sad, isn't it.
So is it an altered 1928 or 1933, it looks to me to be a 1928. Or is it just plain fake?
It's a 1933, compare the final digit with the final digit of a 1933, it's a perfect match.
Thanks for that wwwww
And from what I have seen lately, plenty more ppl will be ripped off. I shared some of this info with someone I know, who is promoting this apcgs and he is of the opinion that ppl will make up their own minds, as whether to not to have their coins slabbed by this lot. I also showed him the sandpit site, and WWWW's comments in another web site, so he got in touch with apcgs and was told it was recalled and then graded by a third party and declared genuine. So I have down my job to show him everything but he believes apcgs, so I won't be saying any more to him about this. He can cop the sh!t when it hits the fan.

Whenever I hear A-PCGS mentioned, I think about so many people doing this.

Haha good one Fr45h3R
Talk about people jumping on the bandwagon.
I made the effort and took the time to accumulate a few high grade incused 50 cent coins Then submitted them to PCGS.
I had a couple of successful sales and now these scumbags are using my efforts to promote yet another grossly overgaded coin :dash1:

Shocking photos ..... the coin is not lit very well.
That coin is EF (aussie ) at best, would an ef coin make it into a NGC or PCGS MS slab,i think not.
Has anyone else noticed that coinaus has disappeared from the CCF boards since the 23 halfpenny discussion ?
Consider that this coin has appeared in an MS62 slab so quickly after trout sold his coin and that the seller knows that trout's coin went for. The APCGS people are clearly reading forums (whether CCF or this one). I would suggest you all strongly consider what you say because I have no desire for either you or myself to be held accountable by APCGS if they ever decide to lawyer up.

I think APCGS is far more worried about what PCGS will do to them when they finally realise the immense damage that is being done to their name.

I wish the sleeping giant would just wake up and do something about it. Regardless, I don't want to get dragged into a legal fight (whether APCGS has a leg to stand on or not) because of a post written by someone else on this forum which we run for a bit of fun.
I edited my post & i won't say another word about them.
If PCGS leave their run too late the damage will be done to their name and NGC will end up being the premier TPG in Australia.
I think they need to act now and without prejudice.
I have sent PCGS a couple of emails regarding their "look alike" cousins But so far not even an answer from them :dash1:

I don't have a problem with people posting about them. Highlighting that one of their coins is a fake, or over-graded is something that needs to happen. I just don't want it to get insulting or become a witches hunt.
How many of this sellers coins are real, beside the 5c, 20c and 50c aussie coins?

Just about all of them. There's only been a few fakes pointed out, most of them very recently.
ok thanks Mark

The only guarantee you get on APCGS slab is, that it was graded and slabbed by APCGS. I doubt that would get you
any refund unfortunitely
has any one written to the mint asking their opinion on all these fake errors and fake coin being slabbed by this mob?
Quotehas any one written to the mint asking their opinion on all these fake errors and fake coin being slabbed by this mob?
It has nothing to do with the mint.

It has nothing to do with the mint.
It does if they are altering or defacing the coin in any way.
Just a thought,,,Do these people actually think they know what they are doing and believe they can accurately grade coins?
I believe I can grade coins (sort of) but would be very reluctant to ask money to certify them -just happy to give an opinion and suggest someone with (much) more experience than me should be consulted; especially for something potentially of high value.
And a question; do they actually grade and slab coins for others or just for themselves?
I think they follow the ANDA grading standards and try to apply it to the Sheldon scale which doesn't necessarily work (as well as using the current McDonalds / renniks as valuation figures)
My own opinion is APCGS uses market grading, whilst PCGS / NGC give 'technical' gradings (this is why there are sometimes difference of opinion on some coins.)
Check out Walter's page here which outlines the differences.

It really comes back to one of the first rules of buying coins. Buy the coin, not the grade on the holder.

Well said Rob but, if you buy the unpainted Coronation coin (whether or not it's in a slab), believing it to be an error coin, you'll be out of pocket for a fake error. IYKWIM
And apcgs is more or less certifying that the unpainted Coronation coin in his slab, is genuine.
I wrote to the mint and asked them whether they thought it possibly it got out of the mint unpainted, and although they are of the opinion it's more likely to have been tampered with, they didn't say it was a definite error or not.
So this guy is slabbing them and saying it is. Oh well, you can't tell these ppl. They think it's great getting them slabbed cheap.

It not impossible for that coin to have left the mint that way.
But to me the fact the printing can be removed chemically, would pretty much leave all examples in the 'suspect' category.
It's going to be a case of buyer beware. Unfortunately the lure of the big $$$ will mean someone will probably get stung.
A wee bit of acetone and "Bobs your Uncle "
What a lot of crap :dash1:
The same type of scammers tried this with the proof Millennium 50 cent coin and tried to flog if off as a supreme error .
