Title: A Pretty Penny
Post by: purplepennyhunter on October 16, 2013, 12:15:23 PM
Inspired after meeting Mrs Robster at the stamp show on the weekend I have dug out my pretty penny box. Not just 1964's but anything pretty that's not up to standard to be sent for slabbing gets a little airtite capsule and lives here. Streakers welcome.

I took it outside into the sun but didn't manage to pick up the light. The single blue penny is second bottom row far left.

Kel they are a lighthouse box and there's the bottom tray shown and 2 more removable trays that sit on top. I have found it useful for storing the capsules, takes up a lot of space though. I noticed in the sunshine outside that I've managed to scratch up the box sliding it in and out of it's hidey hole.

I guess it's like this one (http://www.lighthouse.us/epages/lighthouse.sf/en_US/?ObjectPath=/Shops/leuchtturm_us/Products/HMK3T20MBL). I remember I got it one year off Renniks at a Perth ANDA show, Sunday afternoon special as he didn't want to take it home and it fit fine in my suitcase!

I was fortunate enough to view PP's 'blue penny' and 'toned' shilling last night and can confirm how amazing they look in 'real life'. The toning on the shilling is consistent across the coin and looks stunning. I wish all earlier silver would tone like this.!!

Only a halfpenny but lot 256 in Roxbury's 9/11/13 auction may be of interest to admirers of purple.

Yes unfortunately he hasn't any better pictures anywhere.  Starting to lose interest in these auctions.  I notice he has put the buyers premium up to 20% which must be among the highest in Australia.  He says

Please Note:: After many years, we can no longer absorb rising auction costs, so we have increased our Buyer's premium
this auction to 20% (inclusive of GST) This is the first time in 15 years despite cost increases each year.

Not true.  As late as the 5/2/2005 (8 yrs ago) catalogue the BP was only 13.5% and it's been 17.5% most recently.

I think coin dealers are finding the current market difficult.  If it was buoyant and bidding high with sufficient stock then there would be no need to increase the BP.

Oops I've gone off topic again.

I spoke briefly to Peter a couple of Roxbury auctions ago and he said he was considering another but they haven't eventuated.
