That's one great cover PPH!!!

The 5/- SHB is my favourite stamp. (Not that I've ever owned one).

Just as a 1930 Penny in one coin collection is a must for coin collectors, the 5/- Green SHB Stamp is a must to have in ones stamp collection......

I don't have a 1930 penny in my collection and really I have no desire right now to get one. I have a 1925 penny which I truly don't love like my other coins.....so sad.

The early first day covers are crude compared to the modern ones but a great pick up Purple Girl.

Some of the best early covers are those that were addressed using Calligraphy. I was always very jealous of neat handwriting, even more so when it was accompanied by swirls and tails and flourishing stuff.!! lol. Being left handed meant I was always smudging the ink.!!:dodgy:

It was an unprompted gift and will sit pride of place in my collection.

I notice the full stop between the house number and the street name
I wonder if that was how addresses were written back then?
the typist certainly had a heavy full stop hand in the type

I hope not to bore you with these FDC's, but I think they are pretty sexy, please note the number of each one they are
92 of 100
92 of 200
192 of 250
The first one is really special read the box on the front they have the wrong date!!! AARGH, Sunday was the 18th NOOOOOO
There is a letter inside the cover on beautiful parchment paper explaining the error. Love that.
I carried "C" mint marked coins from Canberra across Bridge, bought some more that they were selling on the city side of the bridge plus I still have one of the yellow hats.
But I've lost all the photos due to my old hard drive.

Hi RG love your avatar.
These were all available from the post office
But, these were all from the expo each cancelled on a different day using a different cancellation stamp & colour, So you had to go each day. & be the 92nd person standing in line. LOL.

keen number 92 collector (I like the numbers 52 and 64 and subsequently have a lot of 1952 and 1964 pennies)
I can see the line now, with the collectors working out places (the ones who are more collaborative, that is)

I know the first day releases at shows are very popular and often very pricey if sold on, as well
thanks for your pics

my avatar is from pictures of flowers from AJ's garden that he posted here - a close up pic
I liked the way the little flowers looked cute - so I gave them eyes and they came to life instantly!
& I reckon they look like they are from out of space and not AJ's back garden!

The best thing about pre 1970 covers is the postmarks were applied when and where the postmark says.
Modern covers by AP are pre cancelled at the Melbourne philatelic bureau in order to have them on the PO shelves on the stamp release date.

Some of these modern postmarks were never in use outside the bureau.
The postmark on the lifesaving pnc is a good example of this.
Bondi PO  never had that PM in use.

Some people tried to get a PO set up in the northern pylon for the 75th bridge Ann like they had back in the 1932 opening.
Did not happen due to OH&S issues

I collected FDCs in the 1980s and they were all stamped at my local post office
