I negotiated the purchase of this little baby from a coin friend. It's a beauty.

This is one of the 3 others I have seen. It has however been engraved. Top row third from the left.

Bit beyond what I can justify.. but do you feel generous enough to get me started without breaking the bank? :)
In your LINK to the sale PPH, there is a postcard with a three funnelled ship heading for Circular Quay.
That ship was the RMS Strathnaver before a total refit that removed two of her funnels.
It is the same ship the I and the rest of the family sailed from UK to emigrate to Australia departing Tilbury 2 Jun 1959, arrivaing Sydney 9 Jul 1959.
The ship was scrapped in 1962 or there abouts.
Sorry to go off topic.

The 2008 Carlisle price guide supplement lists number ZS/2 at $75 in VF to EF condition.
Now, these medals were made from sliced-up steel rivets. Steel, even Sydney Harbour Bridge steel, rusts. I would expect to see some obvious rust patches on a "VF to EF" steel medal. The medal in the OP is virtually rust-free, just a few tiny hints of brown in places. So I would expect it to be worth a considerable premium above the catalogue value.

The one PPH picked up is certainly the best one we have seen.

Y'd think they never saw a bridge before, eh?
Either that, or someone tried to sell it to them, but the deal fell through.
Our bridges don't have the same mystique. I think only the Golden Gate comes close with the Brooklyn Bridge a distant second. Nobody talks much about the Mackinac Bridge.

Oh, I dunno.... every time I see the footage of Galloping Gertie doing its dance with that stranded car in the middle, I reckon it has a certain mystique.
And what about Verazzano Narrows? And does the Florida Keys count as a bridge?
BTW, I was searching for that bridge that collapsed a couple of days ago, and turned up this interesting list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_bridge_failures
Bridges here aren't tourist attractions for the most part. Typically all you can do is cross them in a moving vehicle. You're probably on to Verazzano Narrows and Seven Mile Bridge because of films or TV. You don't hear about the Lake Ponchatrain Causeway very often.
A lot of our bridges fail because of age and lack of maintenance. It's usually the first time anybody outside the vicinity has heard of them.
I clearly came across two distinctive types of collectors selling tokens, medallions and coins on ebay
Sydney Harbour Bridge and Churches - some people actively collect coins and medallions of the two - and source from ebay world wide as well
SHB might also be a part of the bridge theme
I also had one buyer who actively purchased 'Opera House' memorabilia - any opera house worldwide
so of course the Sydney Opera House items that I had up were snavelled up by him

Someone needs to relocate the Opera House onto one end of the bridge and build a Church up the other end. That'd confuse all of the collectors.

By Churches RG, do you mean ones with images of Churches on them, or just Church (religion) related?
church buildings & sometimes also with a Pope on them
like the ST Mary's Cathedral medallion
Thanks RG.
I have one of these I've been trying to sell, but I don't think that's what you're meaning. Thanks again.

A recent purchase that I am over the moon about. Look at the gorgeous blue toning. Picked it up at the Edlins auction a week ago against the stiff competition of a phone bidder but I came out the winner.
It's a 1932 sporting prize medal awarded to the Kookaburras in Basketball, minted by Amor and in it's original box in superb condition.
Awesome medal PPH. It's an impressive 50mm medal and the toning is quite a bit more attractive than that shown in the image. The edge is inscribed with "Basket Ball C.G.A.S.A. Kookaburras". We're pretty sure (based on some stuff we found on Trove) that CGASA stands for "City Girls Amateur Sports Association". We found a mention of this medal type being awarded as prizes for sports competitions held in conjunction with the opening of the Bridge in 1932 so (as PPH mentioned) this one was awarded for the girls basketball tournament.
Stunning condition and colour.!!
Beautiful PPH. What a great piece of Aussie history.
Fantatsic piece...
