Title: Buggered Coins
Post by: trout on October 12, 2013, 09:46:54 PM
We all have coins that would be amazing BUT

Come on you Mob this is the place where you can drag those deformed freakish coins out of the locked cellar and show them some daylight :laugh2:

I found this one the other day.
It is beautifully struck up and has full lustre :yahoo:
Shame about that crap on it that acetone won't budge :dash1:

This makes what, four or five threads about roadkill?

Seems only the good die young. Coins too. Like my very first 20¢ bubble the other day. Completely ruined. :(

I wasn't thinking about "road Kill" more about corrosion, PVC and other environmental damage on otherwise nice coins.

Like these two examples of shoddy mint packaging.
The 20 cent came directly from a mint set and the dollar was from one of them totally useless mint envelopes :dash1:

ok I'll play, talk about a heart breaker :cray: 09 wedding set and no idea how this would happen unless at a speck of dust or something got on it at the mint but either way the coin is RS and now I'm seeing how long it takes to cover the coin (http://i44.tinypic.com/mvnva0.jpg)

:laugh2: I should post some of my predecimal as they really are disgusting but they're a part of our past so I like them

I pretty much said yes to a big box full of 1980's rolls today. End coins are almost all very very green. So I'll have quite a lot of buggered coins next week.

You never know...you might be lucky with the ones in the middle.

The ones he already opened were all perfect other than the ends, so yes, I expect that will be the case. But the premium is somewhat less than 100%, and the higher value rolls appear unaffected at first glance, so it may all work out for the best.

I'm sorry to say that I know of no way of removing that without damaging the surface of the coin.

Ewwwww.. what a horrible thing to do to a coin!

Oh, and it was a punch of some sort, not a drill.
