Title: eBay selling
Post by: trout on September 06, 2013, 06:35:06 PM
I have hundreds of spare and extra coins that are starting to clutter up my filing cabinets.
I know eBay is my best option to sell these but I find it really hard to get motivated to take all the pic's and type out the listings.
Also my work stuffs me up because I can be called out at a moments notice and be away from home for sometimes a couple of weeks at a time ( buyers don't like delayed postage).
Any tips from you Mob, I know there are a few canny eBayers on this site :ok:

I think postage as quickly as possible after the item sells will be your biggest issue. If you are able to post from
wherever you are working then maybe you could prepack in your items in envelopes and take them with you and just
address and post when they sell.Failing that you could prepack and get the mrs to post .you could prepare by numbering
your listing and and mark the matching number on each envelope. If those ides are no good then there probably isn't
an easy solution

you could submit large lots to an auction house
but between post and sale price
well,,,, you might not be ahead ?

Try selling some here on the forum and explain in the ad that postage might be delayed occasionally due to work. We're a pretty understanding mob.

Here's a little thought from way out in left field...

Why couldn't we operate our own virtual shop here?

Not necessarily IN the forum as such, but alongside it perhaps? Perhaps another instance of an online shop, limited to forum members? Or perhaps even a shop in a virtual world such as Second Life even. I can see no reason why you couldn't put virtual coins on sale and then send the physical ones to buyers. Other people have already been doing this with all sorts of real-world items for many years now. They even take payments in virtual currency, which can be traded for real world money.

Or we could set up physical "stores" to cut down postage. We have members across the country, so why not have trusted volunteers in each city to act as clearing houses, with bulk transfers between them? It could even spur some social contact, by meeting someplace regularly to pick up/deliver items.

The whole ebay thing is really a dead loss for everyone but ebay themselves I reckon. Putting aside the monetary cost, there is a massive investment of time and effort, and the whole thing becomes pointless for anything but the high-value stuff. Which is also where the lack of trust is greatest, thanks to the many scammers out there.

I'm sure we can do better amongst ourselves.

OK , I am going down the eBay track.
I have the "Power Seller" and the "Top Rated Seller" badges (Dunno if that makes an ounce of difference).
I fixed up our hot water system last night ( I'm still in Night Shift Mode) so I will get busy with the camera and the keyboard today and see how many things I can list before I go totally nuts :)

HeHeHe
I don't mind sharing the joy But even that "ONE" hurt:angel:
There have been a few of these sets on eBay recently and most of them have been pretty crappy.
Just having a bit of a "looksee" to se what a half decent Set is valued at on eBay :ok:

I have just ventured into the world of selling on ebay, and no doubt about it, I'm a real novice. My first sale went well, and the buyer wants to do a cash on pick up, which should be no drama. I really would appreciate some advice on whether I need to (if at all able) remove the postage amount, and how to do this if required. Or is it just a matter of marking the item as paid.  Just trying to reduce ebay charges, as I think they apply their percentage to postage as well? I don't need these new experiences at this stage of life
TIA

When you put zero in the postage box on the invoice form you can also change postage type to "local pickup" (and delete, if any, other postage options).
