Title: My Noodling source has dried up!
Post by: JeffH on August 21, 2013, 03:24:43 PM
My local Westpac staff have been told they will no longer get weekly Armaguard visits. Only when they have coins ordered (and they have to justify the order). Coin returns will only be done then.
Cost cutting measure.

If I order coins now that means they will have to give me coins from their available stock -ones I have probably already noodled and cashed in. :icon_cry:

However, the other bank in town has an ATM so do get weekly Armaguard visits. I now have a brand new bank account -savings account with no fees, unlimited branch access, no internet/phone banking, no card linking and negligible interest.
That enables me to pre-order coin bags, each week at no charge, as a customer. So, all good again. I thought I might have to make it a business account (had my ABN with me just in case) but they were happy to make it a personal account.
I cleaned out their cash drawers yesterday to get started and put in my first order for delivery next week. They won't tell me what day is delivery (security issue) but agreed to my suggestion I would pick up on Thursday. I have seen the security van in town many times and always same day each week (unless a public holiday that week).

Westpac will still let me know about moneybox cash ins and the laundromat deposits (laundromat deposits $2,000 of $1 coins regularly).

Crisis averted and no withdrawal symptoms.

You could always force deliveries... just take all their cash and deposit it elsewhere. I used to do that back in the Chubb/Brinks days, taking coins from one and notes from the other, and swapping them over. No point now its (almost) all Armaguard. :(

Not a realistic scenario here Fulvio. Small town and I know all the bank staff and they know me. Besides, the different bank branches swap amongst themselves if there is a shortage.

No pun intended (didn't even think of that).

PS. $450 of 50ยข from Westpac yesterday -money box deposit and lots of very nice early years; must have taken that person a long while to accumulate those. $300 of $1 today and another $2500 from the same deposit -I will exchange $500 every day until that lot is exhausted.
So, I am actually doing better than usual for supplies right now. :ok:

He did say it was a money box deposit. Not a delivery. :)

Maybe your neck of the woods is different, but around here the little money boxes find it hard to keep to a regular schedule of where to walk and when. :P

Tends to make hunting them down a little "challenging" to say the least.
