Title: 2014 Mint sets
Post by: trout on August 12, 2013, 08:54:49 AM
In another couple of months or so the new Mint and proof sets will hit the market.
They have done the hypercolour and gold plating on the 50 and 20 cent coins so far, Any guesses or insider information on which denomination that they will treat this way this time?
I hope they pick a better colour scheme than the last "Swamp Thing" 20 cents.

what's wrong with pond scum..ya can still see the pus :)

they might do the 5 or 10 but who know as I bet the mint doesn't and don't know how many they pump out either..what's that word again..oh yeah that's it, USELESS :laugh2:

a better question is what will be this years mint set error and better again what will they go for

My money is on the $2. Theyve been hot on them the past couple years.

A coloured and gold plated Mob of Roos would be AWSOME :good:

The currency determination suggests it's the mob of roos dollar but on a different planchet. I guess gold plating would look silly on an al br planchet so it might be copper nickel.

that would be perfect.
The only other different planchet coin I have is the 2003 Golden jubilee 50 cents in ali/bronze.
A MOR coin in cu/nickel with the colour and gold treatment would look great :yahoo:

I'm old fashioned and prefer the Mint Sets without the bling just circulating type coins

Yeah I agree, the RAM should flog the bling individually. :dodgy:

Absolutely. I might even consider it then. But as long as they use it to rip people off the way they currently do, I refuse to play along.

I can't help thinking about the introduction of the 2 coin proof and mint sets. How convoluted was that? All they needed to do was issue the 'missing' coins individually but they issued them as sets with an extra coin. :dodgy:

Unless they bring back the wedding sets in specimen quality coins , they will have to add the "Bling" to keep collectors interested.
That 2012 gold plated 50 cent and 2013 20 cent proof coin is superb by the way tho :yahoo:

Sorry, I don't buy that one little bit. Keep the grannies interested, maybe. But I don't think collectors base their interest on bling or fancy packaging. Well, I don't, anyway. And I KNOW you don't either...

Cmon Mate I have more Grannybait than the local old peoples home, I am a sucker for "Bling".
I also like to collect real coins :):dance2::dance::dance2:

I used to be a collector expecting a mint set and proof set to contain the circulating type coins without the bling
RAM has lost the plot unfortunately with costs and products it's unsubstainable
