Title: The Dreaded Lurgy
Post by: trout on August 12, 2013, 08:44:37 AM
I am just getting over a bout of the flue , working 6 nightshifts in the rain didn't help much :dash1:

Have any of you mob had this injection and is it any good?

I tried Beer and Prawns last night and that didn't work out too well this morning :diablo::laugh2:
I have to go into town today for yet another drug and alcohol test for work, They do the flue jabs at the same place.
I was just wondering if it is worthwhile getting the jab while I am in there.

Yeah I think it's too late for this winter. I had the shot last year about April maybe. My arm was sore for weeks I swore I'd never do that again but looking back I haven't had a sniffle since and it's 16 months later (almost 2 winters).

And don't forget a PSA blood test :idea:

the international influenza/s hits Oz around August, so it might not be too late
if you are already sick you best talk to a doctor about getting the jab whilst sick

Don't do that. Seriously, the movie is total crap. Really, really awful.

Watch the TV series instead. The epitomy of awesomeness.

Or.. read the books. But I would start with the TV series. I might even have it lying around someplace if you can't find it online.

No, it was just a matter of letting the damn yanks get anywhere near the project. Made a complete ballsup of it, as usual. Just like the Dr Who movie, and countless other americanisations of "foreign" awesomeness.

About the only good thing in the movie was the original Marvin's cameo appearance in the background for about 3 seconds.

AJ, back on your Ben Elton comment, I had the pleasure of seeing him and Rick Mayall (separately) at the Enmore Theatre in Newtown back in the 1980's (when The Young Ones was on). Ben Elton was on stage for about 2 and a half hours and didn't stop once. It was a brilliant show.

An Aussie who was on par I think was Clive James. Saw him live in Canberra in the late early 90's. Hilarious!

I'm trying to picture him doing standup. Never thought of him that way, somehow...

Speaking of which.... Would any of you Melbournites be interested in going to the Comics Lounge in North Melbourne? I occasionally get offered tickets, which I've used for various clubs I'm in. I reckon it could be a good night out. We could even take some bags of coins to noodle before the show.. :)

I have been away -and disinclined to pay 75¢/minute for poor internet access- so have missed this interesting discussion.

Some observations;
•A tropical island cruise is an effective way to shake the lurgy. But much more expensive than the jab.
•Don't order a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster on a P&O ship. You may be summarily ejected from the premises (can you swim?). However a large range of alternatives is available for most carbon based life forms.

And some questions;
•What food is the best match for a PGGB?
•Is it OK to offer a PGGB to the Dish of the Day at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe? Or, is that considered bad form?

QuoteThere is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
― Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

Is that what P&O charge for satellite? Rogues and Thieves milking a captive audience!

A PGGB goes best with Chicken... but only after you get out of the recovery ward, never before.

It may or may not be considered bad form by the Dish of the Day... best to ask when you meet the meat.

That is their standard rate but they do have some package deals (don't actually seem to be much cheaper).
10 minutes internet or another drink is the exchange rate. No brainer; I will take the cocktail thanks. {Drinks are mostly reasonably priced -no excise outside territorial limits.}

I always thought "P&O" stood for "Pacific and Orient" but was recently (on board by a fellow passenger) informed it is now "Profit and Opportunity"!

I LIKE the way you think, boyo!
Sturdier too, so it doesn't collapse under the weight. ;)

Actually, I was doing some daydreaming a while back, and imagined a work desk with spring-loaded holders built into it. Sort of like those coin holders cabbies use. You would just park coins on the appropriate spot for that particular error or year, and the weight would push the stack down, keeping them neatly out of the way.

Yeah, I know, impractical. But like I said, I was daydreaming... ;)

I think we are all looking forward to some warmer weather, I know we need the rain, but as I get older I realize I am definitely "Solar Powered." :angel:

Summer time in Adelaide averages about 90F. We also average about 5 or 6 days a year with temps. well over 100F. Had a couple last year that hit 45C.! I find it easier to cool down than warm up.!!
