Ekka mobile press coin prices we hope are not same as ANDA show mobile prices fair dinkum $10 is becoming a farce :(
Anyone from the forum going?
Not me! Sorry, I haven't been to the Ekka since 1976 and don't plan to start going again.
Hopefully for those of you that want coins from the portable press, someone else will offer to get them for you.
I don't know yet if I'm going. Certainly not this week. If I am then I'll ask who else want how many?

I wouldn't mind a couple if you are heading off to the show Mate :good:
The only reason I ask is that if nobody is going then I will have to make alternative arrangements to secure the coins.
This EKKA may be the only B counterstruck this year I hope so and mobile press coin is not the outrageous $10 a pop

Will be the only B, and I very much think it
will be $10 each.
Sorry, I've been to the Ekka more recently than Nevol, but not that much more recently. I was still a teenager last time I went.
I made a special trip to brisbane this morning to secure coins from the mobile press,i have about 25 spares for those who want them.
They were $5 each but my cost to get them were $25 fuel,$21 to get in & $13.50 parking so i would like $7 each for them to help cover my costs + postage at cost.
I won't be around until tonight so will work out who wants what then.
:hi: Hat's off to you Accumulator. Good on ya.
(I don't collect NCLT so I'm ok, thanks for the offer regardless).
Accumulator your effort is much appreciated
3 if possible please
Accumulator,
PM sent.
Thanks

one memory of the ekka for me
about 7 years old
having toooooo much snow cone ice cream laden with fresh strawberries , liquorice and hot dogs
and being a dressed up little tyke, lookin gorgus in mum's home made new dress with embroidered flowers & our hair was also set in curlers before we left home,
then hurling my guts up behind the hot dog stand while my dear father stood near by wearing his sunday best and hat watching his 'lil girl chunder her heart up because he was just too generous with the spending on the kids that day!
later ekka attendance had food restrictions applied and the liquorice show bag came home before it was consumed!!

Good on you Peter.
Much appreciated :friends:
$5 each is cheap for a modern day mobile press coin :)
WHY do RAM charge $10 for them at ANDA shows whilst they charge $5 for this show?
RES Sydney mobile press coin was 10 bucks from memory
Why the difference in prices?

Probably to entice the crowds who are less likely to be coin collectors than ANDA show customers.
did they have the press there?
or were the coins pre-minted for the show?
anyone know?

I think your on the money there Mister T, try and draw more to collecting as they know where they are sending stuff so I take it QLD sales must be down..just a thought :)
sorry RG can't help ya out mate :(
I just remembered that I think there's been negative customer feedback about the prices along with the door charge at the shows
hummm
could explain it RG :good:
The mobile press was there Robbie & they did the counterstamps while i waited.

I think the coins been pre-minted and just counter-stamped with a letter since 2002 or thereabouts.

WOW indeed. They used to be free, then half price, and now two lousy bucks off? May they burn in hell, which will freeze over before I ever attend another event.

Gee what a great deal, so do the kids stay in the hot car while the parent looks around..I hope kids are free then if they give such a huge saving of $1 per person..woe is me ;)
I didn't/haven't got one yet. If anyone gets one for the International Banknote and Coin Show inn Melbourne later on and will not be able to use it, I wouldn't say no. PM me please.

Just letting all know in case you don't already, I've been speaking with someone at the RAM and apparently you will be able to order the B counterstamp coins over the phone, 5 per person. They will also be available to dealers. 1300 652 020! What doesn't sell is going back to be melted.
Matt

Why didn't they publicise this before?
Gets to me every time that I have complained in person to the very people that control these and have been told that the above is a NO NO except for the pre ordering for coin dealers.
The sale of these coins from the RAM to the public at five per order is new. If they do it for this one, will they do it for the World Banknote and Coin Fair for the "M" Counterstamp to be held in Melbourne in OCT. If they are, I will not be a good frame of mind to secure coins for forum members like have done in the past years.
I hjust might send an e,mail to the RAM and ask that very question and if I get a reply, I shall post it here.
I always get mine from Prospect. They were offering them before the show.-John
Phone 1300 652 020 and try to order 5 see what they say then have your say
I personally doubt RAM would be supplying B counterstrikes outside of the show
The Ram staff told me that they press 2500 coins for the dealers when they were'nt busy at the Brisbane Ekka.
Thought I would relay what I was sent.
Royal Australian Mint
Hi Matt,
Thanks for your feedback about the coin and our staff. It was great catching up with our Queensland collectors at EKKA and we hope to come back again next year.
A portion of the remaining 'B' counterstamp coins will be available through our Call Centre and will be sold to dealers around Australia. This way collectors who couldn't make it to Brisbane can still add this coin to their collection, however the majority of the coins will be melted down.
As for the other products that were on site at the Mint booth, they will be made available through the Mint's sales channels. Was there a particular product you were interested in?
Regards, Royal Australian Mint
I just asked what the plans were for the left over B counterstamp coins and that was the reply.
Matt
Royal Australian Mint
Hi Matt,
There is a limit of 5 of these coins per customer, so if you have more than 5 friends that missed out on this coin it might be best if they call our Contact Centre individually on 1300 642 020.
Regards, Royal Australian Mint

Hi XXXXX
We have done this for all shows this year other than the post show in Melbourne.
If the coins aren't sold out at the show we will have a very limited number of coins available via the call centre (limited to 5 per person).
I have a few people looking in to the other email you have sent me, they're still looking for you
Regards
Looks like it is going to be the norm from now on........
Should we call these leftovers Privy Marks then?
No, the coin was counterstamped in Brisbane and brought back to the mint afterwards. Same as a coin counterstamped in Brisbane and brought back by a dealer. As long as that 'B' is in a circle, the coin can't be distinguished from any similar counterstamped coin once it is removed from the premises where the counterstamp was applied.-John
So true John you are on the ball :)
My coins arrived today Accu :yahoo:
Thanks heaps for these mate :friends:
