Just in case someone comes across a couple of these new coins in circulation before I can nail one, I wouldn't say no to two of them. Thanks in advance.
PM me with details and postage.
do you think these will be worth more than their $12.95 mint issue price in the cardboard?? If they mint 2 mil of them I'd think that atleast a few hundred thousand would be in a mint issue pack? These will be as scarce as hens teeth once issued? It is very hard to even find the poppy $2 coins but they can be found as they are not stand outish??
I am thinking that these will be worth 3-4x their issue price inside of 12 months??
Any thoughts??
I am thinking of buying 30 of them from RAmint
actually on the mint site they say mintage is unlimited???
The one from the RAM in the card is a different reverse, having a C mintmark and unlimited mintage. I doubt it will ever be scarce. The circulation coin on the other hand may appreciate quite well. I certaintly wouldnt buy 30 of the c mintmark hoping to get rich. I would imagine it may be many several years before you could sell them for more than their issue price.
I agree with enworb. I think the circulation coins will be rare in circulation pretty quickly. Hopefully they get distributed fairly evenly across the country (or just in my backyard! :yahoo:)
Please be advised that the RAM will be taking PHONE ORDERS for these UNC Circulating No Mintmarked coins with effect 21 June 2013. Limit one bag of five coins per caller.
I tried this day to order and was knocked back.
Busy phones come Friday me thinks.

With two million of them, they won't be running out, surely?
Can you call twice and get 10?

No, but you can get your family to all call for you. ;)
Good idea!
Family, friends, and employees is the modus operandi over here.-John
So what's the phone number?? My birthday is Friday so it would be nice to get a hold of a few. How much will the bag of 5 cost??
RAM direct sales number is 1300 652 020. Have your credit/debit card number available as well. I believe it is one packet of five coins per caller.

Only a limited number will be made available for phone orders. Am still waiting response from the RAM if these packets will be made available over the shop counter as well.
Once I get the response, I shall post it here.
I am hoping to collectively pick up at least 5 bags. Is there any idea of times that the mint will open their lines??
Check the website to be sure but I believe it's 8.30AM.
Goldseeker do you happen to know the price yet?
I am sorry but I can't reveal anything until Midday, Friday, 21 July 2013. All will be revealed then.
Does that mean sales won't be until midday then?? Thanks for all the info guys and gals
Has anybody found out any further information regarding the possible sale of the circulation version of these from the RAM? Any idea on price, delivery etc?

*SIGH* I can't believe I broke down and paid the $12.95 for this one today... but they sure are purty! :)

Don't forget fulvio, the coin you just paid $12.95 WILL be different from the circulating $2 coin in that your coin has the "C" Mint Mark whereas the circulating coin has a "full stop" where the "C" is.
That is two different coins.........

Yeah, I knew that. Ever since I went searching for a standard coin pic for the mintages list.
One more sleep.. are we all excited yet? Though having seen the packaging the Canberra 20¢'s came in, I'm not overly impressed with the prospect they'll do these the same way. :(
I'm very excited, hopefully I get them and don't miss out. When will details of selling time and cost be listed??
Details are up on the RAM website now. Packs of five for $10.

The RAM is jammed!!
PPH and I have just snaffled a bag each from the RAM phone sales centre. PPH is beside herself at the idea of a purple coin. lol.
Woohoo! Ordered mine. Just confirmed that 10,000 of these coins are made available for the sale through the phone order process.
Limit 1 each. :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo: 6 or 7 phone calls later.
I am busy asking people in my office to help me order a few more....getting some strange looks and not many positive responses.
I wonder if it's a sealed bag. Might be advisable to keep them sealed if it is and it's a limited release.
I had to leave my name and Ph No and they're supposed to call me back. That was at 8.35, no call yet. :dodgy:

Trying again they said the same to me,I left my details then rang and got thru
Giddeee up, just got my 5 $2 coins, these are gunna be the bomb, also got my Black Caviar 2 coin release at $225.
Yey. Managed to pick up a bag.
Nancy, did the same thing as Mark - just keep trying the number.
Pedro
Mrs. Robster scored for me.! Yay.!!
A few colleagues have left their details awaiting call back....I guess given that they have limited the supply to 1 bag per person, if you leave your name you will likely get a call back.....hmmmm
I don't like to be greedy, but I got my 1 bag of 5, would it be greedy to ring back and get another 5 then another 5 and so on??
I think these coins will be worth probably $30 each given the price rises you see on Ebay for 20 20c centenary of Canberra coins etc, 20 20c pieces going for close to $20 or $1.40ish individually??
These$2 coins definitely got to be worth way more than face value?
yep I left my number then did as suggested above ring back.

I doubt they'll let you purchase again using the same name and credit card number. Not so soon at least.
Agree with Markn. I was contemplating doing the same thing, but don't have access to my wife's credit card. I knew I shouldn't have slept in this morning.
I have just put 5 bags on the one credit card. She just had to speak to the 5 different people in the house separately but all in one phone call. I asked how they were being sent and apparently they are all going into a little bag similar to the armaguard ones. There is the potential for them to get smashed up a bit in the post. Hopefully they are all ok.

Our phone lady wouldn't allow us to do that. You got a good one on the phone.
I've placed my order and my son ordered a bag as well. :yahoo:
How weird is this? I got a phone call, when I answered I was told to Press 1 for sales, then it took me though all the rigmarole, it eventually said leave your name and Number and we'll call you back, then IT hung up? :s :shok::scratch_one-s_head: :dontknow:
I rang and then pressed 2. The lady was extremely nice. Took about 5 minutes to get through.

I was told about a 14 day wait to get them but what the hell they will get here at least :yahoo:

I finally got mine ordered. I left my name once. Then rang again another two times and managed to get through the forth time.

I tried to do this as well and wasn't allowed to do it either. I got told I would need individual accounts for each of the people and they would have to ring back each time! Definitely got a good one enworb!
Did the phone lines open at 8.30AM? I tried a number of times and got just got a busy tone then after 9.00AM I got through no trouble at all.
OK, looks like everyone has got through. I would like to know how one member was able to get 5 bags of these coins. I tried for two bags but was told only one bag per registered customer. Strange how some can get more that others.
Sorry for the late response but just got in from shopping.
The "official line" is that orders will not be taken till after 1200pm, Friday, 21 June 2013 and only one bag of five coins per registered customer. Postage costs are $8 normal and $12 Registered. Delivery approx. 10 - 14 days.
I am sorry for not posting earlier but I was given "inside information" and was requested by my informant not to say anything till this deadline. This has now been done.
Good luck to those who attend the RAM and purchase something for cash over the counter as you MIGHT get one of these coins in your change.
How long this type of release will go for I wasn't informed.
Good luck one and all.
Mark and I got our orders with the same phone call. We both have our own customer numbers though. Different credit card, 2 lots of postage -eek. The catch was the computer system wouldn't let her start another order on the same phone call, weird, so she took my phone number and rang me straight back.
I had Mum ring up too and get a bag. She had no troubles even as a non-collector understanding what I was babbling about. purple.........$2........purple.....$2.....hurry...........ring now.......purple
Thanks for the forewarning Goldseeker.
reply from my mint contact>>
Sorry about the delay in reply. As you can imagine we've been rather busy with the release
of this great coin. I can't wait to get it in my change and I work here!
The anniversary pack of 5 are available at face value $10 for a short time only through
our Call Centre. The public will need to pay for postage and we are only able to offer one
pack per customer/customer number. And dealers fall under this same arrangement. We will
not be selling them bulk.<<
I also asked about becoming a coin dealer or something of sorts, so that the coin forum might be able to do orders and stuff, maybe bulk orders could give us an advantage in obtaining future coins, would anyone be interested in something like that?
also the mint updated the FB page
>>Australia's purple striped $2 coin is on its way to the banks and into your change soon. Want to get your hands on uncirculated circulating coins? You can buy an anniversary pack of 5 for a short period of time only. And it is face value $10! Call the Mint's Call Centre on 1300652020 to place an order.<<
so you should be able to see them in you change in a week or two, as the security companies start to circulate them
PPH and I have been working through the process of becoming a RAM dealer. We hope to have something to announce to the forum soonish.
a week or two, I'm not holding my breath :)
Eventually managed to get three bags. Lots of phone calls, they never ring back, and they would only do one person per call. And even though they're all going to the same place, $8 each postage. $24 to mail 100g between two capital cities. And two weeks to deliver????
Honestly, these clowns couldn't organise a boozeup in a brewery. Is it any wonder our economy is stuffed, and Jerry Harvey keeps bleating about offshore sales decimating retail, when service is this bad? They should have shipped the lot off to Hong Kong and let them handle sales from there. We'd have had online ordering, instant 24/7 call centre responses, free shipping, delivery in a week or its free.. the whole ball'o'wax.
Bah! Humbug!
I have been in contact with the "authorities" at the RAM re businesses and dealers can buy bulk like this issue. The answer is simple, No we can't do it. I tried to push for me to be classified as a dealer strictly for members of the coin forum. (Not this forum but the other two that faded into oblivion). The first I was told that to become a dealer, one had to have yearly sales of $10,000 minimum before one could be considered and that coin forums could not classified as businesses. I am sure that was also tried out by another member of one of the now defunct forums and got told pretty well much the same. So to PPH and markn, good luck in your pursuit.

Come now fulvio, we have pushed for a long time for "coin collectors" to get our hands onto new, circulating coins that are still relatively "UNC COINS" rather than wait for coins through the shops and banks etc. To send the coins off shore would cost Australians jobs as per the thought that the ANZ may be doing shortly. Your comments might be more acceptable in that you forward a polite email/letter to the RAM the shortfalls of this release. I am sure that the RAM will listen and this particular issue just may be the start of something new that will eventually, satisfy us all.
fight fight fight fight..yeah I wanna see some biffo :)
I got home and saw this news too late to order today but will ring Monday and. also, try for a couple of orders.
Hopefully the mint will treat these coins with some respect, being what they are, and they will be in good condition. I do not have high hopes for any that turn up in circulation after they have gone through the security firm handling process.
Now to wait and see what happens to the first ones to hit eBay! Expect overuse of "rare", "scarce" "unique" and similar hyperbole in listings.
Jeff
I managed to network six bags, cause I'm not expecting to see any in change

Can't do that as we might get warned or evicted. Everyone is entitled to air their views and all that has been done. Politely etc as it should be.
Sorry just playin :) but I reckon ya could take him goldie :mocking:
This went smashingly well,
I have a question.
Is it possible to buy from the mint, brand new coins like the centenary of Canberra 20c coin?? surely you can walk in to the mint shop and buy them??
I've been to the mint a few times but not recently??
Is this possible? if so I'll organise a mate who lives there to buy me a stack??
I mentioned to the hubby who was going to the pool at lunch time - just down the road from the mint that the coin was being released today
he missed the Gov general but they were giving them out IN CHANGE - you have to buy something from the Mint shop and you get one tossed in with your change
so here ya go - tried to catch the purple as much as I could - it looks brown really
robbie's ONE and only ha ha - it cost the hubby $9 as he bought the Coronation 50c

I had 5 seperate people in my house create an account. All 5 people pai using my one credit card though. Thats how i got 5 bags. I have paid $8 postage for each bag ($40) not $8 postage for 5 bags. I assume i will receive 5 different packages addressed to the 5 different people who ordered them.
well the hubby said that the RAM rulers were selling like hotcakes today!

Nup. I've learned the hard way over recent years that there is absolutely zero point in bothering to complain in this country. They simply don't listen, then you have a fiscal bloodbath like today and everyone wonders why.
What I find especially irksome is that once upon a time, things were good for the hobby. We didn't have truckloads of overpriced garbage alienating people, and you could actually get your hands on real, live, circulating product before it was ruined. You could get notes from the RBA at face value. You could order bulk coin from the mint, and pick it up in person if you wished
(remember my 18 sacks of state coins?). You could swap coins with Armaguard. And you could get supermarkets and the like to either supply or trade coins.
All of that now seems like a different lifetime away. And I don't see that things are any better for the changes. Quite the opposite, in fact. :(
Quote from: 'Fulvio' pid='18899' dateline='1371807337'We didn't have truckloads of overpriced garbage alienating people
That's the thing that worries me the most. It's going to end up like stamp collecting where people collect out of habit rather than out of any real interest. And in 20 years time all the rubbish will be getting sold to coin shops for 10% of "retail". Even now, "retail" for a lot of previously released mint product is often 2-4x what it fetches out in the wild (ie on eBay). It's only going to get worse.

Nope. You used to be able to order anything you wanted, for which they would charge you a flat $50 fee. Then you could have it shipped at astronomical cost, or go pick it up.
But that was knocked on the head in I think 2002. I tried to get the Suffragettes, and they wouldn't do it. So I drove up anyway, and got a couple sacks from various Safeways, and the NAB in Queanbeyan. Bit of a bonus when there were a dozen rolls or so of Volunteers mixed in. :yahoo:

Absolutely, Mark. Its why I gave up on stamps, then much later NCLT when I was offered stuff for half what I'd paid for it. From dealers at a coin show, no less!

A friend of ours who had a stand at an ANDA show one year ruffled a lot of feathers by selling all of his NCLT at 25% of catalogue price. He had big signs up advertising the fact too. More than a few other dealers were extremely unhappy with him.
The sad fact is that 25% of catalogue is usually not too far from being the right price.

maybe
I only ever get the odd new coin
my coin was from the Till at the RAM shop
the Canberra 20c were much more knocked up than i'd have liked them to be as well, they were handled by hand - no gloves, poured into a box and then pulled out and plonked into a bag with the other coins
i doubt if these coins will get any lesser treatment for the packing process
they are only business strikes and treated as that
so they don't get the special treatment
I think if you want perfection then a proof version is probably the only way to get that - not sure if they are making a proof
ps I downsized the original pics - might look a bit better? I was trying to capture the colour rather than have the coin looking more cosmetically appealing

true but in nice grades they certainly aren't cheap
but with this pcgs business ... take that 1970 fifty cent in that last auction - over $2,000 !! and that is a decimal coin!

You can still get great coins raw if you are canny.

I agree trout. There is a big push for slabbed coins. I can see the reason if you are an investor as a third party grade and there value is always handy. Like you said most of the time you can get raw coins from somewhere. $2000 for a 1970 50c is way over the top!

so was this coin from one of those red holders or from circulation..I'm a bit lost as to what's goin on and why someone would pay that :scratch_one-s_head:
A J , or somebody else ,, do you know how to send a picture with a private message please ?? ,, kel ,,
Not sure sorry Kel but you might be able to do it thru tinypic's as I've noticed a thing there for emails and messages..sorry :( Now I'll have to try this..see how I go.
you just attach the picture in the PM as you do for a forum post
I use the link direct type from photobucket
but if it's small enough you might be able to directly upload (not entirely sure as I haven't uploaded in a PM before)
that 1970 was a specimen strike - very nice coin
I have some for my send off wish list as well,
they are a beautiful coin when toned nicely,

just had a look and hit the insert image button and it just flashed so I hit it again and flash but this time I noticed a thing pop up saying "This website is using a scripted window to ask for information. If you trust this website, click here to allow scripted windows" I haven't pressed it yet :-/
I am pretty sure that you cant add pics as in upload them to this site and use the insert option in PM, but I use the add photo link option and that works fine, just use a different site to host your pic :P
thanks AC
photo-link
that must be what I use, as I send pics in PM a lot
I have 2 and I was thinkin about putting one in my type set but now I'm havin second thoughts
It turns out there's been a bit of a misconception about this coin. While the RAM is the second mint (after the Royal Canadian Mint) to release a coloured circulation coin Australia is NOT the second country to have a coloured circulation coin. It turns out the Canadian Mint produced a coloured 50 toea coin for PNG in 2008 which circulated there. So we're actually the third country to have a circulating coloured coin.

I did precisely the same . My wife went onto the phone immediately after I ended my ordering. I then phoned my son and asked to do the same as well as his fiancé. They will do there bit on Monday provided they don't forget.

must admit that I expected a few up last night but didn't see any from the regular mint 1st day of issue peddlers (myself included!! h aha)
I am expecting these to sell for about $25, however the poppy coin sells for about $12 and only 500K of them were released, these purple ppl eaters have 2 mill issued?? maybe more collectable as it is another first, good to see the parliament house 25th anniversary triangular coin I bought for $85 is now selling for over $250.

Amazing how fast the roller coaster seems to move....$23, $8, ???
I'm not sure whether the RAMs "sometimes upheld" policy of restrictive purchasing is a good thing or a bad thing...seems that people will find a way to work around it.
On the PCGS impact on prices, agreed it is going to have a big impact on the cost of collecting. No longer can you look for the dealer at the coin fair with the poorest eye sight and buy their F grade coins which are actually closer to EF.....not that I've ever done that, of course.

I was pondering this morning. ANYONE actually getting this in change, what are the chances they'll actually pass it on and spend it? I think the changes are slim to nothing.

I think it'll end up like the Captain Cook 50c. Hoarded by every man and his dog thinking it'll be worth a bundle. In 30 years it'll be worth.....$2 and they'll start re-appearing in change in good condition as those old money boxes are emptied out.

I almost had a run in with him as well, but came to my senses after checking back through some of his completed sales, such as flogging 'Mule Like $2' coins that were very slightly off centre for up to $70. He uses 2 eBay ID's and I will never ever buy from either. :dodgy: :dodgy:

Oh, I dunno... Same mintage as fed state coins, and what are they going for?
What is like cigarette smoke or sulfur-like smoke?
And if it's not too impolite, what was his second ebay address?
Picked up a 1000 $2 coin bag from my local NAB bank today. Contained only new 2013 coins - generics and a couple of Coronation coins in each red Armaguard plastic bag.
So maybe 100 Coronations in the 1000 coin bag.
Earlier comment in this thread states that there were 500k of the Poppy released. Initial mint info was MINIMUM of 5,000,000.
"...however the poppy coin sells for about $12 and only 500K of them were released,..." (Post #107)
Does anyone know more about final Poppy numbers please?
I think it 500,000 coloured and minimum 5,000,000 non-coloured for the poppies.
More up-to-date figures are due in November I believe.
I am still trying to get to talk to the mint to order a five pack. They put you on hold for 5 minutes, then give a message "all operators busy so please leave your name and number and we will call you back". They don't say when they will call back but it is not within four hours (and counting).
Jeff
Well, finally got through on the fifth attempt and ordered one pack. Tried to see if I could orders for someone else but told only one per customer and any other person wanting any would have to call later. Not sure how others may have obtained multiple.

I had the same issue Jeff. Although when I left my name on Friday they did call me back on the same day although it was 5 hours later and I had already ordered some by then. I also got told I would have to hang up and ring again if others wanted to place an order and that I couldn't just put them on the phone.
No one obtained multiple Jeff. The only way some people have been able to get a few is by having friends and family order them as well.
still trying
we seem to have 2 coronation coin threads!

Don't dispose of those yet and, whatever you do now, don't open the little bags. You have struck the jackpot for this week.
If you don't want them I will take all the coronation 60th ones and some of the other ones.
Official mintage is advertised as 5,000,000. That is not very big. Try to find a 1991 50¢ ramshead in your change -hard? yes/no. Well there were 4.7 million of those.

I got that impression from some previous posts mentioning how many were ordered.
Anyway, not to worry, my wife, my son and my daughter (even though she lives in California but happy to get them posted here) have decided they want some too.
Tomorrow my dogs will decide if they want to buy some too!
Jeff
I got three on the one call. Well, counting the screwups, half a dozen calls, including the voice message that got replied to at 6pm tonight. They handled each transaction separately, so the only saving was two phone calls and a little time. Oh, and I registered a complaint about how the whole process is badly broken, and intend following up with a detailed email later.
Jeff, your dogs speak English? Cos I'm sure the call centre doesn't speak woofer. :)
The answering system seemed to have quite a few glitches; rather variable behaviour on different call attempts. I suspect they may have underestimated the demand.
When I did finally get through I was advised they were starting to catch up with calling back. Will see if they call me today.
A translator is standing by for the dogs.
I rang them early yesterday morning and couldnt get through so left my number but they dont seem to have the capacity to ring me back so I'll have to give up on that idea
They never rang me back and I left a message on Friday. We did ring back though multiple times and got through eventually.
My son & I both left messages on Friday. But we kept trying and both of us managed to get through and place orders, but no call backs have happened.

The new order was in the name of a previously unused family member. When my wife rang and ordered some they entered the surname and all my details came up -saved her having to spell out all the address details.
The chap that called me back was quite chatty and said that $2 coronation (purple) are limited to two coins in change at the mint shop. Also advised they will be having swap days in all the major cities. Apparently they copped a lot of flack from Canberra 20¢ swap days only in Canberra.
I think how you go depends on the employee you talk to and how well (s)he relates to the impression you give.

Yeah, the quality of personnel is immensely variable everywhere, including the mint. You would think employers would try to make sure any customer experiences are exemplary, since it makes a huge difference.
For example, I spent quite a long time on the phone with Kaiser Baas today, following up on last night's support session. I have nothing but praise for them as a result... no BS, they took me, my issues and my proposed solutions seriously, and it was a very positive experience on all counts. I just wish this were the norm, but sadly its very rare in this country. :(
half the problem is whoever you speak to hasn't the permission to make a decision, having worked in call centres I can tell you that what should be an easy job is actually very hard because its more about how and what you say rather than what you actually do, you could have the happiest customer on the planet but if you don't say what they want you to say your considered a poor employee.
And they wonder why call centres have a 100% staff turnover every 3 months

Yep. There are right and wrong ways to do anything, and when it comes to call centres, most fail pretty hard.
Not all, mind you. I've come across a couple where they had the authority to pretty much do whatever it took to get the problem sorted, and it was awesome. I'd have no hesitation pushing business towards any company enlightened enough to get it right, or away from the ones who fail.
In the coin realm, the Perth mint was in the former category, while RAM have proven themselves once again to be hopeless. If only they had each others' product lines, we could all be happy campers. Or if they swapped staff maybe... think we could convince the no-hopers to move west? :diablo:
sorry I am lost , there a new coloured $2 coin but nobody can order one from the mint?
confused??? what is the story?
The coin is only available from the RAM in packs of 5, I think, by phone, one to a customer. You can order if you can get your call through, but if you don't get through, you are put on a call back list. It may be a while before you are called back, and that doesn't always happen. -John
Robbiegirl - must be the operator you spoke to - if I am reading this right! I asked whether I could pick the coins up (albeit using a relative) and the RAM said that was OK. I just need to give them the details of the person collecting the coins.
Pedro
are you kidding?
I spoke to two different people and they said absolutely no
Let us know if that went through as I will be quite cranky!!

I think that was after the RAM contacted the RSL and asked them not to continue with the glue!

Probably RSL members who had a foot in the door ahead of time.
As I understand it and this is from the Staff at ANZAC House, Melbourne: The coins were dispatched in bulk to the State HQ Building and distributed to RSL Clubs for sale with cards and envelopes separately.
I understand that many coins were highjacked by certain RSL employees who were in the "know" so to speak.
I can only relay to you what was notified to me noting that only one coin per person was first issued. Luckily the wife accompanied me to ANZAC House to secure my two.

I'm hoarding them... :)
Has anyone received their coins from the mint yet ?
None for Robster yet.!!

Anzac House in Sydney offer them as rolls in person. They never limited them from that location either. But they had to do one receipt per 5 or 10 coins.
Finally got through, and yep 10 to 14 days wait apparently.. Here's to hoping they don't get to banged up in the post..

Me too :good:
I will be home in 9 days so they should be on my desk then :yahoo:
Just been notified the same thing -my (first) bag despatched today.
Guess what?
The tracking number gives the result "No events currently found". I sent a rather terse reply to RAM.
It is a 12 digit number which means it is registered post and AP's policy says that scanning barcodes on registered is optional for the staff. [Guess how the staff interpret that?]
Does RAM really know what they are doing?
And forget organising a two door dunnie -I think a single will be a test for them. If there is more than one person in the queueIi would go down the paddock and find a tree!
Robbie, Go and commandeer the whole operation -I will offer my full support.
Jeff
PS.
The email address RAM uses for notifications will not accept replies -just bounces them back! That really is good customer service (sarcastic).
My tracking number has no results found either. It's receipted delivery which just means it needs a signature doesn't it although AP is supposed to track EVERY parcel from now on so someone is not following procedure. It's looks bad for any seller when their items are not scanned in.
are they AP articles?
Usually when I use AP tracking it only shows up on the day it's delivered saying that it's in transit from the delivery centre to the destination
quite often tracking numbers aren't updated on APs system and are usually 24 hours behind, only company I know that is always correct is USPS out of the states. Quite often I've got a package and looked on APs site and the item is still in Sydney. It'll turn up they always do.
BTW they are fetching $20+ on Ebay ATM
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2013-2-Coloured-60th-Anniversary-Coronation-Coin/360684434255?_trksid=p2047675.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555003%26algo%3DPW.CAT%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D29%26meid%3D8787971330261433372%26pid%3D100010%26prg%3D1013%26rk%3D5%26sd%3D330946076976%26
I think these once circulated or hoarded will attract $40 plus a coin they will be so scarce.
Prices are a bit variable on Ebay. One seller has recently been offering the Coronation $2 in numbers at $4.95 a pop.
Pedro
Just 1 uncirculated coin will do me where can I buy one not on ebay?

Australia Post have no clue how to do tracking properly. Every parcel I've ever had has said that, even after it was delivered. As far as I can see, the only point to it is to know its in the mail.

If the person behind the counter is "nice", they will scan the barcode. This will record the item as Accepted From Customer at that date and time. You should then see a change in that when it nears it's destination and additional events are listed.
I ask the counter staff to scan all my barcodes. My wife had a real nasty one refuse (big mistake). They said it was up to them if they did or didn't. Gee it takes all of 2 seconds!!! My wife asked for the manager. He took the staff members side and was rude as. My wife took the items to another LPO and they were scanned without even asking!! We lodged a complaint with AP and last we heard the Regional Manager was going to visit the PO concerned. From memory AP's website said that scanning of registered items on receipt from customer was not a compulsory part of the service, but surely common sense prevails, as again, ít takes all of 2 seconds. Note: If you have consecutive labels they can just scan the first and last label and it will register all as accepted from customer.
Give your missus a high five from me. If only more people would stand up for themselves like that, maybe the crappy customer service in this country would improve. But sadly, the majority are sheeple, and will just accept being treated badly.
I have my local PO staff well trained. They scan every barcode so it will show up as accepted in a tracking search.
Usually thought they then forget to cancel the stamps!
Jeff
I got my 5 coins today.
Not from the mint but from eBay
It is strange because I ordered 2x parlement house coins from the mint 4 days after I ordered the $2 coins and the parlement house coins arrived today.
I always have my barcodes scanned upon delivery to the Post Office. However, if the agent doesn't scan, then I ask for it to be scanned. No problems.

The coins are only available by telephoning the RAM.-John

Mine arrived today in country Victoria!
This is what the bag looks like
[attachment=2111]
I just got 9 bags of $50 from the bank. All the coins are 2013 UNC but only about 2 or 3 in each bag are the purple ones. They have quite few more bags. The real pain is I don't have enough money to get all of them, nor enough time until next week to sort the bags out, return the normal ones and then get more bags. They all seem to be in very good condition, better than the average banged up armaguard bag of new coins. For anyone in Adelaide the CBA on the Pulteney Street end of Rundle Mall is the place to hit. They have about another 30 bags.
enworb, how many coins are in the bag you receive over the counter? And are these the same coins that the RAM were selling by phone sales a few weeks back?

What material are the bags? Coin safe?
Jeff
The ones from the mint look like the same material that armaguard use. Dunno what type of plastic it is but its pretty soft so maybe not healthy for coins?
That's what I was thinking.
My 5 arrived this morning and are now safely stored away. Just waiting on my other couple of bags to rock up. 2 had a couple of small markings that look to be some kind of stain but not sure. I will post up some pics when I get my camera back.
My final count was 46 coloured. They are actually in quite nice condition, especially compared the the standard 2013 aboriginals which were mixed in the bags. Perhaps the mint took slightly more care with these than usual.

LDPE - Low Density PolyEthylene.
Same stuff all coin bags are made of, in various grades.
And yes, absolutely inert and safe.
Three bags (of 5 coins each) arrived today. A few more to come.

haha purple like the queen lmao, my missus finally got through to order a bag for herself but apparently because she wasn't registered with the mint, she couldn't be sold any. I just find it strange because my mum called up the other day and ordered a bag with no registration with no probs, same as myself.

Must be up to each operator who answers the phone or the RAM has put a stop to immediate registrations.
So, my aunt's coins got delivered today, and the postie didn't hang around for her to open the door. The card said to pick them up from the business centre, not the post office around the corner. And she had no idea where that was, or how to find it.
Guess who got to do the legwork? So, seeing as how I was going for a drive, I took my latest sack of rejects with me, planning to go trade them in. And just for lol's, I figured I'd try my luck at a different branch, just in case.
Just now, I slit the Armaguard sack open, and started pulling bags to weigh (had too many shortages not to bother)...
And nearly had a heart attack when I saw the glint... not the purple coins though, but poppies. A full sack of them!
WoooHooo.... :)
Now.. sack's already open.. open the bags and check for errors, or leave them be? Decisions decisions...

I might be forced to tidy this desk after all. ;)

Heh, biggest problem is I've got all these projects here...
A planned thread on Roadkill.
One on Split Rims.
An Everest-sized stack of peels to properly bag and tag.
...and so on and so forth.
So I can't just shovel them into bags and be done with it. :(
I reckon id keep a couple bags and split the remaining and check for errors or particularly nice coins.
Mmmm.. well, I just got off the phone with a mate of mine (who I'm hoping to get into the forum), and he talked me out of a bag at double face value. As we were talking, I was "rolling" them in the bags to stop them bagging any further, and I had a good look at a few. Didn't see any cuds or fills at all, so I reckon the whole sack is pristine.
Which kind of makes sense I suppose. The errors I've seen all seem to be from early in the run, judging by wear and tear. These must be from the tail end, and clearly they had it right by then.
An unexpected benefit of resealing my rejects neatly is that I can spot them across the room.
I went back to see if there was another sack of poppies this morning (sadly, there wasn't), and the teller tried to give me back my own rejects. Back in the old days, I would have wasted hours re-noodling junk. ;)
That's why I alternate the coins I noodle every week. Old ones have already been sent back.
Of course, if you live in a metropolitan area you have a choice of many bank branches around.
Quote from: 'JeffH' pid='20563' dateline='1373082873'...you have a choice of many bank branches around.
True. But as part of my "be nice to tellers" policy, I don't want to clean them out. Swapping the same denomination makes it much easier and gets them on-side.
That said, I do also swap banks and alternate between coins and notes, particularly when in foreign territory. Then I'll take coins to bank 1, swap for notes, go back to the car and noodle them, go to bank 2 and turn them into coins. Back in the old days I even swapped between Chubb and Brinks clients, so I wouldn't eventually see my own rejects. ;)
Now it seems a single site deals with one security company, mostly Armaguard, so that las trick is no longer relevant.
Get in quick, if you want to sell some, before the market is flooded

I think the poppy coins and these purple coins will be worth keeping but only in UNC grades.
Once these see some circulation they will become quite ordinary.
The poppy being our first commemeritive $2 coin and the purple jobbie being our first circulation coloured coin tend to make them special and collectible but only in top grades in my opinion :ok:

Absolutely. Comparing the UNC ones to the ones that I snagged out of previous sacks its amazing just how quickly they degraded.
I actually wonder if they've changed the planchets in recent years. I still see 20-30 year old coins circulating in much much better nick than current coins that have been through only one or two pockets/tills. :(

Re the Coronation coin.
I am seeing a number of UNC coins with the purple enamel missing in places or may have come off! Is anyone else seeing this?
The Mint's exclusive colouring proces may be somewhat flawed.
I say that this coin is the most beautiful coin the Mint has ever produced for general circulation, and will no doubt pick up an award or two.
Also the 2013 generic $2 coins are certainly the "brightest" I have seen.
Almost appear to have been polished extra well before release.
Four low mintage $2 coins to add to your collection.
1. 2011 (generic) - 1.8 million?
2. 2012 (generic) - 1.8 million?
3. 2012 Poppy which I believe has been re-issued. Mintage much greater than the minimum 5 million?
4. Coronation - 2 million
Now have one gross of Coronations and hope to add to that total this week.
Don't think they'll be around much longer as they seem to disappear
once they are handed out in change.
The only ones I am finding are straight from Security Co baggies.
Happy noodling!

Ooooh.. a full sack? Not mixed with standards? Where did they show up?
Most were collected since Tuesday (over the past two days) in Melbourne's outer suburbs.
A lot of work; as some banks get the new coins and other branches within the same bank do not!
Just happened upon two branches that get the new coins. (Although I travelled across to South Melbourne
without any luck!)
Each time a 1000 coin bag (40 baggies) was purchased and yielded between 53 and 220 Coronation coins in each 1000 coin bag. The last two lots (today) both yielded around 160 Coronations each.
They are out there. Just need to get the local knowledge and talk to the friendly bank staff.

Ahhh.. Phew.. the 10% theory still holds then. Maybe they built a bagging machine with two chutes to drop a couple in every bag of standards? Would they actually bother to do that I wonder????? Until someone finds a full bag, that's the only theory I can think of.
Can just anyone walk into a bank and request 1000 coin bags?
Quote from: 'runway' pid='21070' dateline='1373543670'Can just anyone walk into a bank and request 1000 coin bags?
Not a Thousand, no. They don't carry $50,000 in stock. Anything over $5,000 needs advance warning.
But you can pretty easily get one sack of 40 bags
(1,000 $2 coins = $2,000) at a time from most branches. Certainly the bigger ones in shopping centres. You want a branch that consumes rather than generates coin. Most suburban branches, especially near schools, generate lots and lots of coin, so you'll never see an Armaguard bag, let alone a full sack. And that means no new coins.
On the flip side, when there's nothing new in the wind, these branches are good for NCLT stolen and/or dumped into circulation. Things like round 50¢, $200 gold coins, paper notes and the like turn up more often in these places.
Oh, and you need to be a customer, or they will charge you fees.

Then y'got two choices....
Either bite the bullet and order a large enough quantity that they'll
have to bring it in...
...or...
Do a deal with somebody better positioned to either pick it up on your behalf, or perhaps even pre-noodle to get rid of the junk.
A sack of $2 is a whisker over 6.6Kg. You don't really want to be shipping it unnecessarily. I'd typically retain about 10%, apart from lucky finds like the poppies. So to get a sack of keepers, you'd be wading through 66Kg of coins and rejecting most. And the ratio holds for other denominations of course.

1007 Coronation coins.
Not finding any (well - only 4 out of the 1007) in circulation. Coins have only been found in Security baggies (Armaguard) from the banks.
There really should be a million or two out there in moneyland, but I suspect that as soon as shopper gets one, they put it aside.
I hear the story a lot that a "customer had one but did not want to pay with it."
All of a sudden everyone is a coin collector!
Whoops! :-/

Which monarch would that be?
I got my first one in change today. It was very banged up already. I spent it again it was that bad.

What banks and retailers are best to find the new coins?
My bank CBA gets nothing new but Shell service station run by Coles sometimes surprises me
Is this coin sponsored by the gambling industry? It looks exactly like a casino chip.
Quote from: 'runway' pid='21352' dateline='1373715962'What banks and retailers are best to find the new coins?
Ah, well, that's complicated.... There's a trick involved, y'see...
First, you need a bucket of chicken entrails. Then you need to find an Armaguard truck. Smear the chook guts on the windscreen. Quickly spin three times in a clockwise direction, face towards Mecca, point your right big toe towards the departing truck. Now draw a line on a map in that direction. Cross-reference all shops and banks along that line, and the third one from the right will be the one that has them.
But be quick about getting there, because they turn into bats at midnight and fly away, never to be seen again. :dodgy:
Alternatively, you could try new batteries in the old crystal ball... that worked last time. :yahoo:

Hi Runway, as with most forums there are clowns inspired by various subtances!!
My first 1000 $2 coin bag was from NAB. Subsequent coins were from Westpac. As for retailers etc, you really need to try and identify customers of the banks who take large amounts of coins.
Developing a "relationship" with the Banks and Retailers is very much to one's advantage.
e.g. Last Sunday a local retailer and large bank customer rang me and offered 30 coronation coins. By the time I got to the shop the number was 50 coronation coins. Why did this happen? Because I showed the person that coin and shared my enthusiasm for it. The person asked for my phone number and said they would call when they found some coins. Conversation was on the Sat and they called on the Sun. btw I have known this person for more than 15 years.
My first bag came from NAB. I was in the branch asking about new $2 coins and the teller said that they did not have any and said that when something does show up he would give me a call. Five days later (25/6) he called saying that he had new 2013 $2 coins. (At that time I did not know about the Coronation coin.) I was not interested in 2013 $2 coins but said I would take the lot because I thought that if I reject this bag, he will never call me again. It is when I collected the bag that I first saw thew Coronation coin. In that 1000 coin lot, there were 53 Coronation coins.
Re Westpac - I have been a customer for over 13 years and know the people in the branch, who all know I am a keen collector of coins.
About a year ago I was offered 46 1966 50 cent coins by my local branch. I took the lot for $26.
I carry a Coronation in a capsule every where I go. In every place where I exchange money for goods I ask if they have any of these and show the Capsuled Coronation.
46 x 1966 50 cent coins for essentially face value!! Wow what an incredible score!

Yup, that be me.. but no substances, various or otherwise. :P
And seriously, there is absolutely
NO way to predict where the darn things will show up, and when. The people who know will not tell you, under any circumstances. I've hit three adjacent banks a couple of hours after their deliveries came in, with completely different results. One of the three got ALL of the new coins, the others only got rubbish.
As for supermarkets and large retailers, they now have coin dispenses which spit out loose coin. Again, no way of knowing what's inside, and they will not pull coin out for you.
I was only half joking about the voodoo. It really is that dodgy nowadays.

oooooo cool :)
I finally got one in my change in Perth yesterday. A bit of the purple has already come off so but I'm holding onto this one until I get something a bit better. Still waiting to hear from my sources at Westpac and Bankwest if they get any bags in.
Total Coronations is growing.
More today I hope!
:)

I think it was probably just a lazy operator. Have three "full" bags out of the same sack. (3rd sack from this bank this week.)
Previously the highest number of Coronations per baggie was 15.
I have a friend who is also collecting (similar number of coins that I have) and he has not seen a full baggie yet.

Gotta find a bank that gets new coin and ask them if they have new purple coins, if they say yes your in luck, if not move on to the next.

I can relate, but its not like you're spending it, just changing its form temporarily.
From 20,000 coins, I now have a whole 8 coronations. None of my friendly coin-consuming branches have had any new coin, apart from that sack of poppies they had lying around the back of the vault. So its not just a matter of finding coin consumers rather than generators, its also the luck of them not getting all recycled coin in their deliveries. Maybe next week, with any luck...
It's great that the mint has released such exciting $2 circulating coins for us to find
you guys are amazing
I admire the total dedication
there are a few decimal collectors in my coin club
and yep, they relay the same search stories
fortunately being a pre-dec collector it is down to auction lots and if I was totally dedicated - going out to farms to search the tractor shed for old milk canisters of coins!
Quote from: 'robbiegal' pid='21941' dateline='1374186543'...it is down to auction lots...
To me, predecimals, like NCLT, simply don't give the satisfaction or "thrill of the chase" that current circulating currency does.
Sure, there are beautiful specimens, and I quite like the predecimals I do have. But basically anyone with deep enough pockets can just go out and buy them. Where's the skill or fun in that? And when it comes to noodling, buying a bulk lot in the hope it may have something worthwhile in it just isn't the same as bringing home sacks from the bank and finding something rare and unique.
Its like paying to fish in a concrete tank, vs going out to a wild river and doing battle with a wily and elusive opponent.
QuoteIts like paying to fish in a concrete tank, vs going out to a wild river and doing battle with a wily and elusive opponent.
I tend to disagree with that statement old Mate :ok:
you just have to look at what Steve (The Repatriator) has been able to achieve and I have personally been able to get some really nice silver coins at Melt price , I tend to call this "eBay noodling".
Where I live noodling is a crap option from the bank :dash1:
I know you Goldie and others do really well, But you blokes live in the "Big Smoke" and have a huge option of banks.
I on the other hand live in the bush and the only noodling win I have had is from the occasional change from different boozers on various minesites Australia wide :good:
So by saying that pre decimal collectors are "Shooting fish in a barrel " Is a bit unfair Mate
for years now, I buy penny/lots and treasure hunt
I get a lot of satisfaction at finding that hidden unc 1911 penny in a lot
I guess I see it as a test of my skill in finding good coins in dirty old penny bags, a lot of people miss those unc coins in lots, I can assure you of that having found them after the dealers have had their pickings - and there is a certain skill required to identify, find and grade them
it is each collectors preferences , no more no less
QuoteI can assure you of that having found them after the dealers have had their pickings
I tend to feel that a lot of the dealers have lost their "Passion" for coins and tend to just look for the rare dates in bulk lots, I can understand this because they have to "Pay the rent" .
But seriously finding an "Unsearched" lot of pennys now is like finding hens teeth or winning lotto
Got my second today from the same place, a humble curry kitchen in Perth's inner-northern suburbs. I am getting reports from all my friends that they have found one and they are keeping them. I haven't seen such an interest in coin collecting for a very, very long time. Banks on the other hand are finding them rare to come across by, my sources say the only usually see one or two a day.
true Trout
but to be frank, I personally believe that most dealers have never had a passion for the coins, the passion is for the dollar and how much they can get out of you - the coin is a mere commodity and we, dear sir, are simply the vessel for that monetary transaction
I was at our coin show the other week-end helping our dealer (as we do - to keep the show going)
anyways, a couple came in with the hubby's collection - he can't collect anymore due to his health
so our dealer paid good money to the couple, as he does (he is from the old school of honesty)
and later when my hubby sat and had a look through, for example the 1920's - out of about 20 coins there were 3 double dots and it went on like that for the other varieties
so yes, they are out there in the public collections
but the big fellas like watchco and the like, regularly cruise the country areas, big newspaper advertisement, they usually follow the shows but don't attend them, then they set up in the motel, pay little for the lots and laugh all the way to the bank
one fair lady who I know was offered something like $25 for a Foy and Gibson's bag by them, no sale of course
I am afraid that I am a bit of a sceptic after my years of collecting
Quote from: 'trout' pid='21985' dateline='1374210955'Where I live noodling is a crap option from the bank :dash1:
Good point.
OK, make you a deal then... :mafia::mafia:
I'm happy to pick up an extra sack of whatever I'm noodling (
currently $2) for you. I'll weed out the garbage and send you what's left. Your cost is face value plus postage. And I promise not to steal anything out of it, though I reserve the right to preselect which bag is yours before opening them. If I score two sacks of UNC coronations, one's yours.
Everything you get will be of some interest, though it may vary from minor doubling to major cracks, cuds or split planchets. Oh, and low-mintage years. Exactly the same as I do my own batches, except unsorted. That's your job.
Interested?
Quote from: 'robbiegal' pid='22012' dateline='1374222604'...the passion is for the dollar and how much they can get out of you...
I couldn't agree more. The overwhelming majority could just as easily be selling used cars or anything else. And even the few who start out as passionate collectors become jaded and worn down by the need to pay the rent. Not sure which is worse, actually... :dodgy:
yeah Fulvio
I remember when I was younger I very easily got work in barmaid work
why?
well, besides being drop dead gorgus ha ha
- my viability to the hiring publican was that I was not a drinker
- no issues with temptation
I know many dealers are collectors but in the scheme of things - it is a numismatic product and they have to move it
Quote from: 'robbiegal' pid='22015' dateline='1374223567'well, besides being drop dead gorgus ha ha
Pictures or it didn't happen! LOL!
I actually don't mind the ignorant ones too much. It means they don't know what they have in their books, and you can score a great bargain.
The ones I truly dislike are the ones who are both knowledgeable and unscrupulous. They pay pittances, charge fortunes, lie and cheat. Once I identify one, they get crossed off my xmas card list permanently, and I steer people away from them at every opportunity.
In the investment world there is a saying,
"always leave something for the next man". The good dealers do this, realising there is more to be gained from the repeat business and recommendations of happy clients than from ripping suckers off for every last cent possible.
That's the way to pay the rent. After all, you can't get blood out of a stone, or money out of someone who refuses to come into your shop cos he knows you're shonky.

Firstly, welcome aboard! Do tell us a bit about yourself if you wish. We don't bite.
I'd put the eventual value of these up in the ten dollar range, because I think they will wear terribly. Quite apart from people dipping them in acetone, just general wear and tear will ruin them in no time. Plus, they have piqued non-collectors' interest, and are being hoarded as soon as they surface. This should make them tough to find after the initial release phase is complete.
I'm certainly keeping all I find, and would only contemplate sales if I scored a full sack of them, which is unlikely. My haul to date is 15 in RAM bags, 5 UNC and 3 circulated, from over 20,000 coins.
QuoteQuite apart from people dipping them in acetone,

You did ask, I did it and NOW you are bitching ?
Most of these coins will be hoarded much like the Cook specimens and the 27 florins , the only difference is the cook specimen coins are actually a lower mintage than both of these coins and still regarded as junk coins by many
did it come off with acetone?

Now where is this coin you ask.
OK Find a CBA branch that has its own customer operated coin counting machine, all the coin that comes in through it gets bagged and cleared, they order in all of their coin requirements, The teller I spoke told me that all of there coin is brand new.

Finally found my first coronation coin. Went to ANZ in a small shopping centre. Asked for $200 worth of $2 coins. Teller said that is all they had in the bank. She gave me the 4 bags (in bank bags). Thought to myself I wouldn't find any as they would have already been counted. Found 1, and 7 poppy coins. Over the moon now. Bought 5 of RAM and 5 of Ebay. Up to 11 now.
I think I have a mild form of OCD, I get something in my mind and I am like a dog with a bone.

Yes a supposed mintage of 2 mill (same as my Canberra florins), I honestly cannot see a correlation there
Finally scored a few bags today. Not a lot of coronation errors, apart from the
Uncommon Die Fills (tops of ELI ETH II AUS 3).
However the accompanying standard 2013's have the following:
Uncommon Die Fills (tops of II US)
Common Rim Spur (adjacent to flowers - 25-30%)
Rare Brow Cud (2 examples, plus one pre-cud subsidence)
Rare 2 Cud (1 example, 1mm+ vertical from base of 2, plus subsidences)
Plus a couple of strike-through flaws.
Not a bad haul, overall. :)
Sounds like a good noodle Fulvio ....... any chance of some pics of those errors (just for us country folk that just see old coins :hi:)

I am selling them for $10 a pop too on Ebay but only enough to recoup my initial outlay for all the $2 coins, the rest I'll hold as I too think that in 12 months or so these will be fetching $15+ easily.
I wonder how much the little 5 coin RAM baggies will fetch the scalpers

Ta mate. Its coming along slowly...
Now using FileMaker Pro rather than Excel for the labels. Coins get packed tight in acetoned bank bags, weighed, FMP prints weight, count and value on the tag, along with QR and a pic if its an error. Bag gets sealed, top half gets recycled for loose coins. Meanwhile five rolls go into heavy LDPE Armaguard bags and sealed into a brick, which gets stashed into a second Armaguard bag. Total cost one sheet of paper and a little acetone for two bricks. :)
The webspace is split into denominations. Individual types get their own folders, as do error types, and individual coins for the rarer errors. Not hard, just a little tedious, but eventually should be self-cataloguing so it will save work in the long run.
Lots of good recycling going on there. Those Armaguard heavy duty bags are good eh, tough stuff. My use for them is bulk storage at the moment, so much sorting out to do ........ as my moto says ....... one day I'll get there!!!
Been upside down under the magna all morning pulling out the whole cast crossmember and replacing (which means exhaust, engine mounts and steering rack etc too). Worst part so far was the ball joints on the control arms, but got them.
Quote from: 'Unicorn' pid='23229' dateline='1375076622'Those Armaguard heavy duty bags are good eh
Absolutely brilliant. I carefully slit just below the handle, long enough to get a hand in. Then they serve as coin carry bags until they go in the recycle pile for eventual sealing. I get lots and lots of use out of them, believe me. :)

I'll take that suggestion on board Robbiegal, I can't stand the sneaky little blighters. She had a lovely stripe and 2 egg balls, round part of her body was a bit bigger than 5c size, so a pretty decent size.

Robster, Dr Evil will have to get you. Fair dinkum. My ex-partner's dad was Captain of the Goulburn Pistol Club. His dad was gunsmith at the Goulburn Gun Shop. I used to shoot trap with the Goulburn Gun Club and remember shooting next to this little chubby kid (all of about 8) with a shortened stock Beretta who used factory Black Ranger cartridges (which kick like a mule). Guess what, (sounding like Shane now), he was Michael Diamond.

He has a stunning career of 2 Olympic Gold medals, 4 World Championship Titles , 2 Commonwealth Gold medals , 2 Commonwealth Team Gold medals and won Gold at many World Cup Titles in a career that has already spanned over 30 years .
When I did swimming training as a young teen my aim was to be as good as Shane Gould but I wasn't built like a brick - 'you know what'
anyways, we had local interclub comps, and at the swim club up the road there was this little kid - probably about the same age and boy she was like a fish in the water

Sulla, it was during a standard pistol match (.22 cal) 5 shots per turning target @ 25m. Each target scored separately. My only perfect target. Got a round of applause when that target was scored. Was using a Margolin semi-auto.
My favourite match was Service Pistol, which they added later to with Action matches. Very fast with several reloads lots of baracade, stance and distance changes etc during the time limit. Using a Ruger Security Six .357 magnum and speedloaders.

It's lovely to think on things like that Robbiegal, puts lots of things into perspective. For example, you'd know how hard the "I want to be good at this" swimmer trains.
Likewise, I'd know how black little Michael Diamonds shoulder would have been a couple of days after a decent shoot out.

Blame the mint and Armaguard for the terrible way they're distributing them. If everybody who wanted them could get them easily and at face value, there would be no obsession.
Frankly, I find the standard 2013 $2 errors
FAR more interesting. In comparison, the coronations are just sloppy. Sure, I want them, but they're not very good, and neither are the errors, which apart from the one pink one we know about are all just die fills.. which also are a mark of poor workmanship.
As for wanting lots of them, it boils down to a belief that they will be very rare in good condition. In much the same way I put away sacks of 2001 state coins (also sloppily made), I intend putting away any of these I can get my hands on.

Finely found one yesterday been looking all week. The other half had a envelop full of coins from fund raising for day care scored the 2012 poppy as well. Also got a good score of $1 coins. Hope to get to the bank this week the two westpacs near me have had lines out the door since internet banking went down midweek.
Those beautiful Coronation coins are still out there numismatists / numismatologists !
Best bet is your local bank on armoured car delivery day.
Best bank for me has been Westpac.
That pile is getting BIGGA ......... (who's postcode happens to be 2583) ....
I have 6 of these little ones and as i was searching for these ones i found 2 poppy coins:)
Well done to everyone who finds any of the commemorative $2 :)
Coronation coins are still out there but the Armaguard security bags are now containing fewer Coronation coins,
mixed in with the new 2013 generic $2 coins.
Previously average per bag was about 4.5 coins; average now is about 2.0 coins per bag.
If it was not for finding them in security bags it is almost hard to believe that this coin actually exists.
Still not seeing any in change. Local shops reported seeing one or two a week ago, but nothing over past week.
Strange that they have disappeared so quickly?
Have not had any luck here. Tried 3 Westpac banks this week one of them I found out never hardly orders any extra change in and relies basically on deposits. My local newsagent told me he has 4 also rang RAM about the 5 coins in a bag and was told the offer stopped two weeks ago. Will give it another nudge this week feeling lucky.
Don't think any coloured ones will make it to the general public :)
Quote from: 'runway' pid='24464' dateline='1376138616'Don't think any coloured ones will make it to the general public :)
Not so. I've found a couple in recirculated bags, so they've been round the track at least once. Keep in mind there are two million of these things, and they are being rationed. Not
ALL of them will end up in Sulla's pockets. :P
What I mean Fulvio is that Mr General Public would even know these coins exist and shopkeepers who see these will keep them not everyone is looking out for them coz they don't know and most people don't go to banks asking for bags of coins
Interestingly, I know two other collectors who have found similar amounts to what I have.
The issue here is that "general public" (GP) has become a coin collector.
Many times I have been told by a shopkeeper that GP has a coin but when GP sees it, it goes into another pocket.
I think that only the high volume cash stores (supermarkets etc) will generally order from the banks or security companies and they don't really have time to sit there
and pull out the coins they want to collect.
I have a local store that has provided me with about 700 coins from security bags. The owner kept 200 coins and was happy to collect some for me. Prior to my info they were not aware of the coin. However, the storekeeper has had a basic interest in numismatics for many years, and can understand my enthusiasm for this coin.
If you want this coin, you have to go to the banks and ask for security company (red) bags of the new 2013 $2 coin. I thought that the average per bag was becoming much lower, but my "storekeeper" who gave me 200 coins yesterday, found one bag with 18 Coronations yesterday morning. I predict that once the source dries up (very soon), this coin will become even rarer and more expensive than it is now!
I am now no longer seeking this coin!
Time now to rebuild the finances and get on with another project!
Happy hunting!
If i collected 3&1/2 thousand of them i'd be moving on too,i think the coins should have been more evenly distributed around the country,i think the mint should have taken control of the distribution of this particular coin & not let the security companies distribute them.
I've & many many others in QLD have not seen these coins in circulation.

Good onya Ron & a nice find too.:good:
Good find :)
I got one on friday but the teller had to save it for me :(
Dear Numismaticians,
The reason I have "collected" this coin, is because this is the first time that I have had my finger on the pulse with a coin release.
I normally only collect $1 coins in rolls, but when I heard about the 2011 $2 (Aboriginal Elder) with a potential release of 1.8m and the 2012 $2 (AE) with a potential release of the same 1.8m, I developed an interest in these "potentially" rare coins. I worked very hard noodling for those two coins and ended up with about 153 X 2011's and around 300
2012's. I just missed out on the security bags for 2012, but managed to swap a couple.
So when I found out about the Coronation coin (quite by accident), I became somewhat obsessed with it.
The recent low release $2 coins are the first collectable coins I have chased with a passion. (I do believe that the 1.8m figure for each will be confirmed in the next RAM Annual Report!) Whereas most of my other coins have been obtained by paying a premium through eBay and dealers etc.
The 2013 Coronation $2 is a wonderful opportunity for collectors to get in on the ground floor, (as they say!) without paying the premiums normally asociated with rarish coins.
Seek and ye shall find!
And btw I do not have 3 and 1/2 thousand Coronation coins!

Interestingly, I noticed the sack doesn't have an Armaguard label. The teller confirmed that they don't use Armaguard, but was cagey about who it is. She confirmed its not Brinks or Chubb though.
So... who ELSE delivers new coin? And how did they get their hands on UNC sacks, presumably from the same source (Armaguard, I assume)? If we can ID them, they just might be approachable, one would hope.
Just a question ? I just acquired a 2013 Coronation piece and also a 2013 standard Aboriginal. Will the Aboriginal be a small issue with the coronation being the same year ??
HHHMMMMMM do I spend $50 and get 5 purple painted coins of Sulla or do I spend $50 and get these 3 coins.
NO contest :yahoo:

However once they hit the retail tills they disappear.
Spoke to a couple of local shopkeepers this morning.
One has collected 4!
The other has collected 5!
40 days since they were released!
I retrieved 103 out of 20 Aramaguard bags this morning.
Total is now 2310.

2310 x $2 coins - wow - over $4,000 in those coins!!

sorry sulla
I found this post with the count at 2310 - I was sure there was another one with the count over 3,000 + more coming - my mistake
my apologies -

Robbiegal, Fordprefect is correct in the statement that previous postings by Sulla have been modified 'after the fact' and the figure of 3214 removed, which of course makes other people's comments look odd.
I know that it was 3214 because previously when Sulla posted 2583 I made a comment that the pile was getting BIGGA (Bigga's postcode is 2583 .... near my old neck of the woods). Anyhow when 3214 was posted I thought I'd continue the postcode comment, so I looked up 3214 as a postcode (Geelong etc).
Anyhow as FP commented, Sulla changed her post to remove the 3214, so to me if any comment indicated a number between 3 and 3.5 thousand I see no need to make an apology.
PS: I couldn't think of a 'sick unicorn' comment relating to Geelong.

At any rate, that's a heck of a lot. This sack so far is running about 2.5 average per bag, with several being single coins. So that's 30+ sacks to get that quantity.

3.5 or 2.5 thousand coins, much the same really, a heck of a lot. I have no idea why anyone would want that many. I cant see them ever appreciating in value. Reckon they will end up just like other commemoratives, heavily horded and continually turning up in UNC condition. Each to their own I suppose but I know that id rather spend $5000 on something a lot more exciting.

The smart move with all them coins would be to flog off half of them a $4-$5 and keep the rest gratis.
As said before 99% these will spend decades in Nannas knickers draw and there will be a plethora of unc-aunc coins at the end of the day.

There is nothing wrong with collecting your favourite coin, I tend to get Canberra florins on occasion
But I don't neglect the other parts of my collections, Or let my fascination with a particular coin stop me from starting new projects and expanding my knowlage :good:
I'm with you Robbie LOL
My whole issue is the distribution of this coin, very poor IMO.
2,000,000 coins, 8 main states , 250,000 per state would have been a better & fairer way so that everyone has an equal opportunity of getting these coins.
If it were'nt for a very generous member of this forum who offered me a few ( Thanks Mate ) ,i would'nt have a hope in hell of getting any of them.
BTW,while at the Ekka mint shop the other day i was talking to a bloke that just bought 6 of the carded variety $12.95 a piece FFS & they looked to me to be regular circulation struck coin ( they certainly did'nt look specimen quality to me ),is that the case ? & if so what a con job that is.
true
I do collect other (junk) stuff
some people though, really do only the collect the one type esp. the high end collectors
I did start off with the 1927 florin (parl house) and the 1937 crown years ago and had quite a few pages of them
then I discovered the humble penny, spent too much $$ putting years sets together and settled then for mainly putting my collection together from sorting through bulk lot purchases, so my collecting style is more about 'finding' a good coin rather than direct purchase & I have a few nice ones from this
no different I suppose to decimal collecting getting bags from the banks and sorting through them for little treasures

Quote from: 'Unicorn' pid='24681' dateline='1376290760'Fulvio .... is your noodling room starting to look like this?
Damn! How did you sneak a camera in there? I better have a chat with the security guards, pronto. :dodgy:
Here's my take on this hoarding (since that's what it really is), FWIW:
We collect objects the value of which is determined by population, age and condition. All change over time, with numbers decreasing and condition worsening as they get older.
The only opportunity to acquire the best condition is at time of release. And the only way to obtain them at face value is in security bags or rolls.
They will always be worth face value, no matter what else happens. There may or may not be a premium, based on total population, distribution, hoarding, etc. But this potential premium is a bonus, IMO. Unlike buying a coin for a hundred times face value, then seeing its value halve, there is always a 100% guarantee of your money back.
I collect errors. Condition may not matter as much as with normal coins, but its still a factor. Finding UNC errors is a major part of the attraction of noodling new coins. Some errors are obliterated by wear, making them hard to find in well-circulated coinage.
Now, take a look at the sack of poppies I got a while back. For a $2,000 outlay, I got a thousand coins. Of which I sold three bags at double face value, for $300. So I now have 925 coins for $1700. The cost of that money is around $70/yr in lost interest. So the break-even point is over four years away. Since the bags are still sealed, they haven't been noodled for petal cuds or other errors, but it is reasonable to assume there are some in there. If the coins are worth $4 each, and say 5% are errors worth $6 each, there is just shy of a $3500 value remaining.
I'd like to see someone come up with equally-impressive numbers for sovereigns. Not that sovs aren't nice, but you cannot get them for face value anymore, can you? Which makes it a completely different kettle of fish, I reckon.
So true,Fulvio that's why noodling in our hobby is very economical and knowledge is a must
You would be the first person who I have ever heard say that noodling is economical. If you ignore time it might be but factor that in and you would be way way behind.
I bought 5 of these coins off eBay a day after they were released.
It cost me just over $20 to get them and they all came in 2x2's .
They arrived about a week before the 5 coin baggie from RAM and IMHO in far better condition as well.
I live about 1/2 an hour from town and to drive into the bank on the off chance of noodling 5 of these would cost me about $20 in fuel.
I only wanted a couple of these for my collection so I gave 1 to my mate at the General store/Post office, stripped the paint off another for educational purposes.
That left me 3 from eBay and the 5 coin baggie from RAM.
I have since sent the RAM baggie off to a good home so that leaves me 3 of these coins.
That for me is plenty :ok:
I can understand the allure of hoarding these with the hope that in the future they will be worth big dollars, That doesn't mean that I agree with the strategy :ok:
Personally I prefer to keep coins that I enjoy and having buckets full of the same coin simply to make a profit doesn't appeal to me .
That is NOT collecting, It IS speculating and there are far more profitable ways of speculating than that.
Meanwhile all the hoarders are depriving the average collector that cannot afford to get their coins on the secondary market, the opportunity of finding these in their change/noodling.
Now don't start throwing rocks at me I am simply airing my view :ok:

When I noodle I don't consider it as 'costing' me anything timewise. If I wasn't noodling, would I be somewhere else earning money? Nope!
Not that I've done any noodling lately, just can't seem to get motivated.
QuoteNot that I've done any noodling lately, just can't seem to get motivated
I can't be bothered getting a mass of coins from the bank and hunting through them.
Give me a bulk lot of old 3d's anyday, I love them little suckers and you can still find some nice errors and rare dates in some lots.:wavemulticolor:
Quote from: 'enworb' pid='24724' dateline='1376349150'You would be the first person who I have ever heard say that noodling is economical. If you ignore time it might be but factor that in and you would be way way behind.
Of COURSE we ignore time. This is a hobby. Just like flying model aircraft or playing golf or racing slotcars. Time is only valuable when viewed in the context of a job or business, and this is neither. Or do you think we should be invoicing time spent watching TV?
As for having loads of a particular coin, well, I for one do this with ALL coins. Its just that the chase for the coronations displaced everything else since their release. And I don't view safeguarding UNC coins from circulation damage as a bad thing, even if others might. ;)
I'm also happy to help others out. If anyone here hasn't been able to get any already, I'll gladly extend the offer I made to Trout on the same basis... one coin, at face value, plus postage. And I'll even extend it further to any coin I've noodled quantities of. Of course, bulk lots are another matter entirely, as they're likely to be commercially motivated.

I recall speaking to a some Melburnians a while back, about the 2000 mule and their efforts to acquire one or many.
One bloke ended up with about 200 and the other with about 40.
The common denominator between them was that they did not sit on their bums wishing and hoping the coin would arrive in their change! No! They went out and looked for it. They hunted and they were rewarded! One went to Burswood and one went to Crown!
It's the same with the Coronation coin. People who want this coin passionately go out and find it! They do not sit around crying, "Woe is me; I can't find any!"
These coins are not just showing up at my local banks. They are all over Australia, because if they were showing up just for me it would take a hundred years for the mint to distribute them through their network! The old saying rings true. "Hard work makes you lucky!"
Have a look on eBay. I found sellers offering multiples of the Coronation coins (or security bags) in NSW, Qld, SA, VIC and WA in only 20 seconds or so!
I am a collector and because I am a collector I am also a speculator! No collector is going to add to the collection at premium prices if the item can be acquired at face value! And if more than one can be found, this can then be sold or traded etc to further improve the collection!
As for the "hoarders depriving the average collector" - what a lot of balderdash! If you really want this coin, go out find it! Can't go out and find it? Well go and buy it!
It's the principle of supply and demand!
Have you driven 50 kms only to find the cupboard is bare?
Fulvio congratulations on your post #501.

Like accu said we DONT all live in major metropolitan centres and if we want a particular coin we DO have to buy the bloody thing and not get it from a bank or in our change :ok:
I admit that I am basically lazy and simply buy the coins I require, But there are Many collectors that have a very limited budget that want these coins that cannot afford the secondary market prices.
Blokes like Fulvio enjoy the hunt and are willing to share the catch with fellow collectors , Now that is a collectors attitude IMHO.
I hate to say it but I feel that you are only into numismatics for the money, If you can get past that you may be able to actually enjoy your coins for what they are :good:

Erm.. yeah, often. I was comparing notes with Goldy the other day, and I reckon we've both noodled similar quantities, albeit with vastly different standards
(and results.. luck does play a big part *sigh*).
The count of these damned $2's is up to 38 sacks now, though having finally struck paydirt, it may be time to switch to the other, long-ignored denominations. Those sacks have come from banks across the eastern suburbs, basically down the full length of the Monash freeway. That's a lot of miles, for not a lot of return, day after day after day.
(Unless you count rolls of well-circulated 1993, 1998 and 2000 $2's of course...)But as others have said, not everyone is able to do this. Whether through geography or health or domestic/work situations or even finances, there are plenty of collectors who can't while away the hours up to their necks in coins.
And that's where the sense of community should come in. When there's a show on, members have
ALWAYS offered to pick up coins for each other, even when there were truckloads of money to be made by hoarding the spoils. And many of us have received gifts, often unsolicited and without warning, simply because someone knew we lusted after something we couldn't easily get for ourselves.
Now, I'm not going to judge. That never has a positive outcome. But I will say if I wanted to corner the market for Year of the Toilet dollars or whatever, I'd bluddy well keep my mouth shut and just do it. I certainly wouldn't post a running tally, but maybe that's just me. On the other hand, if I get lucky and want to share the experiences, then I'm also happy to share the spoils. Not so that someone can get rich off my efforts, but so that
everyone has at least
some chance. And
THAT seems to be the prevailing view among most here, which makes this such a strong community.
Oh, and if you're one of the geographically-challenged who wants stuff to noodle, talk to me. I'm quite happy to help out in any way I can. Or talk to Goldy about his rejects.. there's
GOLD in them thar sacks, trust me.

racism has NEVER been a thing I can live with, I work with all races and creeds and take people on "Face Value".
Colour and race have no impact on me , It is the person that counts :ok:
I have many many friends that are NOT Caucasian (I am pommy born and was snowy white before I came to AUS 45 years ago) I even have an Italian Brother In Law (God forbid) , Most people think I am weird but I tend to treat EVERYONE on their merits .
I sincerely hope that most people can think this way in the future, So that we can just all get along and live together like civilised human beings.
All is good Mate , Just venting

I find the concept of buying a bag of brand new coins directly from the bank a very, very distant 'cousin' to the long held ideals of 'noodling'.! I do not abhor the idea but I am far more impressed by someone who sifts through thousands of used, worn coins to find a particular error, die crack or flaw.!! I have spent years trying to find the perfect bottle of red and I can't imagine no longer visiting the hundreds of small wineries in S.A. looking for that rare gem.!! Isn't that the aim of a collector.???? Just my opinion.

:yeah_what_she_said:
Whilst being able to source a few nice examples of the new issues is great, the joy of finding a coin that is in exceptional condition for its age is part of the joy of noodling. Hitting the jackpot with say a aUNC 1973 50c from a sock drawer, or perhaps a wavy (please please) is the noodler's reward.
I can even recall how a noodler was quite 'sad' that their whole bag of 50c were new 2012's. (CCF). Posting some picks of a few cuds that may be found on the 2012 50c cheered them up.
I'd love to be in the financial position to undertake noodling on a serious level and create a Fulvio style time capsule repository, but I'm not.
Nor can I hoard and create a speculative suppository (c) Peter A .... Canberra ...... oh, my pretties.
I have over a hundred Canberra Florins But I didn't simply walk into a bank and get these.
These have been accumulated over the years , mostly 1 coin at a time.
I could be considered as a hoarder myself
I have however NO intention of selling these coins, I simply enjoy the design and each coin is an individual because of the different grades, toning, Quality of the strike, etc.
I even have a gold plated example :)
I doubt that I have 2 of these coins that are completely identical :ok:
The search for the MS66-67 and a proof coin is still in full swing ( as long as I don't have to pay a fortune for them) and I always have at least 1 of these coins on my eBay "Hit List"
I can understand why someone would want a large number of the same coin But if they were all identical it would boor me to tears :ok:
Well said Trout.!!
There's a huge difference between profiteering & collecting an issue you particularly like/have a soft spot for IMO,in my case it's my birth year & i love seeing an absolutely pristine example & can't resist buying them LOL.
Blah! Blah! Blah!
Above reads like a skulk of foxes looking up at the grapes they cannot reach!
Anyway ~
My local banks do not have the 2013 generic/Coronation mix today. Instead they have the 2012 Generic. I have started a new thread for that coin!
Are the Coronations distributed/finished?
:)

really??
I thought they didn't mint a 1909 aussie coin?
Now thems fightin words RG :laugh2:
"Quick on the draw R.G." LOL.!!
Many people collect "things" for different reasons, each to their own.
My collecting is firstly to collect the best quality coin of each issue, and constantly trying to find a better specimen, secondary to that is the immediate financial reward in getting that coin at face value, and selling it on at what the market is prepared to pay.
I have never seen a 1993 50c piece, then low and behold, I find 2 in 2 days in exceptional condition, then yesterday I get another one better than the first 2.
The purple coin is purely collected by me for its immediate capital gain, if your lucky enough to have collected hundreds or thousands well your going to make a lot of money on it, I have no problems with anyone who does that, after all I have heard someone has 100+ Yr 2000 mules???
Good luck to whoever holds them, especially at $800 a pop??
the 2012 poppy coin ,
not the standard uncoloured circulating one ,
not the R S L one,
but the other one at $ 19.95 each ,

only time will tell as we've seen many a time, things are red hot then next they're not..if your that way inclined I'd advise to just in now while the goin's good as next week the fad might be gone :) I have one that I got a fortnight ago and that was only because the teller found it for me and other banks haven't seen any here so with all these turds taking thousands and thousands out of the pond I can't see me getting any more as the new coins take about seven to eight months or sometimes longer to get here..not that I can afford to put 7K away being stuck on DSP due to no fault of my own :( But I'm so thank full for the nice people here that actually make it worth while being here :)

You really have a knack of making friends and influencing people mate :dash1:
There are NO grizzely foxes here, If a member needs a coin then 9 times out of ten another member will get it for them :ok:
You have to realise that Most of the members on this site are dedicated collectors and NOT totally dedicated to making a fast buck out of coins.
Ok guys
I reckon it's time to maybe call it quits to this thread
opinions are getting stronger and the divide wider
I don't like to see this all round

One rotten apple in the barrel can infect an entire site.
Time to nip this in the bud before anyone gets hurt :ok:
This bloody coin has caused so much drama, I am becoming to hate the freaking thing.
Jeez.... I turn my back for five minutes and you lot turn into a room full of unruly toddlers! :)
FWIW, while I agree with some of what's in the past four pages, I think a few things have been said that shouldn't have been. Don't you guys remember previous flame wars and the fallout from them?
Anyway, just a couple of observations, to get back on topic.
This sack ended up producing just over 60 coronations, with a number of bags having none. I think my previous guesstimate of 100 per sack average is fairly accurate. That would mean there are/were 20,000 sacks out there with them. I know of 11 having been delivered to westpac branches in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. Sulla seems to have hit the jackpot with about 30 sacks somewhere in the North/West. So lets be generous and say Melbourne's had a thousand sacks so far. I would say figure the same for each city, except reports don't seem to indicate that elsewhere.
I don't think we're done with these, by a longshot. The whole point of the rationing would have been to stretch them out for as long as possible, and I think they'll continue turning up for a while yet.
As to noodling, I disagree this isn't noodling. I look at EVERY coin under magnification, and keep anything unusual. Being UNC is just a bonus. One that also leads me to quarantine all of them until the mint reports mintages. I got through three dozen sacks of well-circulated $2 coins before these 2013's turned up, so I DO call it noodling, regardless of what some may think.
With regards to value, as I've stated a few times, I'm not generally a seller, and I have never sold so much as a toothpick on ebay, and never will, because I loathe them. Occasionally people make me offers I can't refuse, like my friend who asked for ten of these coronations. If one day I need to liquidate some or all of my collection, well, we'll see if I've made wise choices on what to keep. But they will always be worth face value, whereas my NCLT and dealer purchases are almost certain to not be worth anywhere near what I paid. That, to me, makes noodling far more productive than shopping.
Value is a subjective thing. Trout's dollars are almost certainly worth less money that they were before he jailbroke them. But to him they have far, far greater value in 2x2's. Much as we may rib him about it, this is a good thing. Nobody else here can post stunning pics of page after page of these coins like he can, and that provides value to all of us. And regardless of his failure to read "How to Make Friends and Influence Others", Sulla's posts have also provided value to us all. What is it the yanks say? "I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"? Wise words, those. Users of the ignore button should ponder them.
This thread has indeed become problematic. If its going to degenerate into name-calling, it probably deserves to die. But regardless, we're not done with these little buggers yet, that's for sure.
Oh, and you better plan ahead for NEXT year's coloured $2. Because you just KNOW this was not just a flash in the pan, but part of a long-term project.

OK I think this thread has had it's run. You may not agree with Sulla's methods but there's nothing illegal with it so let him be. Sulla you have to accept that people here do not like what you are doing. Please try to post something useful or just keep quiet about your $2 coin selling activities.
