Title: $1 coin, possible error?
Post by: Coins from Vending on June 06, 2013, 08:53:24 PM
I've had this $1 coin for a few weeks and think it might be another error, the lettering for Elizabeth is nigh on non existent and the date is missing the 5, the 200 is ok.

Any thoughts??

Darryn

I just noticed too that the raised edge of the coin is about 1mm at its widest and mabe 1/10mm at it thinnest on the side opposite to the wide bit

Easy. Light strike with a filled die. You can see the light strike from the shallow rim. This is a particularly good example of a fill, as you usually only get part of the lettering, or the hair. Definitely a keeper.

Well, it could be a MoR, except I don't think I've ever seen a filled 2005 MoR...

I assumed it had to be a Dancing Man because the OP knew it was a 5 that was missing.

Ah, I see... nah, the fills are never that complete that you can't see what it was. Even in the pic you can faintly make out the 5.

and NCLT = non circulating legal tender - i.e. special mint editions of coins, like the racehorse coin whats' her name - miss 'pink spots

and and
PH - if you're around Trout and Nevol - PH = Parliament House Florin (1927) (Australia)

'noodling ' means looking through modern decimal coins for things , like good ones, errors etc
