Title: 50C coin fault or tampered with???
Post by: Coins from Vending on June 01, 2013, 07:22:10 PM
This 50c peice was stuck in a coin reader of a vending machine.

I was perplexed by its edges, they are all raised an equal amount and on the straight sides they are all chipped an equal amount, then on the back of the coin you can see around the rim where it has a line around the inside of the entire rim, kinda like a stress mark??

I was thinking that it might be a ramstrike error?

I thought that it could be a home job but the stress marks on the back would need massive force to produce and the raised egdes and chipping is all very uniform?
.

Here are some pics, what do you guys think?

Obverse shows fishtailing of the legends, it appears struck out of collar. Very cool indeed!

Definitely.  I'd put the value at $100-$200.  It's not as spectacular as a ramstrike but 50c errors are scarce and that one's a good one.

I have a few other coins with issues but nothing as dramatic as this, they ar emissing letters and dates or are very feint like it hasn't been punched hard enough??

I'd say it actually found me, I got a call from a hospital where I have a vending machine and they said the machine wasn't registering coins, a coin jam it is I said, went over and this 50c peice was stuck it the reader? was going to bank it with the rest but thought no its got to be an error, Glad I kept it.

I've got its evil twin here, except mine's a 2005 Games with the raised corners on both sides instead of just the reverse. I still can't decide about this one either. :dodgy:
