Title: Outback towns and places
Post by: trout on May 11, 2013, 02:02:02 PM
I would imagine quite a few of our members go to some remote and interesting spots in Aus :ok:
I'm At Nullagine at the moment repairing a Mill on a Gold mine.
Here are a couple of pics of the Town itself.

I wish I was in an old gold mining town in the outback, I'm starting to have withdrawals!!! I need to go for a dig somewhere. The furthest outback I have been these days is down Glendons campgrounds west of Warwick..

Do we have any prospectors/fossickers on the forum?

Yep.   I did it for 21 years until my shoulders gave way.   I prospected in Vic, Qld and NSW with some finds to keep me interested.

I have just got back from a job a couple of hundred ks past Hyden in WA.
We have been past this place about a dozen times and I decided that it was about time we took a detour and "smelled the rosses" so to speak.
Quite an impressive rock structure.

Thanks for sharing those Trout.

So you weren't the one shaking the ground yesterday at Koorda (http://www.ga.gov.au/earthquakes/initRecentQuakes.do), you were further south.

Funny isn't it, in the back of my mind I had Wave Rock being somewhere in SA. I was way off the track.

I've worked it out where I got the wave rock impression from. In 1986 when I was in SA on hols I recall seeing mention of wave rock. I didn't have time to go there and always wished I had. I thought it was the one you have pictured Trout (remembered Mike and Mal showing yours on tele when I was younger), but it turns out to be Arkaroo which they refer to as wave rock at times.
Here's the Flinders Ranges one.

The wall is actually not for your safety, but to act as a rainfall catchment, and directs the rainwater in to the storage area.

Puny humans and their safety fences. I'm joking, a bit, but for me humanity is somehow irrelevant in comparison to this.

Yes, attachments are limited to 100kb and 2.96MB is 30 times bigger than that.  Resize your images before you try to attach them Robbie.

oh serious??

I thought a kb was a larger unit than a mb

sorry to sound dumb but anyway, someone might be able to help
how do I resize a pic - in my computer
I can do it in photobucket

I am sure that there would be a thread someone about it as I am probably just behind the times with this stuff

i'll have a look at my picture program and see what I can do

Robbie, fordprefect has written a couple of good guides showing you how to do different things in Photoscape, looks like he's included image resizing.

Quote"Nullagine Watering Hole"
What, a gold mining town with only one pub!

I live in a Gold rush town that has a population of 2,200 and four pubs. A quick drive up Mayne Street shows many more buildings that were obviously pubs. And, in the "roaring days" there were (insert a number here -many, but never actually verified). Not much attention to licensing rules back then.

Worth Googling some of the above. And "Holterman collection" too! Get out a $10 paper note while you're at it.

this town is named poona  , it is on the coast near,
double island point , tin can bay , and rainbow beach ,
and only 8 km,s across to fraser island by boat .
I have a block of land at poona that I wish to sell , and my asking price has it at $ 97000.00 in the real estate office in poona .
I will come down to around $ 90000.00 for it , if any body is interested in this block as a home site or an investment idea .
this block is 1/4 acres or 1000 square metres . and has water views .
