1916_rev__mule_die_cud_at_inner_circle.JPG1916 Halfpenny UNC38 viewsSmall pimple like cud at inner circle of reverse above "N" of ONE. This indicates that this same reverse die was originally matched with the wrongly fitted Quarter Anna Indian obverse die that was responsible for the creation the 1916 Halfpenny Mule. An unknown small number of coins were minted with this combination of dies, but the reverse die was left in place after the offending obverse die was changed. It is thought that a mintage of about 30,000 coins ensued using this particular reverse die.Mar 15, 2014

1922_upright_9_common_date_width.JPG1922 Penny reverse30 viewsUpright 9 common width date, extremely scarce. The left edge of the foot on last 2 aligns with the centre of 15th dentil when counted from and including the dentil immediately to the right of the 1. Not well known but often wrongly described as the wide date variety simply because of the upright 9. Nearly all common width date coins display the obvious LEFT leaning 9. Only sighted 9 of these in 8 years of constant searching, mostly every day i.e. internet, shows, dealers etc. Cannot locate in high grade.Mar 15, 2014

1922_upright_9_common_date_width_obv_.JPG1922 Penny obverse29 viewsUpright 9 common width date as per description for reverse image, extremely scarce. Even allowing for this coins scarcity, the obverse rims are always clean, square and centred. Not to be confused with the also very scarce Upright 9 Narrow date or the scarce wide date varieties which has the left edge of the foot on the last 2 aligned with the left edge and right edge of the 15th dentil respectively. 1922_obv__muli_flat_rim.JPG1922 Penny Obverse.42 viewsExtremely scarce Upright 9 common width date coin as described for other obverse entry. This coin has multiple flats around circumference of rim, and could obviously be the result of some tinkering in the back shed. But, considering the scarcity of this coin, the question has to be asked if there were issues during the minting process that caused the cessation of the mint run, and is the rim flattening the result of a mint die, machinery design fault/ breakdown etc.
